There's a lot of ideas in the story. I think the main idea is it's about a society full of boys who were brought up fatherless & with very little love. So they try to fill their lives with materialism & job accomplishments, while going through life without any close relationships or ability to love.
I was working at a movie theater when this movie premiered. I'd never seen so many people leave halfway because it wasn't actually a movie about fighting. I could get free tickets so I saw this one 5 times, bringing a different friend each time. I loved watching their reactions (like I'm enjoying yours).
I worked at a movie theater just before this came out. South park the movie was the one I remember half the audience walking out during the Uncle Fu*ker song.
The Final Moments Of The Movie Are About Finding Peace Through Facing Issues Head-On. By shooting himself, The Narrator seemingly dismisses his Tyler Durden persona, winning the fight for control that he hadn't realized he'd been a participant in until barely half an hour prior.
So I’m tripping out because I thought you guys already reacted to this lol. Oh, I’m stoked for this one!!! Lets go!!! Edit you guys killed the editing on this!
I think the reason why Tyler died even though he just shot himself in through the jaw was because it showed he was willing to do anything, go to any extreme, even kill himself to get rid of Tyler. And that was enough to make Tyler go away.
exactly.. tyler was created as the alter to what norton Tyler wished he could be and "let go"... the moment he shot himself, he became Tyler Durden.. fearless. hence, Tyler goes away.
I believe Tyler's explanation of the origin of soap is pretty historically accurate, hence the idea that fat from human bodies, when saponified with lye, makes the "best soap" and some of the most luxurious soaps still come from in and near the middle east.
You two are always quick with figuring things out well before the film shows or tells you, I knew you’d get it. Very quick witted and intelligent, for sure! Thanks for doing these, always enjoy hearing your thoughts and seeing your reactions.
Wow! You two are SMART. You figured it out LONG before anyone else I've ever seen. Very clever girls! And it's not just this one -- you ALWAYS figure things out in movies at the earliest possible point. I'm so impressed. Really.
You're probably a little young to know this song but... The end of the film with the Pixies song "Where is my mind"... For me the best ending of all time 😉
Made me think of another movie though different a psychological drama also: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. One of the best low budget films since Night of the Living Dead. But loaded with movie stars between projects: Kate Winslet Jim Carey in first dramatic role and others. It was actually nominated for Academy Awards. One of my all time favorite movies.
The bullet went trough his cheek and maybe jaw, but Tyler side of his brain believed he really shot himself in the head, so he ceased to exist really believing he's dying. Most people figured out the twist when they literally revealed it near the end, at the time. You ladies were pretty observant to the clues and figured it out much earlier. Of course, this "split personality" thing wasn't as common in movies and tv shows at the time and the movie had good distractions to throw you off from those ideas but you two weren't easily distracted and discussed it enough during the movie to encourage each other's suspicion about it. I remember having that thought early similar to you but the movie went in so many interesting directions and I've brushed that idea off, as I watched it alone. I later figured it out again when Marla's reaction to the narrator saying "Tyler is not here, Tyler went away" but I don't credit myself too much about it as it's only about 5 minutes before the actual reveal.
Yes they really had a lot of diversions, but like you said, both of us having similar theories gave us assurance. I think figuring it out anyway where ahead of the big reveal is amazing because they did so well with the concealing and diversions from the clues.
Then who splices in the naughty image at the end of the film…? Alter-Tyler is still there laying low having accomplished his primary missions of “freeing” society and lifting up Tyler-prime 😏😜
GIRLS!! The 1st Rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club. So is the 2nd Rule..... My favorite sequences were him just yanking his boss's balls and doing whatever he wanted at work, not caring about his appearance, showing up with black eyes etc. The contrast between the normal 9 to 5 play by all the corporate rules milquetoast nobody vs a guy who is literally doing whatever he wants without fear. The other fav scene is Tyler showing no fear of the Mafia restaurant owner and turning the tables on him by bleeding and drooling all over him forcing him to admit they can keep using the basement. Great scene.

This was such a great reaction. It's nice to see a channel really get that this movie is really freakin' funny at times, in spite of all the dark themes. Really cathartic dark humor. You girls are SHARP. I've seen maybe 2 other reactors figure out who Tyler was before the reveal, and I think you two are the first to do it THAT early in the movie. You're amazing..! Anyway, I've watched this film countless times and thought about it a lot over the years. I think psychologically, it's more like Masochists Club. I think it's that the men who join feel empowered by being able to be beaten up, severely, and still survive, that the ability to fight comes in part from that. It's also social commentary that men are kind of evolutionarily adapted to fight to survive, and that the modern world has become so sanitized that since men can't do this anymore, they're wasting away chasing other forms of financial and commercial success they can't all achieve. So the fighting is partly them getting back to the core essence of "what men are supposed to do", and partly that, when spreading chaos, their ability to survive and thrive in such chaos is a flex. Because modern life is too safe, people aren't forced to prioritize whatever's truly important to them, and sacrifice the things that are lower priority. So they don't consider whatever time they have in their lives precious. (Also, Cornelius saying he heard Tyler was born "in a mental institution" is kinda funny if you've ever seen Brad Pitt's earlier film, 12 Monkeys..)
