We just did a whole sod job with this type of exact situation. We trimmed some of the big tree limbs, till out all of the grabage weeds and Bermuda and installed Zenneth Zoysia in Late July. It worked perfectly
Zoysia would work. It doesn’t grow fast in shade but it does OK. Pruning the trees very high to raise the canopy would help but thinning out the density of trees would help a lot.
Atlanta area and put 4 pallets Emerald Zoysia on a hillside last April. Put 4 pallets 2 years ago on a hillside shade that only gets 2-4hrs sun in the summer (100ft white oak woods). Both areas holding up well with no runoff or thinning. Let the grass grow taller in shaded areas to develop deeper roots. Water and liquid fertilized a little more. No weed killer(s) the first year. Pre emerge after 1.5 - 2 years.
So how do you kill Carpet Grass? I just moved into a house in Indian Springs Village, and its COVERED in carpet grass... and I finally got to finish the video... celsius. Thank you
PRUNE THOSE TREES! That alone will add a lot of sunlight. And go ahead and do it now. They're mature trees, they can handle it. Much easier to thin-out trees when they're leafy if the goal is to allow broken sunlight through.
Topping mature hardwoods just so you can get some grass to grow is crazy. Just throw down some clover seed and be done with it. Guy has 4 dogs this is never going to be yard of the month.
Oh, about your hill problem, aside from the obvious solution like netting for hill, tarps works too when you are desperate, Heavy traw hay would help but will kill the sod if left on for long time. Most important is compacting the soil with a tamper. Another is finding that gap in the weather where there isn't a lot of rainfall for a few weeks. In Connecticut its always the first few weeks of september.
I'd even try St Augustine as it it shade and wear tolerant and does well in Australia at a similar latitude as Alabama. And for a cheaper option try some plugs and see if it takes, rather than the expense of the whole back yard.
squirrels digging holes in my perfect lawn in Connecticut. should I mix garlic powder in galon tank of water to repell them, Cayanne pepper worked against the rabbits.
Just yesterday I noticed a squirrel digging in the canopy of my bermuda and eating something. I watched and got curious. Had to go n see what he was getting. Well, to my surprise he was eating army worms!!! Had to Google it and see if they ate them and sure enough they do! Did a soapy water test and a bunch came wiggling up out of the suds. Sprayed Triazicide and found a bunch of dead worms all over. So, long story short, check n see why your squirrel is digging. Might be army worms too!
Looks like he has a disease going on. I had the same thing especially around my swamp maples. Ends up that I had to use a full sun partial shade seed and a tall fescue seed
Can you tell me shall I reseed Bermuda then pre-emergent , or pre-emergent first then reseed in spring? If so, what is the best time for my back yard which is basically weeds very few Bermuda in the south .
If it's originally hybrid sod Bermuda then you don't want to reseed, the color and texture will be different throughout your lawn. You'll want to do preemergent and 10 10 10 fertilizer right now, water them in. Then in a week or so do a round of weed stop for lawns (yellow top) or 2,4 d. Then preemergent again in feb ish, then start watering good and fertilizer every month for like 6 months with lots of water esp in June July August. It will spread like crazy. Weed spray lightly as needed. If it's not sod then do your preemergent now, do image herbicide in December and again maybe late January (poa killer) then do weed stop for lawns red top in late Feb and March (baby crabgrass killer) then by March all your October preemergent is mostly gone for sure, and you can seed. Seed lightly, water water water + fertilizer. Then after 6 to 8 weeks lightly seed again. Don't put out all your seed at once for various reasons I won't go into here. Then no weed spray till maybe June. Then if you fertilize well get rain and water enough to can do preemergent again in October. Good luck
Also look at sprigging and plug Bermuda grass videos after your lawn thickens up you can do these things to help it spread faster. I use a proplugger works great. Sprigging I use the clippings from edging my sidewalks.

Thanks!❤❤❤
The sun angle is higher in summer but what if you cut the top of the trees off like 20 feet? just to get the new seeds established for a year.

Shingle and staple the sod on the hillside. It doesn’t look the best but it will hold until it can root even with heavy rains.
The sod itself should hold the water from washing. We had issues arming the pool, I couldn’t wait it was washing my seed and dirt. The sod held it
I know this is a lawn channel, but maybe if it's so hard, do something that would work like gravel paths, some kind of ground cover, and make it work
