    My wife and I were just there for two weeks at the first of January. I would encourage people to go. We had a great time and were warmly received everywhere we went.
    We donated to the community support center after a trip to costco and also visited the memorial fence. We were respecrful and grateful. Thank you for answering my questions in the comments a few months ago. I took your advice and I am glad I did. You where a big help. We stayed at the Outrigger Kaanapali Beach Resort and I thought I might bump into you but I didn't.
    Mahalo for all you do and Aloha Big Steve.

    Aloha Steve, great video and glad to see Patricia and yourself out enjoying a great meal. You really brought me back, my wife and I had lunch there on our anniversary during our first trip to Maui almost 4 years to the day(02-11). This year we will be back again with our girls and I’ll definitely have some bbq in tow we can enjoy together, 🤙. Really sad to see the remains of the pioneer inn and wharf. Be well.

    Mahalo for posting a new vlog on what’s going on in Lahaina. I barely hear anything on the news, so happy that you took the time to make this informative vlog. I know it must be so difficult to go back to the area to get your pictures and videos for your vlog. I am happy Steve that you and Patricia are trying to get get through this difficult time. Nice to see that your both out and trying to make the best of things. I could so go for a Monkey Pod Mai Tai. Had one when I visited Maui last May. I Truly enjoy watching your Maui content. Would love to see what the beach erosion looks like in Kehei. They briefly showed it on the news here on the mainland. Take Care and just know the majority of us are hoping things get better soon for all of you who suffered this great loss of your beautiful town.

      Aloha Patti and Thank You Very Much! So appreciate you and your wonderful thoughts. I may still do one more inside the Burn Zone, just to show how it looks. We're moving forward now, and after 6 months in the Outrigger we're hopeful for a new place to live on Maui. It may be on the other side of the island. Yes, nothing better than a Mai Tai and I so wish you were here to enjoy with us. We'd toast to love and life for both of our families. We'll keep posting videos and hope you have a wonderful 2024 and can come back to Maui soon. Stay safe and sane a bit and we send very sincere thanks to you, Patti.

    Hi Steve, what happens next? When all the debris is cleared - what are the plans to rebuild Lahaina? How do you get rehoused?

    • @MauiTravelVideos
      @MauiTravelVideos  7 місяців тому

      Aloha Steve and Many Thanks. That's the next and largest question. Once the debris is removed, then the "challenges" really begin and there is no easy answer nor any commonality among the many different people that lost houses and businesses. Example: Take any 5 lots that had a house. One will be owned by a local, one is owned by a Canadian corporation, one is owned by a NY Investment firm, one is so-owned by 5 partners, and one is owned by a California LLC. Each has their own thoughts, wants and desires. It will be a mess. Truly. At this very moment, over 50% are NOT even agreeing to have their debris removed. Unbelievable. OK. You get the picture. Time will tell. Take care and come to Maui soon.

    I don't know, but I have a feeling the cleaning is going to take forever.. this is crazy

    • @MauiTravelVideos
      @MauiTravelVideos  7 місяців тому

      Aloha and Thank You Very Much. You are so very right. I just heard that in the Puumanu area, over half of the home owners are refusing to have their lots cleaned. What? I can't quite understand that. Why? What are they thinking? It will take a long time and then the real "fun" and challenges begin, as each home owner has different thoughts and goals and desires. Some lots are owned by Canadian corporations. Some by New York investment firms. Only a few by locals. Some have California partnership LLC ownership. There will be massive disagreements and time delays before anything is even started. Most "projections" are out there 7 to 10 years, before you'll see much in Lahaina Town. Hope you still come to Maui and Best Wishes to you and your family for 2024.

    I'm so very happy to see you and Patricia back in a new video!! Yay!! Have been missing you two and your always interesting videos. Even though it hurts my heart to see Lahaina Shores in this video I have a tremendous gratitude for the weeks my husband and I were able to enjoy our stay there in 2022. I cannot adequately write of my sorrow for you and all of the Maui islanders whose lives have been divided, more or less, into Life Before the Fire and Life After The Fire. Keep your positive and encouraging attitude, Steve, please. So many of your readers are in your corner and pulling for you and I am among them. Stay safe!

      Aloha JoAnne and it's always so nice to see you here. Patricia comments about your comments and we thank you for your support, kindness and love. We're starting to show some "rebound" a bit, but it will take a long time. Front Street is gone and will never be the same. Housing is still tough, but with each passing week people are making "Life Changing" decisions. The Pandemic was "Life Altering" but this fire has changed the lives of us and many others. Yes, you're right, as we already will hear something and ask: "Was that before the fire or after the fire?" It will be a "point in time" that will be used by many generations. Best To You, JoAnne, and so very thankful to have you here. We love to see your comments and wish you the best always.

