I agree ☝️ Phantom is very expensive but it’s worth the money more than any other car in its class. From my personal experience The ride quality on phantom is on another level, purely magic. Maybach is a modified S class with extra stuff inside nothing special about it
As a mechanic, it seems that the Maybach is full of things that will go expensively wrong in 10-15 years while the RR will keep going for twice that. It's not a problem for the first owner but as these cars age it will be an issue on the second or third hand market.
RR is not a reliable car. And a switch costs as a 10 year old s class.

I never forget the first time a RR Phantom drove by next to me. Me sitting in the driver seat of a normal limousine and the front of the RR still being at the hight of my shoulders - these cars are gigantic…
The Phantom is ridiculously big. At 6 meters long, it dwarfs the Suburban by nearly 300 mm in length. That's about the same difference as the E Class and long wheelbase S Class, and yet the Phantom is a 4 seat sedan.
@@smar1208 Yeah. The phantom is longer than my school bus(Tempo Traveller Scholar edition). Even the Maybach is bigger but the difference is negligible. Force motors used to run ads in India showing off how compact their buses are by comparing them with the S class and showing how they were smaller.

I don't have to watch the review I came here to for. The brotherly smack from both cars inflicted on poor small brother was glorious. That was AWESOME!
I used to have a 1986 420sel W126 and I loved it. Picked her up for about 1500 bucks and put around 60k miles on the engine before I decided it was time to find something else more easy on gas. It was honestly an experience; driving her wherever I wanted to go.
This era of S-classes can’t even be compared to the current era.

Very much agree, coming from a diehard BMW fan, I was driven in a s class (not maybach) not too long ago while I was visiting Germany, and I'm sorry but I was flying at 200kmh. Absolutely impeccable driving. It's also much more modern feeling than the rolls and probably, as a tech person, would be better for me.

The Maybach and Phantom both are exquisite rides. Each one has amazing, truly distinct qualities that reign luxury. Royalty at its finest. The interior of the Maybach is ravishing, with excellent attention to detail and comfort. The ambient lighting is a sharp detail along with the rotating tweeters. It is equipped to adapt to every element life throws at it. I admire how Mercedes continues to push the envelope with new concepts. Absolutely, brilliant and beautiful. 💫
The Phantom color is truly unique, and the doors are classic. The soundproofing system is impeccable along with comfort. The chrome detail finishing from front to back is superb. I bet it rides light as a feather. 🦚

The RR wins without a struggle, and the difference between the two can be summed up in one word. Presence. The difference in the reception of the General Public & staff at major hotels & events is easily measurable. You guy are great! Love your intro's.
Just buy a Maybach GLS and hire a second driver in addition with the money that you safed and there you have your presence

I love the rolls royce but it wins strictly with exterior and everyone knowing it's a phantom. Interior wise it doesn't come close to the Maybach. Not at all. I have rolls royce phantom and recently have been considering selling it to get the new Maybach. So I've had time with both. The rolls royce is the better car to feel good in but the Maybach will give you better functionality and experience.
I think Maybach is simply a better car. More advanced and more options. If luxury isnt about comfort and having as many options as possible then idk what is. The Rolls however does have the presence, exclusivity combined with having such a smooth quiet ride. Other then that who drives or gets chauffeured around saying, "you know everyone, these seats and steering wheel were stitched and wrapped by single person by HAND". Lmao like who cares for that type of crap. There leather seats not homemade meals. Both cars ride like a cloud.
@@lloydbonafide3398 I agree with you but I must say the RR does drive smoother than the Maybach and its enough difference for you to notice but with the v12 and the new tech coming to the Maybach I'm almost sure it'll be on par with the RR but not better, ever in terms of driving.. At that point the RR only bargaining chips would be appearance, statement, etc. Yea the handmade pitch RR has is true but very laughable and pointless. I can understand something like the Patek Grandmaster Chime being in such high regard for its hand made craftsmanship or fostex th900 (amazing BTW) but not a RR. Selling me a 600k luxury car and saying it's not about all tech and gimmicky things is like Bugatti selling you a 2.6 million dollar car and saying it's not about speed.

I’m a huge Top Gear fan, as I’m sure many here are. For years I’d rewatch clips of banter between Clarkson, May, and Hammond when I want to relax and laugh. That sort of magic is extraordinarily rare, but during this review you made me laugh just like the banter of May and Clarkson comparing the Corniche and Grosser. And imho, there is no better praise than that

