Our Thai Wedding - Khan Mak - Bangkok, Thailand - House on Sathorn Road, W Hotel

18 months of planning and 7,439 miles of traveling brought us here. The morning of Thursday March 19th, 2020, during a global pandemic, Amanda Cayson, myself and dozens of our friends and family gathered at The House on Sathorn (W Bangkok) in Bangkok, Thailand for our Khan Mak Engagement Ceremony.
With everyone dressed in traditional Thai clothing, the ceremony starts with the groom and all of his guests gathering in front of the house. Exactly at 8:09, the band starts drumming, and the the groom takes the first steps of his parade, walking toward the back of the house and Amanda's waiting family. The parade is stopped by 4 gates and challenges to prove his love for the bride:
1) Jordan Lim (Maid of Honor)
2) Casey Pichette & Kristin Liebman - 10 pushups + 9 situps = 19
3) Steve Lee & Mel Bailey - Singing " *NSYNC "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You"
4) Tanya & Julie - Thizzle Dance + Rap
After proving his love, the parade concludes with the grooms family presenting 10 trays of gifts (dowry) for the bride's family.
Both families gather for "the negotiation" where both sets of parents agree on terms of the engagement and send the groom off to retrieve the bride (She was hidden away in another tower, watching the parade from afar). Once they return, the dowery and engagement is blessed by the the parents and grandparents.
Rings are then exchanged by the bride and groom, officially confirming their engagement.
Next is the water pouring ceremony. Each guest will retrieve water blessed by a monk, and privately give a blessing to the bride and groom while pouring the water across their hands, above a bouquet of lotus flowers.
The ceremony ends with food, photos and lots of love!
