This is how you do an adaptation. Respect the audience love the source material, involve the creator and respect the source material. How is this so well done yet they mess up the Witcher so badly.
A fan cast isn’t enough… Henry Cavill absolutely loved The Witcher enough, but not the whole team. This series seems stacked with fans from the cast to the show-runners.
For real. They made a lot of changes instead of making it a carbon copy like Cowboy Bebop, but they didn't ignore some of the most important details and this was a move that put One Piece on top as a better live action adaptation.
Don't forget How horribly they messed up Avatar The Last Airbender and Dragon Ball evolution including a few other live anime adaptations like cowboy bebop recently lol
Disney can learn from this. THIS is how you make a live action adaptation. No slandering the original, no butchering of the original (you can make changes without butchering it), paying respects to the original and hire people who love the story and characters.
@@starsapphire2013 Ahsoka was done well but Disney still needs to learn because they're butchering the upcoming Snow White live action. I think we all know it's a shitshow and it hasn't even been released yet.
@@starsapphire2013You kidding me? Ahsoka sucks big time. Episodes upon episodes of NOTHING HAPPENING and just staring into NOTHING. And all that girl bossing has become so boring. Star Wars is dead, accept it. As long as Disney have the rights to it.
Congratulations to the cast and crew, they deserve all the credit. You've broken the curse, the greatest anime adaptation of all time. One piece is one of the most impossible to adapt to live action but it is now considered one of the greatest anime adaptation. This is what happens when you a put a cast and crew that loves and respect the source material with a supervision of the creator of the material, a great adapation indeed.
4 episodes in, and so far, I strongly disagree. It's not terrible. There are things about it that are great. Since most live action adaptations of manga and/or anime are so terrible, I guess that bar hasn't been set very high...but still...I feel this show has so much potential, but so far, it's nowhere near reaching that potential. Not gonna give an in-depth review here...but I'll quickly go over some of the problems. First is the acting. NOT the actors...the actING. They all feel like they'd be truly great under the right sort of direction, but they clearly don't have that yet. That will likely change as the show progresses...that's not unusual, and is the main reason I never judge a show based on it's first season. Second is the biggest one for me, and that's the fact that it's almost TOO MUCH like the source material. I've only seen the anime...I'm not familiar with the manga...so when I talk about the source material, keep that in mind. It's an over-the-top pirate fantasy with all sorts of very unrealistic stories and characters, which is great for a fun adventure anime meant for younger viewers (mostly. It does mature some as the story progresses), but for a live action show meant for viewers of all ages, I feel that basically making it a carbon copy of the anime was the wrong choice. I think that it would be significantly better if they'd taken the source material and used it as inspiration...not simply picked the best story arcs, then copied them as closely as they could. The same goes for the characters and overall production, bringing me to my third major criticism. The costumes look like cosplay (often bad cosplay). The sets look pretty good, but it's often very obvious that it's a set. It doesn't feel real. Many outdoor scenes (which make-up probably 85% of the production) were quite obviously filmed indoors. You can easily tell that. I'm not suggesting there's something wrong with filming those scenes indoors...only that they don't seem to have done much to make the sound and cinematography FEEL like those scenes were filmed outside. That would've been forgivable back in the 90's...but not so much today. As for the more unrealistic characters (like the fish men)...they do look A LOT like the original source material...but in this case, I don't think that's a good thing. They should've used the source material as inspiration, and created new looks for those characters that both embodied the original, and respected it, but also looked more realistic. The bad guys should be scarier...less "cartoon-ey". More like the monsters they're supposd to be. They did this with the seaking...and it looked great. They should do the same with all of the characters and production design. As for the story...it's again too much like the source material. No story is perfect, and One Piece is no exception. This is an opportunity to improve upon the original story. Add things to it...take some stuff out...change details here and there. Stay true to the original and respectful to the creator and especially the fans...but polish it up some. Give us something that is both familiar, AND new. It's too predictable as is. We already know everything that's happening, because it's a carbon copy of the original, just shortened up a bit. I realize that there's no way to please ALL of the fans...but at least give us something new and interesting. Keep all of the main plot points, but improve upon the details whenever possible. Maybe even change some of the conclusions to the more minor story arcs. I never get to wonder what's going to happen next in this show...at least so far...because I already know the story. Again...use the source material as inspiration. Stay true to it...respect it...but think of it more as a template for something new. As a fan of the anime, I don't want just a live action carbon copy of the anime. I want something new and exciting. So far, this show feels like a bunch of cosplayers/amateur film makers decided to film a live action role play of the anime. Sure, a lot of people may enjoy that...but only until the novelty of it runs-out...then they'll get bored. Tons of potential here...and the love of the original source material is very clear...but I was bored halfway through the first episode. i'll definitely finish the season, and give season 2 a chance, because I'm hoping it will get better...but if it continues doing what it's done so far, I can't imagine I'll be interested in watching more.
