This was brought into greater detail by Defunctland but the engineers who helped design Beastly Kingdom were let go by Disney. Universal swooped them up and they were the ones who helped design The Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure.

I love both dragons and unicorns and wish that future generations could have a park where they could interact with them. I do believe they could make a compelling park with mythical creatures, but the plans would need to address modern park design paradigms rather than those from generations ago. Great video as always.

Honestly, i'm not mad about this one. Pandora is absolutely breathtaking, the floating mountains are stunning and the mixed-use of real plants and sculpted plants throughout the land to bring to life the alien planet is really well done. The animatronic in Na'vi River Journey is extremely lifelike and the Flight of Passage is absolutely incredible, hands down my favorite attraction of all time. Definitely glad we have that over just another rollercoaster. And a land themed around a film who's theming centers around the importance of nature conservation and the downfalls of corporate greed is just as important now as when the film was released. Absolutely stunning land, all around.
That was really thorough! The Loch Ness monster restaurant was supposed to be in that area as well, it was going to have an animated Nessie figure in the lagoon
I really wish Beastly Kingdom could came to be. It would’ve added to the child-like wonder that I get whenever I go to Disney. I would love to see a dragon or unicorn “in real life.”
I would have preferred the original plan. And not just because I hate the whole avatar thing, stolen property or not. The original idea had flair and imagination. Disney tried to create Disney in a world of European parks in Europe. Well creating a European park in Disney would have showed understanding and learning from what they tried to out do. Plus Dragons and Unicorns. You can't beat that.
From what I heard they had to choose 2 lands out of 3 to build. The options were Dinoland USA, Africa or Beastly Kingdom. Out of the 3 I would much prefer Beastly kingdom over Dinoland USA. Open to alternative thoughts :)
I disagree. I think Dinosaur is an excellent attraction, especially after its 2016 refurbishment. I'd even go so far as to say that I prefer Dinosaur over Indy in Disneyland.
I absolutely love these episodes about Disney. My grandfather Edward Thomas was one of the original Imagineers that helped design Disneyland. His big project was The Pirates Of the Caribbean ride. My mother told me she met Walt Disney as a little kid. I am finally going to Disneyland here in a few months to see it in person. I have never been to Disney to see my grandfather's work due to the fact that i don't live in California anymore and i was pretty poor growing up so I never went to any amusement parks or vacation anywhere. Videos like these are special to me. Thanks dude!!!!

Honestly, never should've built Dinoland U.S.A. All they did was get some cheap flats and what I think are Pinfaris. (Maybe Zamperla. I dunno.) I'd rather have something on the lines of South America or an Indiana Jones land.
Primeval Whirl is a Reverchon. And yes, I agree with you. Dinoland is still 90's hokum and it's jarring against the rest of the park. Is the Indiana Jones redo rumor still kicking around? With this section becoming "South America" or "Amazonia" and essentially be a full clone of Lost River Delta @ Tokyo DisneySea? With Dinosaur converting into another IJ Adventure to advertise Indiana Jones 5 in 2020?? Because I would have that over Dinoland any day.

I agree with you, as Pandora is an increasingly fantastic, and the main attraction is mesmerizing! I went with my family this year and making twice the three hour line was worth every second. Yet, it would have been fun to see the canceled project come to life, as Disney always impresses the public with their attractions. I’ve watched many videos about Beastly Kingdom, and 2 minutes in I’m already learning new information. I really wish this would have come to fruition. I’ve only visited Animal Kingdom twice, even though I went every year to Disney World from ages 0-12 and then once when I was 14. If this had existed we probably would’ve split our MGM/HWS day with this instead of spending DAYS in MK and Epcot. I really vibe with this concept, and I’m very disappointed that the space is now filled by Avatar (not even the last air bender!)
Only went to Disneyworld once as a young kid 6 or 7 so its good to find out what has been going on since I have been there thank you Jake have a wonderful Thanksgiving
The best thing about your channel is that I learn about things I would never have heard. I knew Disney had lots of plans, but never knew they planned an entire section based on mythical beasts. Although never having attended, Pandora now doubt looks to be a proper successor to an envisioned project as it still offers that same feeling of mythicalism but in a more modern way without the heavily overdone themeing of dragons and medieval Europe

