Apple pies always remind me of my paternal granny, wonderful memories! Her pastry was absolutely to die for, she used cloves in the pie filling (not my favourite) or sometimes quince that grew in the garden. Guess who's going to make apple pies for the freezer next week? I bought a pair of the skeleton oven gloves from the website. They are terrific! I love the length of them too, there's been many a time when I've caught my wrist on the oven shelf and have the scars to prove it 😂 They came beautifully packaged as well, it was almost a pity to open the parcel, it was so neat 😊

I make full-size pies and crisps with a mix of gala, pink ladies and granny smiths. I love the different textures and flavors. I can my fillings when local fruit is ripe and use whenever. Saves so much time❤😊

These mini apples pies are so useful to have for thanksgiving dessert time.Everybody gets an individual pie instead of a large piece of a normal sized pie.For not having too big portion for watching sugar intake.I always felt mini pies are the best for such occasions.

Even here across the pond we have Gala, and I it's my favorite overall! Dont' have orange zest but i have organe marmalade and orange juice. I imagine a touch of the marlmalade could be a substitute for the zest. Love these videos. Easy to follow and relaxing to watch. Dont' have the pan for these but will figure out a substitute way to make this, maybe use my silicone brownie pan and make one large, square shaped pie.
@davidcarbone3385 You can zest an orange yourself quite easily. John shows you how to do it in his 'Orange Cake/Pudding, A Delicious Winter Dessert' video.
@@Poliss95 Thanks! Yes, I've zested lemons before, but my foot surgery prevents me from going out and getting an orange lol So for the time being I'll prolly substitute the marmalade.

I use a KitchenCraft peeler and corer. I find it to be much quicker and easier than peeling and coring by. hand. The trick is to set the cutter to the right thickness.

One thing my mother used to do when baking pies, is to use the left over crust dough. Because you always have a little left over.
What she would do would be to roll it out thin (1/8" is probably perfect), then dust it with cinnamon and sugar. that would go in before the pies while the oven was heating. It was a tasty snack, to be sure. If we were home, the kids got it, if she was baking during the day, SHE got it! We had a lot of pies cooked during the weekday, when my father and us kids were at work/school. I wonder why that was.... ^-^

These look great: I must say they are a stunning size, specifically everything these days seems to be big and whopping, but I think things would sell far better if people felt they were being treated to a little of what they fancy. Inflation can only be blamed to a point, as these would sell and turn over a profit any day of the week. Your channel is arguably the best baking channel on UA-cam as trendy can be overrated, but old favourites are always a winner. :-)))

Would you please consider doing some kind of mushroom pie? I once had a mushroom slice from Asda and it was just as nice as a chicken and mushroom slice but half the price, saw one in Sainsbury's and it was about £3.