@@TimPetroneyou said you wouldn't go in depth but yet you write a whole book lol, just joking but I don't know what you mean to close to the source material, imo it was to far from the anime, naked helmeppo was never shown in the anime, Luffy had a whole different situation eating his fruit, Beckman yassop and lucky roo never fought like that in the anime, Luffy never got trapped in a glad cage of water, Zoro never killed mr 7 like that and it was very different from the anime so idk what you mean. And I am also 4 episodes in and I love it, they actors did a good job, the scenery was 10/10, the cgi was pretty damn good, the sound quality was good, and they did a great job, it was a 10/10 live action compared to almost any other live action anime ever released.
@@bendover7644 believe me, that was nowhere near “in-depth”. Long for a UA-cam comment, maybe, but not for a review of a new tv series. As for what I said…my opinion stands. They did change some minor details, but I’ve been binge watching the anime daily over the past few weeks…it’s fresh in my mind, and yeah, this show is nearly a carbon copy. And no…I’m sorry, but the acting isn’t “great”. The actors themselves are fine, like I said, but their performances are suffering from not so great direction. And the production value is mediocre at best by todays standards. It’s cool as a sort of novelty…but not something I can really take seriously. Not yet. It seems to me like you and a lot of others are caught up in the novelty of it….but that won’t last. Not unless they make some improvements. I’ll definitely give it a fair chance like I said…but so far I’m not impressed.
I haven't seen this kind of passion for a film crew since Lord of the Rings. They have absolutely won me over. I don't think it will ever surpass the anime, but I look forward to what they do with this. I just hope they never lose their roots.
I think that going into it, knowing that they could never meet or surpass the anime, worked in their favor. They're truly trying to make their own unique, but authentic rendition. If they went into it trying to be something they weren't, it wouldn't have felt so earnest and authentic.
Is it a perfect show? No. But the fact that I had a smile the entire first season speaks volumes. To see this world completely realised into live action is a small miracle. By all means, these drawings and the world Oda has created is *impossible* to create into live action, that's why animation works so well. That being said, this show does SUCH a good job translating it into this new medium. Every episode just screams love and attention. It's like a gift to all the fans. It's beautiful to see.
@@oriandthesleepytime Considering it's a first try, they did a great job! Can't wait to see what a Season 2 will look like with all the gathered experiences, and extra funds for sure too!
TBF it is difficult to ever create "perfect" but this as it's own nd with no comparison to the anime was very nice. I enjoyed the whole thing nd didn't really mind the differences. I can't wait for the nxt season
I won't deny that I thought Inaki was a weird choice to be Luffy..but after watching all 8 episodes I'm completely sold on Oda choice to cast him. He embodies Luffy personality from the anime. I felt the same emotions from the original anime to the series as well.
@@aximilian15 what makes Luffy to be luffy is the goofiness and the dumbness. I always laugh watching the anime but cringed watching Inaki portraying the character.
After watching the full episodes on Netflix, I gotta give lots of props and appreciate to the entire cast and crew for making the best live-action adaptation of a manga and anime series I’ve ever seen! Lots of respect! R.E.S.P.E.C.T., RESPECT 🫡👏🤩✨on the audience, the source material and even Oda-Sensei! I’m so proud that he was one of the executive producers of the show! No wonder this show is so damn good! Congratulations to everyone who worked so hard on creating the series to life in imperfectly beautiful and well-crafted form in live-action! 🙌😍💯 I’m looking forward to rewatching the entire season again!
watched a couple episodes with my mom who is not a fan of the series, but she wanted to keep watching and that is saying something. As a one piece fan I think they did an amazing job ! 👌💯
Can't wait for the season 2. Every character resemble to it's anime counterpart. Most especially the plot is really good especially the visual effects of every character's special ability.
