- After the Second Great Awakening, America was in a unique period of transition as the frontier expanded further west. Christians faced societal shifts that left them with the choice to stand firm on their convictions or to change with the times. In this message, Stephen Nichols explains six factors that contributed to the rise of liberalism in American Christianity.

This was a great history lesson! Thank you. 😊
God bless brother Nichols, may God be merciful to you all, shine the light of His countenance on you and bless you
I really appreciate this teaching, and the ministry as a whole, thank you.
A sermon that would make Dr. Sproul smile.
Good job Dr. Nichols!
"Oh, how I love Jesus ❤️. Oh, how I love Jesus. Because He first loved me..." classic Christian music hymn...
Gospel Truth teaching. We need teaching to understand The Holy Scripture. Stephen Nichols is a fellow of the Ligonier Ministries founded by Preacher Teacher the late R.C. Sproul. The rise of liberalism in America which brings us to God’s Great Awakening in America and the world. Amen. “Turn hell upside down”. Colorful baseball player turned Preacher, Billy Sunday. History the products of society not of God. Truly a Biblical Scholar Stephen Nichols. Amen
An excellent presentation of this topic! Thank you, Dr. Nichols!
Excellent! thank you for further great learning from Ligonier
Excellent. I need to incorporate these in our homeschooling.
Good idea. 🙂
Well done Dr. Nichols! I believe it was Augustine who said, "If you believe what you like in the gospels, and reject what you don’t like, it's not the gospel you believe, but yourself.” Such is the plight of contemporary “Christian” liberalism.
NEVER EVER GIVE UP ON OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST,………WHY?,………BECAUSE HE NEVER GAVE UP ON US,………. AMEN
Your comment reminds me of the Winston Churchill speech • "...never, never, never, never give up."
Funny how the Lord works, I will admit I was struggling today trying to make sense in a human train of thought. And I was questioning my salvation.
Kevin, thankyou for the reminder
Thanks for sharing. Great biblical teaching by Dr. Stephen Nichols. 😊
And you Rhonda, remind me of 2 things. What are they you could ask? "Help Me Rhonda" by the Beach Boys. And 2 • A.A. meeting group comments to one another • " Thanks for sharing."

Wow. So i cant listen or understand Gods word unless im trained in hebrew abs latin and went to college? Oh no theres no hope for me to understand the bible. Oh wait!!!!!! I have the Holy Spirit
Yeah I also think theological liberalism basically gutted American Christianity for the worse, but this conversation about it is incredibly disresepctful to the opponent, and therefore strawmans the issue massively.
It doesn't remotely try to make liberalism a believable or inevitable move in good faith for the person/academic working at that time.
Thats very important to diagnosing the problem. You cant vanquish this enemy unless you understand how it operates.
The liberal lives in a fundamentally disenchanted *world*. To think otherwise for them is to have a mental disability, from their perspective.
Its a thickly reinforced worldview, and you cant just throw words like "Trinity" and "Bible" without their entire psyche throwing up alarm signals.
This is effectively a call to reatreatism. "Enemy dumb and bad".
That's not gonna counter the issue effectively.