    You've stated the Council approved tens of millions for a landfill. But a permanent disposal site has not yet been selected. And as far as I know, FEMA is funding the temporary disposal site at Olowalu. So I would like to know what action the Council took that you are referring to. Please be as specific as possible in terms of date, or maybe a Bill number. I'm a Maui resident and lived in Lahaina myself for ten years. If the Council has already appropriated the money, it might mean the public has no more chance for input once a permanent disposal site is decided upon. Thank you.

      www.civilbeat.org/2024/01/maui-council-oks-olowalu-as-dump-site-for-lahaina-wildfire-waste/ & mauinow.com/2024/02/-1/maui-county-officials-unveil-three-potential-permanent-lahaina-debris-disposal-sites/
      The entire project is estimated to cost $59-$69 Million. FEMA is, largely, funding the project with $40M, but there will be significant costs to the county of Maui, like off-duty police and a long list of costs. EX. I lost three (3) Security Officers to the private company that won the Maui county bid to supply security services at the checkpoints. I've seen their paychecks of $55.00, as they were also there as members of the National Guard. They left our resort employment to go work for an independent contractor that has no ties to FEMA. There are many "loose ends" that are out there. Many. I did not mean to slight or demean anyone. I lost everything at the apt building behind Fleetwood's.

    Aloha from a 45 years Maui resident, combat vet, Maui massacre survivor. THESE IS ZERO " CLEAN UP " going on, there moving the highly toxic ash a few miles away to the worst part on this planet to move it, Olowalu. its being dumped ontop of our natural water table, in between to streams/ rivers, on top of a cinder cone ( loose dirt ). Its currently flowing into the ocean right into Mauiss/ Hawaiis Mother reef, and one of the most sacred lands to the Hawaiian nation.Not 1 single building permit has been or will be issued to the homeowners, the police chief has gone AWOL, our govenor was the very first in USA history to declare/ proclomation a natural disaster before the disaster even happened. the land is so toxic they are taking 6 feet of soil away, this is because its evidence, the people doing it are eastern european, the CIA and DHS are still here as well as Blackrocks private / armed police force, the mayor still refuses to say where he was, but all that were supposed to be in charge were off island, FEMA was here days beforehand, they made illegal at one point to even take a photo of lahaina. yes is true that no rich elites houses burned, and yes, the color blue didnt burn either....not all, about 95 % didnt, trees didnt, wood didnt, organic matter didnt....but cars melted in moments, forklifts turned to ash. Fema and the red cross did not respond for 6 days as the drank at the hotel bar,. the turned off the water so we couldnt fight the fire, the didnt sound the alarm system because " we would be confused and run into the fire ", when asked if he regretted not turning on the alarm, possibly saving so many and the town, he said no. we now know whom did this, with what, and why. the evidence is overwhelming. , i cant speak for all but we believe about 2000 dead children , 1000 adults, many related but were killed in seperate areas. 90 % of these being land owners. even if you dont believe what really happened, just the act of shutting off the water, and not sounding the alarm makes this a murder case, the ask dump will ruin Maui in a very short time. we also have a lukemia " outbreak " ? about 20 cases now, common factor, all were working in the ash. The Plans for the Smart Island that is to be built are showing up . and its only getting worse by the moment , many have already lost their property to the banks, suicide is soaring, no jobs, 12, 000 without a house and only promises to build new ones. this is a small portion of whats really happening. i dont know what the man in the video was talking about because nothing to help any human is happening. did you know the police physically forced us / roadblock us back into the oncoming blaze. on purpose. these are all facts and can be verified yourselves. .and its far from over....Black rock is now the largest land owner here, the day before the navy and airforce held joint wargames just off the coast..it as a directed energy weapons wargame , and of course, the Rand Coorporation has the worlds largest directed energy weapons platform right here on maui, on top of Haleakala. when the chinese found this out their ambassador said maui is the # 1 place they will hit first in war was to ever break out. theres abook out now called, Burn Back Better, it explains all of this and much more about what really happened. so if you believe engines blocks can melt but trees dont. well. the govenor made emergency proclomation/ laws before the disaster even happened. as i said, these are all facts and can be verified by yourselves...and if you see our police chief , keeep him, because hes not welcome here. oh when fema finally did come out of the $ 500 a night hotels, they took all of the donations by force and threw it in the dump. the guy in this video is not very well informed. God Bless us all.

      The gentleman in the video is a Displaced Resident, who has been in the Burn Zone over 20 times. He lost everything at Crossroads Apts. just behind Fleetwood's. He and his wife fought the fire until being surrounded, and his next door neighbor died. They barely escaped by running through Lahaina Town toward Pu'umana . They are now housed 6 months at Outrigger Ka'anapali Beach Resort where the gentleman is the Security Officer and Manager on Duty (MOD) from 7pm to 7am every single day. He has dealt extensively with homeless and residents for 6 months, working each day with Sr. Manager at FEMA and the American Red Cross. Daily. With over 3,500 still displaced residents, many are working hard to accomodate them. Money has flowed - too much fraud by locals coming from other areas of Maui to take money they don't belong. The above words are not supported nor endorsed, but are the words of the very, very well-informed but fact-based gentleman in the video. Facts Matter. Aloha.

      Aloha and Thank You Jay. Yes, it is really sad. But after 6 months we're starting to "rebound" a little bit and get our legs back underneath us, and take steps forward. Come to Maui when you can and Best Aloha Wishes.