R-E-S-P-E-C-T Thats for the whole team of this adaptation they did a really really great job hoping for season 2 or a lot a lot of seasons until the end
I can't thank Oda San and Netflix enough for making this series. The cast and crew that worked on this did a fantastic job bringing One Piece to life. The joy I felt watching each episode was, at times, overwhelming. Thank you all for your hard work 🙏 💜 ❤️ 💓
I like how they made Nami a slightly stronger fighter, especially her fighting with that pole at the start. It gives a nod to how one of oda's original designs for Nami was as an axe fighter. I dont know if this is intentional, but i likes it anyway
The way the show is handled is ridiculously immersive. It is not only a fantastic adaptation of a story that has been told over a few different mediums now, but also shifts my perception of the source material in a way that adds so much value to it. I hope I get to meet someone who worked on this one day to tell them thank you for bringing one of my favorite stories of all time to life.
I loved how they kept the most important scenes in the beginning of One Piece to give you enough information for each character even if you have never read or watched the series. They made it extremely digestable to new fans and older fans and really pay a lot of tribute to Oda Sensei's work. I'm genuinely blown away by how natural and realistic everything looks. They REALLY nailed the costumes and didn't make it look like cosplay and balanced this medium so well, I'm genuinely shocked. It really wasn't an easy task to do and the casting for ALL the characters were seriously amazing. I think Koby and Helmeppo don't get talked about enough, I loved their duo a lot!
This is how it's done. You guys deserve the title "Best anime live-action adaptation". You broke the curse and another record made for One Piece!!! Keep it up!
I am astonished by the love and craftsmanship that went into creating this adaptation. I just finished watching the whole season and loved every second of it. Thank you for your amazing work ⚓🏴☠️🍖🍊🚬🗡⚔️🔨🌶💥
My friends told me to watch One Peace years ago and I never did. this was my introduction to One Peace and I absolutely love it ! I'm starting the actual Manga now !
One Piece is very close to my heart, and it's one of my favorite anime. I'm thankful for all the cast and the people behind them, especially Oda Sensei, because they did a magnificent job in making the live action of One Piece a wonderful adaptation. As a 100% fan of One Piece, I am already pretty satisfied with the series. The cast is perfect, and they're amazing. However, I'm just a little disappointed that some of my favorite parts in the anime are not there, such as when Usopp talks to Kaya on the top of the tree or when the captain Usopp little crew welcomes Luffy, Nami, Zoro, and Sanji for the very first time. There are more parts I wish were included. I'm excited for the next season to come. Hehe even my brothers who don't watch the anime enjoyed the series after watching it with me last night and it made me really proud and happy. ☺️❤️
Agree. With that adaptation, Netflix has to cut or to shorten a lot of storyline, and perhaps to change a little bit of drama seen from the anime/manga
Thank you guys for this wonderful adaptation from the best manga ever!! Very well done! keep up a great work and lets head to the season 2 I absolutely pleased with all the cast, love the straw hat crew. Especially sanji and nami they've stolen my heart. .(again) can’t wait to see more of them soon ^^//💕
already watched all 8 episodes and i absolutely loved it!!! thank you SO much to oda-san & everyone who was involved in making this live action happen. all the love, passion & hard work that you poured into it is truly evident. so grateful! now i NEED season 2 asap lol
Still in AWE of how they managed to adapt the most "Impossible to adapt" manga series. They said it was impossible. The cast is a 10/10. I cried and laughed throughout. Thank you Oda, thank you Netflix, thank you Nakama!
I kept having GOOSEBUMPS throughout the whole series! I highly enjoyed it, THANK YOU Netflix, and big thanks to the cast and crew for making it happen!! I can’t wait to see more of this. ❤
I kind of did too, I'm not much of a goosebumper, but there were a few times throughout where in between episodes as I was loading up the next one I drummed me hands on me desk and had a big smile on me face, I'd say that's pretty much the equivalent, I was having lots of fun and super excited between episodes! Great show.
