I definitely learnt a lot from this! I currently have JL audio speakers on my doors and trunk. I am building a full JL audio system. Always loved JL audio since I was a kid growing up! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks you JL for these awesome videos. I just had a new VXi700/5 installed as well as high end speakers and a JL Subwoofer (Professionally installed by retailer), and watching these videos gives me an appreciation of car audio system setup, as well as becoming more familiar with my system.
Sorry to be so offtopic but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Ernest Kamdyn I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
I shore wish I had watched this before setting up my RD900/5 amplifier. Only running the sub channel at the moment which is why I was scratching my head why I had to run a remote turn on wire when I wanted to use DC Offset but was unable to, now it makes sense, only works on channel 1 which I’m not currently using. Lots of good information!
I have to vouch to the quality of JLAudio, I purchased a HD 900/5 amp and 10w6 sub back in 2007-8, they have seen three car installs along the way, the amp is still running strong and being used in my current system, the sub has finally gave out last month, the cone separated from the foam baffle on the outside, I know I could probably send it back and get it fixed (16+ years of jamming, cant complain!), but I decided to get a new one in your pre-made ported box, may still send back to see if the old one can be fixed. So I have a question about setting gains, I'm currently running Focal elite 165k2 two ways, the crossovers have sperate outputs for both the tweeter and mids, so, I have the tweeters running off the front channel and the mids running off the rear channels, should I use different test tones for each channel now that the mid and tweeter are running off separate channels? and if so, what test tones should I use for them? Also does this make any sense running them like this, is there any sound quality gain having the mid and tweeters getting more "power" or should I just run them off the front channel? thanks
So TW1 or TW3 with the VX700/5I? I have C3-650 in coax in the front door and C2-650x in the rear doors. Sub will go in the boot of an open hatchback (2014 Subaru Impreza)
What is “desirable” level of clipping for a sub in terms of a percentage of voltage above spec on a DMM? Sub is JL M7 12” Also, my Fusion RA770 doesn’t clip at full volume on my SMD-1 so I set the gains at full volume
I am truly educated here by JLAudio and glad to learn that people behind the products are really smart and informative. I have a question. For analog frequency filters, if I want my midrange to work fully at 300Hz, I have to set filter to high-pass mode and the potentiometer to 300/1.4 Hz or 214 Hz (at -6 dB) and then the power will drop 12 dB from 300 to 150 Hz. I already check out the manual and there is no information about at what frequency the filter starts to cut off for a given potentiometer value?
Yes! You could use the DMM method, although typically the clip light allows you to gain a bit of extra output versus the set target voltage suggested for 75 watts.

I wish every manufacturer had videos like JL! Someday I will be able to afford a full JL setup. Their subs and Amps combined give you a setup that will literally blow off your socks!
What an awesome video! I read manuals and tuned my amp for my XD300/12TS3 power wedge to 24.5v as the manual said at 3/4 of the volume . (Thanks for the sound file from your website) It didn’t quite sound/feel loud enough for my normal listening level. I did this before watching this video. Half volume is very loud on the stock Bose system in my truck, so I think I will tune it the same way but at half volume. If I decide to go louder than half, can I just use the remote to lower the sub volume in that scenario even though it would probably be very temporary? This video just made everything so much easier to understand when installing a new sub!

Hey there, Dante! Thanks for reaching out. Since no load is attached and the amplifier is not doing much work, it shouldn't matter if vehicle is on or off.
Hi, you mentioned something about the TwK88 and input sensitivity. My source unit has a 5v pre-out and distorts at volume 48/50. Am I right in saying that the lower the voltage number on the input side, the less gain I will need to use at the amplifier? I ask because right now, with the volume at where it is, the input is set at 7.1, which yields in me having to turn the gain up high, I normally run direct from source to amp and I don't have to crank up the gain so much, it normally clips at just under 1/4 of a turn.
Hi @JLaudio Just getting back into putting bass in my car after around 15 years gap so slightly rusty. I haven’t really used JL Audio in the past but after research I am sold. So I’d like around 500rms and am very interested in a single 10w3v-2, space is an issue so will be getting a custom sealed enclosure made specifically for it with all recommendations set by JL. My question is would the JD500/1 amp be a good partner for the sub? Many thanks

I’ve always been happy with JL products, I’ve been using them since 2000. Never a problem but I wouldn’t want to be a manufacturer. I’ve seen teenage idiots ( is there any other kind?) do everything wrong. 10 gauge wire from battery post to frame. Using amp gain AND Bass boost as volume control, 2 4 ohm subs wired series and claiming subs are junk with no output. You name it I’ve seen it.

Done this hundreds of times setting levels at 3/4. When you set the bass knob all the way up and adjust at 3/4. Everything below that and below half has 0 bass to the sub. Not sure that’s the best setting.

Geat to hear! To answer your question, the filters in most of our amplifiers have a 12dB slope.
Great Info! Can I use also the DMM method on a JD400/4 as well as the clipping LED?
Yes! You could use the DMM method, although typically the clip light allows you to gain a bit of extra output versus the set target voltage suggested for 75 watts.

Yes, as long as you're aware of the change and why you are doing it, there is nothing wrong with setting your sensitivity this way.