I live in Peterborough right by that Mercedes dealership. Beardsmore Rd that stretch right along the hwy is really fun to race the cars on the Hwy. Also one of the most bumpiest but I love the cows so it totally worth the route considering the hwy construction thats been happening for 6 years now.
I just wanted to add that Mercedes is expanding the Maybach upwards and will, hopefully, get to Rolls Royce territory.
I have said since the reintroduction of the Maybach as the Mercedes-Maybach S, that they should do this. I'm glad to finally see that they are taking steps in that direction. I hope they take to all the way.
First the introduced the Virgil Abloh edition of the Mercedes-Maybach...but the real kicker is the Haute Voiture edition.
In the future, Mercedes-Maybach might be customized similar to the Haute Voiture with bespoke options that wealthy owners want to "make it theirs"...just as they did with the original Maybach and how they do now with Rolls Royce.
Years ago, maybach 62, it is in same league as rolls royce. But it did not sell well, because most people dont know what maybach are.
@@rebelusa6585 Agreed. Mercedes positioned the original Maybach to be like Rolls Royce...exclusive. In many ways, they did very well. Even the ordering process was something more than spec'ing out a regular car at a regular dealership. It was more like building a Rolls Royce where you sit down and work with a specialist to get the car exactly the way you want it...with bespoke options.
While the Maybach brand was initially unknown except for vintage car afficionados, word did get around especially after many celebrities picked up a Maybach. Irrc, Puff Daddy even bought his son one for his 16th birthday. J Lo had one...a 62 which I saw up for sale a few years ago. I think Jay Z picked one up too. Also, Madonna, Rihanna, even Charlie Sheen had one.
I think one of the biggest problems was the inability to differentiate the Maybach from the regular S-class. Too many components were shared between the "exclusive" Maybach and the "common" regular S-Class. Even in the overall exterior styling department, the Maybach looked too close to the S-Class. Some people simply balked at the idea of spending twice as much to have the car potentially confused for the commonplace S-Class. This led to poor sales and then came the Financial Crisis of 2008 which pretty much killed all hope for the original Maybach.
This is what I found with the original Maybach. I thought that instead of a separate/standalone division, Mercedes should have incorporated it into the S-Class lineup as a most exclusive S-Class...like how AMG is the exclusive "sports" version. That way, there would be no ambiguity or disappointment with there being shared components. You correct, but the word "common" regular s class mercedes. It is common for very rich people, but not very common (normal) for average people.
@@rebelusa6585 I beg to differ. You are defining "common" based on affordability/ownership rate, but I am basing it on availability/prevalence rate.
While an S-Class is too expensive for most people to buy (new), it is very easy for them to spot on the road...i.e. it is "common".
Mercedes sells an average of 17k S-Class sedans a year (range 14k-20k in last 20 years) in the US.
In contrast, Chevy sells an average of 20k Corvettes a year (range 9k-30k) in the US.
OTOH, Bentley, Rolls Royce, and Maybach are rare in comparison to regular S-Class...and Lamborghini and Ferrari are rare in comparison to a Corvette.
They are rare enough that most people would do a double take if they spotted a Rolls or a Lamborghini...and probably try to snap some pics. They wouldn't think twice about an S-Class or a 'Vette.
While the way you look at it is not technically wrong, we have to remember that all of these vehicles are outside the scope of most people to afford (when new) but not outside their ability to spot on occasion.
Again, you are correct. But in america, most average people live in a house that cost less money than a new s class. If you buy a used s class for $20k and one day encounter a person that can afford a real (new) s class. That rich person ask, what do you do for a living, you say, i work at McDonald's. Imagine the look on his face and your face. Life are full of injustice. But i used to live in kansas, so i know.

It's funny how there's an argument about prices on these cars, when u reach the wealth to pay for those cars it doesn't matter anymore how much you pay, if you afford to buy a Maybach you probably can buy a Rolls-Royce it's just up to you and what you want from the car
‘Ehh I dunno man. There are a lot of people who can afford a $180k car. However, im sure that number is drastically reduced at $400k. One is an “I make good money” car, the other is an “I have no clue how much money I have” car.
A lot of generationally wealthy people count every penny they spend, they always look for ways to get the best deal possible and argue over miniscule amounts as long as they come out on top. Its often the new money that buys these "toys" that depreciate hourly.

The both cars are high end luxurious cars, it balls down to your personal definition of luxury, for me I'd go for the Maybach because it's more futuristic
I would simply ADORE anything, whether a car, or not, in the colour of the Phantom! HOWEVER, the ultra glossy finish on the woodwork makes it ancient history, and is vulgar.Trust me, I would SAND IT DOWN!

I have worked in sales in various areas of the car trade, though not selling the car's themselves. And I found the worst customers to please were the ones who really just didn't have any reactions at all! When you see something you DO want (in this case the S Class, ) you would be a salesperson's DREAM, for actually knowing what you want!

Both look extremely classy from the outside. Really a tastefull designs on both vehicles, but as much as I like MB Maybach, RR is a Rolls Royce! It's is the pinnacle of design, class and taste! RR Phantom has the presence of no other luxury vehicle. It is simply the stateliest car there is.
For a proper comparison you needed a Maybach s680 fully equipped

I don't think, that the Rolls-Royce has 3 times more luxury than the Maybach...
In fact, it's totally the other way: the Maybach defines a modern kind of luxury way better and has so much of new technological features, that the Phantom just looks like an outdated vehicle.
Sure, the Phantom is super quiet inside and has the best luxury suspension with its special dampers, but the Maybach has all of this TOO, and costs 3 times less than the Rolls-Royce.

Danny Porush drove a white to work back in 2012 and it was $500K back then when Mercedes was making them as a completely separate car. So this one with all the tech & gadgets should be touching $600k or more. The 2012 62 Landualet is listed at $1,380,000!!

Their cars are marketed at different people tbh so it makes it irrelevant that the rolls Royce is outdated in terms of tech and some luxury features. People buy rolls Royce’s generally are always in the backseat so tech isn’t so important for them and although the s class it’s self is often bought for chauffeuring too it’s more solidified as a car the owner drives and the owners tend to be people 35+ who want tech with classy luxury

I see everyone mentioned how they loved the Intro and they forgot to mention how powerful the Outro was. It was powerfully written. This is why I love Throttle House. You laugh but then it leaves a lasting impression on you. I absolutely enjoyed this. Although regardless of the fact that the Maybach lost, I'd go for the Maybach over the Rolls-Royce Phantom.

For every product, there is a sweet spot. Beyond which one experiences fewer results from the money spent. Such was the very first Lexus. Such was the Hyundai Azera. The automobiles reviewed here are in rarified air, but the Maybach is closer to the automotive sweet spot. Which does not take away from how magnificent the Phantom is.
