I feel there's something weird about the video. It's obviously hyper-produced: the outfit, the editing, the color grading, the music, the way it's shot, the theme. The text feels scripted too. BUT, the whole shtick of the video is "Look how natural and fresh of a young parisian woman I am". Even the end when she eats 'messily' the pasta feels so choreographed: it's this bohemian romanticize/cliche France. To me it creates a weird dissonance between the amount of production with the 'spontaneous and mundane' pretense. In a way, this really talks about French aesthetic which is for me described with a simple example: spending 30 minutes to have the perfect 'messy bun', that looks stunning while looking like you just woke up and tied your hair without thinking about it. It's the idea of effortless chic, of wildish prettiness, that actually take a lot of efforts. The problem here is that the video doesn't look effortless at all, though it's trying very hard to look like it. I'll still try the recipe though.
I totally absolutely agree with you. For me the balcony scene was like the parody of her very self and even for her I felt it was uncomfortable. I almost heard the staff telling her: continue, one more bite, one more bite. She was sooooo desperately wanted to be erotic, but it turned out to be just ridiculous. This was everything, but not parisian et surtout pas "effortless".
Et aussi la musique. It adds this air of a time where people who aren’t French like to draw a lot of nostalgia from, wishing for a time (and here and entire lifestyle) that isn’t what it seems
I'm italian and also i never seen this dish before but maybe this pasta is for the tourist or isnt famous like the carbonara and the others types of pasta
In the south is comon to put the lemon shell on top of the pasta or in some pestos. Just with lemon it doesn't exist in the traditional cuisine. This doesn't mean you can't eat it in restaurants as a modern dish. I have tried it in a restaurant in Paris and is very nice. The creme fraiche on the other hand is totally french. An Italian chef would have probably used the water from the pasta to emulsify the sauce.
Came for the pasta recipe.... stayed for the stunning model...... but slightly triggered by the addition of creme fraiche.... because pasta al limone doesn't really need it. To make the pasta creamy, without any type of 'cream' (or 'creme'), you need only rely on the starchy pasta water, the grated cheese (please grate it with a micro plane for best results), some olive oil, and then briskly stirring & tossing everything in the same pan, while still hot, but taken off the flame. The pasta itself will release more starch as you stir. But if you want more "creaminess" to the final dish, simply add more pasta water while stirring. Don't use metal tongs to stir, or else you'll break the pasta. Use a large wooden spoon instead. Want an even more substantial version of this dish? Try adding a small touch of freshly-grated nutmeg.