Loved this, it had flaws and there's room for improvement for sure, but I could feel the passion and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Here's hoping we get more!
What flaws have you observed in the entire season 1. Can you say it pleas because for me it's quite fine. It's an adaptation to a series you know. Sometimes they need to summarize a bit the longer story that we saw in it's Anime counterpart.
@@dayleashleynolasco5765 Literally everything has flaws, I love One Piece and I love the adaptation, but to say it's flawless is simply disingenuous. Some flaws at the top of my head would be: Pacing; some emotional moments didn't have quite enough time to fully be appreciated, an extra episode or two would have helped. This isn't necessary a direction fault, but I do feel like they could have cut from some places to add to the big moments like Nami's "Luffy Help Me". Axe Hand Morgan didn't particularly seem like he actually did anything wrong in the live action, for the most part he seemed like he was doing his job. Sanji joining the crew felt sort of out of the blue, without the encounter with Don Krieg it didn't really seem like he had much of a reason to follow Luffy. Some of the acting was a little bit rigid imo, but altogether it was really well done and this is me nitpicking. I adore Inaki, and Luffy is an exceptionally hard role to fill, but there were definitely moments where his dialogue just felt... not right, there was just something off about it. I have the utmost faith in him that he'll only get better from here, and I loved 90% of scenes with him in it; he's got the capacity to be the perfect Luffy. Syrup village, while an improvement from the manga/anime (imo) still had a lot of issues in particular with pacing; I believe this could have been cut down a lot but they wanted to keep it at 2 episodes, which hurt altogether. I also don't feel like Kuro's two crew members translated particularly well to Live Action, it felt like an example where they should have been less faithful and just let Kuro have normal crew members instead of 2 deranged lunatics that hiss and act like cats. This paragraph is pretty subjective, but I feel like the rest that I've said are pretty reasonable opinions to hold. These are just what I can think of straight off the bat, but I still loved the series. I would give it a solid 8/10 and I'm super excited for more, I believe that most of my issues can be resolved by simply giving the directors more episodes to work with.
You're all amazing! This adaptation made me feel the same magical feeling the anime gave me years ago when I watched it for the first time. Thank you for this wonderful show.
YOU DID IT!! I hope this show gets the success it deserves. My respect to the crew (I mean, the filming crew!) for this awesome job. The settings, the costumes, the acting, the attention to detail, everything feels like it was created to make us, the audience, the fans, happy. Thank you so much!!!
As a massive one piece fan. I take back what I said about the cast. They were incredible! Its never going to be as in depth as the anime but you respected the fans and thats what counts! Usopp was literally the anime character to the T.
You’ve truly done an exceptional job with the One Piece live action series. Witnessing a story I’ve cherished for over two decades come to life in such a remarkable way is nothing short of awe-inspiring. I feel privileged to be part of this journey and to witness it firsthand.
This live-action version of one-piece is highly acclaimed in Japan! I would like to express my appreciation to all the people involved in this work! and I hope Oda-sensei does not collapse from overwork.
truly enjoyed the show! thank you so much to everyone who was involved in making this live action happen. really felt the love that was put into it. ready for season 2!!!
Let's go!! Season 2 is COMING SOON!!! SO yeah here comes the biggest questions of all how much big will the scale be and who is gonna play Robin? And these things matters for the success and continuetion until Wano.
I love how they proved every hater wrong ive been a one piece fan for 5 years this series honors the source material well done everyone involved and well done Netflix . I love this series hope it gets renewed
Seeing smoker at the end means there will be another. Netflix knew how big this would be and knowing the passion and effort being put in they definitely signed at least 2 seasons, not to mention the numbers this show hit. One of the biggest shows ever on Netflix with overwhelmingly high ratings from every critic board. They'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they didn't renew for at least 2 more seasons, the fans are here for it, and we obviously loved it.
Mackenyu has mastered all the skills- acting, fighting, swords fighting, singing, dancing, playing instruments, wrestling, horse riding, archery, modeling.........He's also a gentleman...i am a big fan of this man👍👌😍😎
Only seen 4 episodes so far, but i love it. Honestly had some doubts, like the rest of the internet, when the first trailer dropped. It looked kinda goofy, especially Buggy, but he actually turned out to be very enjoyable.