Another excellently executed and informative cancelled episode, well done! And I agree in that, the beastly kingdom concept sounded a bit out of place with the rest of the park at the time, so I'm glad they went with Pandora world instead eventually. But that dragon coaster did sound cool though!
IMO, I would have loved a land based off of the creatures in myths and legends from all over the world. Jake mentioned the proposed attractions seemed very focused on European mythology and I agree. But I think that it also leaves the possibility for expansion into other continents and their mythologies too. Perhaps use that as a way to connect beastly kingdom to the other areas of the park. Have a transitional area for Asian mythology leading into the Asia section of the park, etc. To me, Animal Kingdom should be about the animals from the past and present (both real and make believe) and I think beastly kingdom adhered to that idea.
Completely disagree with you. Beastly Kingdom would've been exponentially better than a land based on some third party, Dances With Wolves copycat, 3D glasses shilling movie from 2009.

the first time i went to disney i was 6. we went to camp minnie-mickey and we met mickey, minnie, donald, daisy and my favorite princess at the time, pocahontas. my mind was blown and i was so happy. i had no idea that i was at camp minnie-mickey and when i was watching this video i connected the dots that thats where i was, my heart broke. it kinda symbolizes that i grew up.
But, think of how cool it would be to go from this dark mountainous land with dragons to the pastel beauty of Pandora. Beastly Kingdom would have been an amazing entrance way.

Design is expensive. It's not recycling, it's more like getting the most out of an investment. Retheming is cheap, starting from scratch is not.

It was wild recognizing the Camp Minnie-Mickey from shreds of memories I have. My family went waaay back when I was tiny.
Only went to Disneyworld once as a young kid 6 or 7 so its good to find out what has been going on since I have been there thank you Jake have a wonderful Thanksgiving
The best thing about your channel is that I learn about things I would never have heard. I knew Disney had lots of plans, but never knew they planned an entire section based on mythical beasts. Although never having attended, Pandora now doubt looks to be a proper successor to an envisioned project as it still offers that same feeling of mythicalism but in a more modern way without the heavily overdone themeing of dragons and medieval Europe

Also Beastly Kingdom sounded pretty cool, but i went to Pandora earlier this year and it was incredible! So much fun. Flights of Passage was great!

It's amazing how I've been to this area several times and I don't remember any of this. Probably best for me, to save me from the letdown. Great video.
I have no idea how they got those islands in pandora to stand, it’s almost like they defy the laws of physics!
My wife and I say "what's up guys" everytime we see something that looks even remotely abandoned. Keep up the good work Jake.
Another excellently executed and informative cancelled episode, well done! And I agree in that, the beastly kingdom concept sounded a bit out of place with the rest of the park at the time, so I'm glad they went with Pandora world instead eventually. But that dragon coaster did sound cool though!
IMO, I would have loved a land based off of the creatures in myths and legends from all over the world. Jake mentioned the proposed attractions seemed very focused on European mythology and I agree. But I think that it also leaves the possibility for expansion into other continents and their mythologies too. Perhaps use that as a way to connect beastly kingdom to the other areas of the park. Have a transitional area for Asian mythology leading into the Asia section of the park, etc. To me, Animal Kingdom should be about the animals from the past and present (both real and make believe) and I think beastly kingdom adhered to that idea.

Beastly Kingdom would've been exponentially better than a land based on some third party, Dances With Wolves copycat, 3D glasses shilling movie from 2009.
Great content. I had no idea about this history. I love Pandora and happy that was added. But now equally excited to notice signs of the dragon next time I visit the park.
Like the girl at the end of the video, I would listen to audible in a theme park as well except it would be while waiting in line or sitting in one of the massage chairs in the Space Mountain gift shop.
I remember I went to animal kingdom right after they put up the construction walls and had the tower crane up

the first time i went to disney i was 6. we went to camp minnie-mickey and we met mickey, minnie, donald, daisy and my favorite princess at the time, pocahontas. my mind was blown and i was so happy. i had no idea that i was at camp minnie-mickey and when i was watching this video i connected the dots that thats where i was, my heart broke. it kinda symbolizes that i grew up.

As cool as beastly kingdom could’ve been, I really enjoy pandora, looks so cool and flight of passage is amazing, best ride in the park
But, think of how cool it would be to go from this dark mountainous land with dragons to the pastel beauty of Pandora. Beastly Kingdom would have been an amazing entrance way.
TableWrens I admit I would like to see beastly kingdom but it’s too late for that, universal did the idea first and that was successful for a time and times have changed for Disney
