Yu-Gi-Oh! (Japanese: 遊☆戯☆王, Hepburn: Yū-Gi-Ō!, lit. 'Game King') is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kazuki Takahashi. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine between September 1996 and March 2004. The plot follows the story of a boy named Yugi Mutou, who solves the ancient Millennium Puzzle. Yugi awakens a gambling alter-ego or spirit within his body that solves his conflicts using various games.

Raphael beating Atem fair and square was possibly the most unpredictable and craziest moments in the entire series. I loved it.

@@JonFox1945 Why not? Narratively, it follows directly after the end of Battle City when Atem beats Yami Marik. It’s also realistic because Atem loses for once which is believable. Even your best duelist at your locals or regionals loses every now and then. 🤷🏻♀️
@@dF_fallz for me simply because you can remove the season and it all still makes perfect sense. Also the art style and the vibe just felt different from me, sort of like th ziedfrieg ark. Mainly because you can remove it and things still work the same, there aren't any call backs to this specific ark in the future or past seasons. It doesn't mean I hate it, joey red eyes armor is one of my favorite things to date

@@dF_fallz Exactly! Even as child, I knew something felt off. The magic/vibe just wasn't the same. It was well done in my opinion, kaiba dueling on a falling airplane was one of the most badass moments. I could just subconsciencly tell, it didn't fit the original narrative.

Its just head canon but im pretty sure it only counts if you win through a tournament event no? Im pretty sure a random duel not held in a tournament would not count too be king of games even if you won cause it was just a unregulated duel.
Maybe? I mean they don’t count world records set during training in the real world, so there’s a precedent for that at least. Still it’s set in a world where a children’s card game determines the fate of the world, so anything goes really.

Joey only wanted to become worthy of Red-Eyes before he could accept it back.
and since the tournament was over, there was no need for the ante rule
at some point in their duel, they could have just agreed to give him Red-Eyes after Joey had proven himself, which i'm sure he had
Also, if anyone had fairly beaten him, it would contradict with the plot of the Pharaoh having to lay down his "sword" (tho we could argue that waking the dragon is canon to the anime - which is kind of a different timeline to begin with. so the inconsistencies are pretty much real)
Plus it was never actually stated it that Joey won for all we know Atem gave him red eyes back after the duel or since the season 4-5 are filler he gave it back after they got back from Atem past

Yeah, no. Joey definitely didn't win that duel. Yugi is canonically a way better duelist, which joey acknowledges as the series goes on

Oh yeah, and kaiba. Remember how angry kaiba got hearing yugi list to Raphael? You think he'd still be so dismissive to joey if he beat yugi? And don't don't try to tell me kaiba didn't know, he has access to every duel fought on a duel disc, no way he's not reviewing Yugi's duels to figure out ways to beat him.
Way more likely is joey lost, yugi gave a big speach about joey getting better, and gave him the card.
Perhaps we'll count them as lineal Kings of Games, even if they didn't win the titles officially.

Yugi has never lost a duel, the only losses ever gotten was Rafael
There’s no way Joey ever won that duel because let’s face it. Yugi is a better duel list. He beat Joey and Ben and Jules Kingdom at battle city Yugi lost on purpose.
Yugi basically just gave Joey his red eyes black dragon back to him after their dual yugi one, but he didn’t want to hold on to it anymore so you give it back to him. That’s all besides Joey winning the duel he’s a great duelist but he’s not if he can’t if you can’t defeat a former champion kaiba he can’t earn the title king of games and plus Joey winning the title and losing it to mai then losing it to Rafael, then going back to yugi that’s literally a dumb fan theory story because nobody talks about their jewel after season three I would think Yugi one that dual and he decided to give Joey back his red eyes just like he he let Joey keep the prize money the prize Yuki won and decided to give it to Joey that makes sense plus defeating Joey and giving Joey something back, basically the same thing as their dual in jewels kingdom