I grew watching One Piece..i watched it since the beginning I still have my Drawings of Straw hat Sanji and Zoro when I'm still 10 I think..now I'm turning 30 this yr. and it made my childhood complete..love them so much
Freaking loved this show, every single bit of it. Down from the amazing writing, props, costumes, CGI, story and the moral value in it. Now THIS is an adaptation. Can't wait for S2!!
Massive congratulations to the entire cast and crew behind this!!!! It truly was a love letter to the source material. You guys did it justice and I can't wait for the next season! I say as far as live actions go, this is a HUGE SUCCESS!
Easily the best adaptation series of all time so far! Great work from all the crew and casts! Perfect writing, casting, everything! Cannot wait for season 2 announcement
Thank you so much again for doing such an amazing job. To everyone who worked to make this a success I thank you and appreciate you. I loved it so much. I hope to spread this story to many people who won’t watch it because it’s animated or “too long”. You have given us an opportunity to introduce this story to them and hopefully get them to see why we adore and cherish this story so much
I watched 10 minutes and thought it would be bad. Then I came back to it and legit can’t stop binge watching. It’s seriously good. I’m so used to adaptation’s being bad that this one caught me off guard.
Watched the original one piece completely. They did about as good as a job as they could have. Everyone that worked on this deserves praise. Also loved how they added the garp storyline in, it made a lot of sense and added onto what the manga already gave us. Can't wait for season 2.
As one of the old fans of one piece, I had so many doubts and criticism when the rumors of live adaptation will happen, coz live adaptation of animes didn't always work well in the past, and thought this will be the biggest disappoinment in the making. BUT Thank you very much! You broke the curse, and made a part of our childhood come to reality. It's so amazing, that people can see the love, time, and effort to make this series. And it paid off. You give respect to the source material and creator, and the people will respect you in return. 😊 Now people are gearing up for more seasons! 🤗 Congratulations on a Job well done !
I got teary watching this. The dedication of the crews, the love of the series and the ultimate respect to Oda-sensei’s masterpiece are what this series the best live action ever made. Respect
The hard work and passion they put on these is so wonderful and I appreciate it. I watched the first episode and it's so dang good. Great job everyone🙌
I clicked on the one piece because it was intrigued and needed something to watch and ended up binging the whole season in 1 day. It was abserloutely brilliant, all the colours, the outfits. Incredible!!
I've finished the last episode..... and I am feeling like my 20years younger myself.... I'm just crying... the whole season was one of the best live action I have seen... and I hope there will be more.... please.... it was soooooooooooooo goooooooooooood ... aaaaahhhhhhh.... I... WANT.... MORE!....
My wife and I binged this the other day and were so pleasantly surprised. They nailed it. Just a great show. Netflix has had a lot of stinkers, but it's really awesome to see them push something that holds true to the anime/manga.
I mean, their effort paid off. My original plan was to spend my 4 day weekend watching the show. Not only did I finish all 8 episodes before the sun even set, I watched the first episode 3 times. (Once by myself, with my younger sister, and then with my parents.) I extremely enjoyed it. Now, I'm planning to watch it in the Japanese and Spanish dub.
I hope next season gets a bigger budget and more episodes, this series is amazing. This could be our next stargate, star trek, X-files, 10 season long running series.
They did a great job I loved the live action and watched all of it already. I hope if they continue this, they’ll continue to seek help from Oda. Without Oda, none of this would be possible.
I really hope this gets further seasons! I'd be interested to see how far they can take it (especially since the manga/anime hasnt ended yet). Season 2 will surely be Alabasta so I can't wait to see how they do it!
An absolutely incredible job done by literally every person and department. A masterclass on how to do an adaptation, as well as just a masterclass on incredible showmaking in general. Really amazing job

I have completed watching the full series this morning. 1st of all i am soo sooo much grateful to Netflix. & really love for these guys because they all really very very much fit in their characters. As a diehard one piece fan I'm really hoping that you will bring all of the seasons and stories to live action. Lastly thank you very much for making the live action & know that you will always have my support no matter what! ( I really cried so hard when Luffy told Nami that of course he would help her. MY GOD thank you so much seriously, GOSH I'm tearing up right now. Really really thank you!!!)
