Great video. I have zeon zoysia in my lawn and yes, it was not cheap, BUT it's established. I will never have to over seed etc. I've had to do very little work on it besides mowing/watering/fertilizer in the summer. My lawn used to be tall fescue, and my zoysia is MUCH easier to maintain. I'll also add that it greens up around March when I scalp it down and starts going dormant around December. It's almost the end of November right now and the zoysia is still green.
I have Empire Zoysia, and it loves to spread. Keeps trying to take over flowerbeds that get good sun. As far as chinch bugs, nematodes and Army worms, from what I understand, most Zoysias are pretty resistant to them. Make sure to do soil testing, if you see issues. I had a few spots in which it just would not take, but the soil was too acidic. Added quick lime once a year for two years and most of these are now thick with zoysia. I let the Zoysia have a rear flowerbed that got full sun. I just raked it full of oak leaves. In about 2 years, the roughly 30x10 bed was completely covered in thick zoysia.
Laying Emerald Zoysia sod in my yard (Atlanta area) the last two years and this coming spring. Getting mine for $350/pallet and labor is $200/pallet includes scraping up old yard. Zoysia is slow everything including recover from post chemicals. I leave my new sod chemical free for a year. Have to keep it watered (correctly) and it goes in and out of dormant the same as my neighbors unwatered Bermuda. Grew some Emerald plugs in a pot for a year and roots went a foot deep all the way down to the bottom of the pot.
Man living in nj and my first house was zoysia! Never had to water, fertilize, or use any fungicides with it.. my new house kbg and rye and man oh man the $ to maintain it.
I have Zorro Zoysia. It’s pretty easy if you keep a schedule of fertilization, fungicide, and weed control. Also the lower you cut it the less fungus problems you will have. We cut ours at 5/8. I also spray insecticide twice a year to stay on top of that. Get a soil test every year and the labs will tell you how to maintain it.
I have a emerald zoysia lawn has a few bare spots and with weeds where the zoysia is thick little to no weeds but i have found a way that helps it spread making the runners crawl pretty fast and cover the bare spot...I tried this out this summer and was surprised at how fast it covered and thickened up pretty good in just a month or so...
Hey love your tutorials I HATE ZOYSIA GRASS It crept over from my stupid neighbor who does nothing for landscaping. I’m in central jersey and want my Bluegrass
