The most ironic thing is, that Nami asking for help made her a stronger female character than any other female boss character Hollywood has manufactured in the last 5 years or so.

HELL YEAH!! Nami is an actual strong female character, not the annoying shit Hollywood have been feeding us in the last few years. She's asking for help not because she's a woman because EVERYONE needs help sometimes. Both man, and women. Even Luffy can't face the Grand Line alone. Everyone can relate with her.

That’s a great question Derik. If they don’t we can be sure that Eiichiro Oda will keep them on track to remain faithful to the series source material. What I’m wondering is Netflix will now understand that remaining true to the canon they adapt for any show will lead to success. Instead of butchering it. Thank you for that excellent question. My best to you for an amazing week!! 😊

They should. Oda having the final say on nearly everything is the only reason this series did so well. IIRC he also stated that if this does the series a disserve(like start adding plots that don't exist & going the typical woke route) he'll pull the licensing rights.

They can abandon Oda during season 4 or 5 thinking they don't need Oda having already multiple success before. Remember what happen with Game of thrones? Martin even said they never ask him after season 4 and straight build the story themselves from season 5.

The reason why Sanji just uses his legs to fight and NOT his hands is because he wants to protect his hands from getting damage as they are crucial for cooking. Its one of the best components to his character. Also, if you think his backstory in the live action was heartbreaking, his “other” backstory (of before he met Zeff) is even more heartbreaking. It would take so many seasons to get to that part of his backstory tho.

One of the most noticeable things is how distinct of each character is in one piece. They have their own voice and you can describe them with a few words and people will know exactly who you were talking about.
This is the opposite of Ahsoka where everybody has a cardboard cut out with the exact same voice. You cannot describe the characters because even the writer doesn’t know who they are. The rich variety available in the pirate world is just one of the many things that the show gets perfectly right.
Tricking villains that feel like genuine threats. Hero is that all have different skills and assets and deficiencies. Fantastic dialogue that does not insult the viewers intelligence. All of this is woven together into a rich tapestry becomes and then credible viewer experience.
There are three moments in this first season that brought me near to tears that I felt more than every single Disney thing combined in the last decade. In a 30 scene, more was accomplished than everything Disney has done.
When Sanji was on the island. When he says goodbye to his dad. And when Nami asks for help. This is how you tell a story. It’s absolutely phenomenal. I don’t particularly care for Pirates or anime. And I was so sure this was going to be another bomb. And yet I was all in on the show in the first 20 minutes of the first episode.

    • @GeorgeTheGiantSlayer
      @GeorgeTheGiantSlayer  Рік тому +15

Couldn’t agree more Fiona. That’s the perfect word you used, “distinct.” Each character in One Piece has a distinct character and a unique voice all their own. Not one of them is boring and monochrome. Which is exactly what I felt when watching the first three episodes of Ahsoka. They all felt the same. Just blah. Thank you for sharing your poignant insight into the series. You are spot on! Hope you have a phenomenal week!! 😊

Cannot wait to see how they compare the manga vs for the anime and live action show. Either way, the more One Piece the better! I believe it was the 1981 film _Das Boot,_ which I saw in German with English subtitles. It's a long movie, and I realized at some point that I'd stopped looking at the subtitles even though I knew about two words in German. I was also ashamed after viewing it, realizing I had been pulling for WW2 Germans...

as someone who is caught up with the anime, i am just amazed how good the live action adaptation turned out. it is incredibly faithful to the source material while taking the creative liberties needed to adapt it to live action.
I was very worried and skeptical before the premiere. but the end product, while not perfect, is pretty damn good and a solid 7 or 8/10 for me. i think knowing the source material i know some of the changes that didn't work out so well and it hurt it for me. not knowing going in its perfectly serviceable and will be impacted just the same. just know that the scene at the end of episode 7 hits a lot harder in the anime/manga due to some details being different they had to speed through. still a great scene though.
the highest praise i can give the show is that it has introduced so many people to the story and has gotten some of my friends who were hesitant to get into a 1000+ chapter/episode story to give it a try. that alone is an accomplishment the team should be very proud of.