Damn, i just wish the boats that they made should be a theme park by now... i know they shot it somewhere in south america...but it would be a waste if they just removed it...if they can do it as a theme park...they could attract tourists...finished all episodes and left me hanging...now this is how you do a proper adaptation...
I never watched a single episodes of One Piece. Watched one episode on Netflix and I was hooked. Here we go... Starting One Piece Anime... I'll update you in a few years when i'm done haha

This series is incredible! Being a fan of one piece aside, this is exactly the sort of fun, fantasy action show that media has been missing and needs so badly, and youve knocked it out of the park. I cant wait for S2!
One of the very few adaptations that actually DOESN'T disappoint - and that, in and of itself, is a true success. You guys did a wonderful job. Just priceless to see this. I actually shed some tears to see the Going Merry sail out for the first time with the hints of the original music from the anime mixed in... what an emotional experience that just drew out the tears! You can see the love they give to the true fans by the little things they include and I love and appreciate them all for this. And can we just take a minute to appreciate how AMAZING the villains look and how true to the anime???? Just an outstanding job well done and I hope and pray this will go on for many, many seasons to come.

Agreed with you 💯
I haven't seen this kind of passion for a film crew since Lord of the Rings.
They have absolutely won me over. I don't think it will ever surpass the anime, but I look forward to what they do with this. I just hope they never lose their roots.
Couldn't agree more. Both on Lord of the Rings and this One Piece live adaptation :)
Agree Both LOTR and OP are my fav as well
I think that going into it, knowing that they could never meet or surpass the anime, worked in their favor. They're truly trying to make their own unique, but authentic rendition. If they went into it trying to be something they weren't, it wouldn't have felt so earnest and authentic.
absolutely agree
Is it a perfect show? No. But the fact that I had a smile the entire first season speaks volumes. To see this world completely realised into live action is a small miracle. By all means, these drawings and the world Oda has created is *impossible* to create into live action, that's why animation works so well. That being said, this show does SUCH a good job translating it into this new medium. Every episode just screams love and attention. It's like a gift to all the fans. It's beautiful to see.
Well said, my friend.
What would be considered "perfect"?

I won't deny that I thought Inaki was a weird choice to be Luffy..but after watching all 8 episodes I'm completely sold on Oda choice to cast him. He embodies Luffy personality from the anime. I felt the same emotions from the original anime to the series as well.
He is a more realistic version of Luffy, so he is not as goofy or dumb, but he definitely portrays Luffy's heart.

This is how live action should be. Huge respect to the production team!
I can't thank Oda San and Netflix enough for making this series. The cast and crew that worked on this did a fantastic job bringing One Piece to life. The joy I felt watching each episode was, at times, overwhelming. Thank you all for your hard work 🙏 💜 ❤️ 💓
Never watched one piece anime but this live action has forced me to start the anime version. That's how good it is!!
I like how they made Nami a slightly stronger fighter, especially her fighting with that pole at the start. It gives a nod to how one of oda's original designs for Nami was as an axe fighter. I dont know if this is intentional, but i likes it anyway
Apparently the actress was already a karate black belt, she probably got more action scenes because they knew she could do it.
What do you expect? If u want everything in anime the episode would be 44 anime episodes
Thank you guys for this wonderful adaptation from the best manga ever!!
Very well done! keep up a great work and lets head to the season 2

That's to be expected in a season 1. Hope season 2 will blow our expectations again
Some flaws at the top of my head would be:
Pacing; some emotional moments didn't have quite enough time to fully be appreciated, an extra episode or two would have helped.
I really like the interactions between Garp and koby early on wish we saw more of it in the manga
We got some of it through cover stories over time but I agree this was the best we have seen besides recent chapters.
Same bro
We have seen the cover story adapted from manga and more recently but yes nothing is enough in op tbh we always crave more
For Real They even did the Impossible They made Garp Better in Live Action than the Manga/Anime which Blows my mind

As a massive one piece fan. I take back what I said about the cast. They were incredible! Its never going to be as in depth as the anime but you respected the fans and thats what counts! Usopp was literally the anime character to the T.
