Butch Hancock is one of the best song writers from anywhere ever. Great performer too. Caught him live in The Breedon Bar & Border Cafe, Birmingham, England before it burned down a long time ago and then as one of The Flatlanders at Vicar Street, Dublin not so long ago. Would love to see him live in Texas if he would be so good as to send me on the fare!

to be righteous and fair , u want to get a free fare , from a guy who u pay to see , he's singin' and stringin' yet u think he should be bringin' u a trip cross the pond for free , well i'll tell ya mate don't hold your breath while u wait , but stateside we admire your balls, no ones wavin no magic wand to get u over the pond to go to texas and do the west texas waltz

Freaking awesome. You won't believe he needed a rhyming word for "waltz" and I lived next door and I had a Renault... OMG it rhymed. That was back in 71 or so

What happened to the verses about the date at the baseball game? Great song either way, but man how the crowd went wild back in the day when you sang about balls and strikes!

Had never heard the original, just the Joe Ely. This is nice but I prefer Joe's version.
