  • This is my video of a scenic drive from Mesa, AZ to Payson, AZ via Hwy 87. The trip starts at the corner of E. McKellips Road and N. Ellsworth Road in Mesa. Travel north on Usery Pass Road to Bush Highway to Hwy 87 and thence to Payson. About 75 miles. It is a long video. Feel free to fast-forward through parts.
The elevation rises from 1660 ft in Mesa to 5000 ft in Payson. As the elevation rises, the temperature gets a little cooler, the land a little less dry, and the vegetation a little thicker and greener.

There was a really bad snow storm last February 2024 that hit Mount Ord while I was driving through from AZ To NM. I grew up in ND driving on iced over roads with large snow drifts most of my life but that drive in the mountains with zero visibility, heavy snowfall, at 5am was the most sketchy stretch of road I have ever driven on. It took us almost 4hrs to crawl over that mountain because we could only drive 5-10 mph. Just thought I would share lol

Yes, it snows in Arizona. Sometimes it's best to just stay home. 🙂