The crazy world of One Piece turns us adults back into children, thirsty for adventure and staring into the horizon with sparkling eyes. This world takes your breath away and only when the adventure comes to an end and you exhale do you realize that you can no longer live without its characters. We become crew members without noticing. We share sorrow and joy. And we don't want the adventure to end.
One Piece captivates hearts and heals souls. It's incredibly important to so many people, it's very important to me, and I'm extremely happy to see new people falling in love with it as well. Thank you again and see you somewhere on the Grand Line 😉🌊👒

There's really nothing wrong with taking enjoyment as an adult in a silly anime style show. One Piece has so much depth that I believe it knocks the socks off of most Hollywood "realistic" films and tv series. Within the slapstick sillness there is a horror and tragedy that is found, but that doesnt weigh down the characters or the story and I think that is a strength in story telling.

In the anime, Zeff cut off his leg since it was caught by a chain while he was diving to save Sanji who was unconscious and drowning in the stormy seas. Zeff had to cut off his leg to break free from his restraints. The same happened where Zeff gave all of the food to Sanji but didnt use one of his limbs to keep himself alive, he was just somehow able to stay alive without food.

I was expecting this to be trash when I first heard they were doing it. I don’t know One Piece beyond seeing the art and knowing there were crazy characters with crazier powers. A rubber boy with stretch limbs? How would that ever work in live action if they can’t make a half decent DBZ show? But then the reviews arrived and convinced me to try and watch it. So glad I did, it’s amazing. And now Im on the edge of my seat waiting for season two. Good on Oda for retaining full control of his baby.

He is always had full control of his works (His manga is his baby) even his publisher Shonen Jump treat him like a living Legend & need to be protected at all cost. His publisher always need his permission anything they will do to One Piece. If Oda doesn't accept it proposal, they legally cannot do it

6:15, the same line Mihawk said about Luffy's terrifying power, the power to make allies from enemies.

Everyone, this season is just the prolouge. Everything only gets crazier and wilder from here.

Spot on! I just realized that a couple of weeks ago as I started watching the anime. Which is brilliant on an entirely different level. Absolutely love it! I’m up to episode 151. Thank you kazemizu for sharing your thoughts. Cheers!! 😊

I knew nothing of this series prior to watching it last weekend. Simply, magnificent... maybe the writers on strike could have taken time out of their days to watch this and we can see improvement in their art...

I am of the generation that grew up with One Piece and yeah, it’s a really good series. I’m a fan of certain anime and it’s been really nice to see people who have never ever watched any anime like the live action adaptation.
You gotta have a little fun in your life! It’s got heart, it’s got fun.

Oh WOW!! That’s good news!! I’m still not subscribing for 1 thing… and let’s HOPE they don’t stuff it up!! I’m not holding my breath!! Thanks George!! When Stranger Things 5 is out I’ll check it out!! Love from Oz!! 💕🇦🇺👏

Completely understand Ruth. I didn’t subscribe either. Netflix has done too many bad things. I always use the free promotional they offer for a week or weekend. Many thanks my friend for sharing your thoughts. On the plus side, I think the rest of the seasons will be the same high quality. Because the creator of the series Eiichiro Oda has complete creative control over the entire production. Wishing you a wonderful week!! 😀🌟 Much Love from Texas!! 😊

I think they will Martin. Not because Netflix wants to but because they have no choice. In the creator Eiichiro Oda’s contract he maintains complete control over the show. So, we should be getting the same quality for One Piece season to season. Thanks for sharing how much you loved it! Cheers!! 😊

Also Oda is a massive name. One Piece is bigger than even Harry Potter or even freaking Pokemon. He can and will have the pull to make the live action season the best he wants it to be.

Some people think it was a wacky but I think it was almost a perfect way to adapt an anime for live action which I didn’t think was possible.

I'll be comparing this to scenes from the anime all the way through. Some might not be exact, but if the heart of One Piece is there, I can handle a few deviations.

Idiotic. Most scenes are totally different. And that is main reason it worked within the budget and human capabilities (especially that strange well or whatever it is called - when something looking too realistic is more horrible that something cartoonish).