Also I think that they have become dis-empowered wage slaves. The movie also points out the contradiction that by making things safe, people will never experience living. Pleasure and pain are on the same scale, and without suffering you can't fully appreciate the pleasures.
Impressed by your speed picking up the twist, but moreso by the attention to detail that you showed to pick up the clues....it wasn't just a hunch. My favorite is how everyone just dismisses the opening lines where he says “I know this because Tyler knows this”. wtf is that supposed to mean otherwise? 😂 Not that I caught on immediately the first time either, of course.
Lol it just wasn’t adding up. Tyler in the back saying he fell down the stairs, then he repeats it to the doctor 😆. Something seemed off… then the other clues started to fall into place. The plot is amazing 💜
You girls are smart as hell! It definitely took me way longer till i figured out Tyler was his alter ego! 😄 It wasn't until Edward Norton's character told Marla that "Tyler isn't here" and her looking at him scared that i was like "Oh, that's definitely what it is"
“…It’s way-out… in the water see it swimming.” -Pixies One for the records, señoritas. Your deducting skills are impressive. Entertaining as always and quite naturally awesome. Keep on keeping on and Gritos from Tejas. “I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise.” -The Narrator
I’m impressed you two are savvy enough to rewatch fight club on the first time round. 👍 I wonder if you’ve seen other media with this kind of device in the years since it came out? Maybe it wasn’t as familiar to audiences in ‘99 as it is now. Either way i enjoyed the reaction 👍
You guys picked up on the twist so quick! I first saw this in theaters and didn’t figure it out till the reveal. D.I.D or Insomnia wasn’t common knowledge in the 90’s unless you put an effort into researching and studying it…at the library
You ladies got it quick! I thought that the real Tyler wanted to integrate personalities at the end and shooting himself showed his mind that it was serious and had to be done.
COOL that you two got it early but one clever thing happened when fat BOB saw him and mentioned Tyler's name. He DIDN'T say he started Fight Club, he said he was a Member and only went on Saturdays. He also used fake names at the Therapy Sessions so Bob didn't realize that he was actually Tyler, not until they were at Fight Club the same night! Brilliantly added scene to make you question whether you'd figured it out or not! But one thing I never noticed before is when he & Tyler both entered the drivers side of the car he crashed. WELL DONE!!! Most don't figure it out until much later or not until they tell you.
i did not realize the split until much later in the movie, you guys are very observant as usual and very fun to watch along with i enjoyed as always thank you guys, virtual hug the scenes where they try to start fights with random people is probably my favorite, the hose in particular
In the book, all he ate after work was peanut butter sandwiches. My theory is he had a mild peanut allergy which kept him from sleeping. This whole thing is because of peanut butter.
For me, it was around the time "Tyler disappeared" and "unnamed protagonist" starts flying all over trying to find him. Idk if you caught that or not, but they never give Edward Norton's character a name. It could be Tyler, or Tyler is the name of the alter.
36:53 you ask "where do people figure out what's happening?" 37:14 this is where 98% of the world (including myself) figured it out. it is so weird watching the reaction of someone that figures it out so early. 😵💫
I did make and sell soap for several years, and practically every man who walked by my booth asked me if I'd seen this damn movie. At that point, I hadn't, but felt as if I had.
I didn't figure it out until the final reveal at the hotel cause I was just chilling and not thinking much when I watch movies. I think it was the sleep disorder because he was working for a corrupt car company that has a high death rate and he can't really do anything about it other than go to the accidents, file the report about the bodies and such. Also because he doesn't feel any connection and is trapped by materialism so Tyler was his escape.
Angle was little off it went out of his cheek, but important thing was because he finally was free and did not afraid to even die, so no more need of Tyler, so Tyler died.
I think when he shoots himself, he fully intended to die and so mentally, he finally hit rock bottom and that free'd himself of Tyler. He was just lucky that the bullet went out the side of his face and so he narrowly survived. I never really understood the ending for quite some time and never really liked that part but I feel like I get it more now. Awesome reaction btw! :)
The crazy thing is they continued the story which takes place after the movie and first book in comic book form, written By Chuck Paulinuk in Fight Club 2, and Fight Club 3. They havn't gotten to adapting it, and they might never. Fight Club was super controversial in its release because its Anarchic Pop culture. The characters are flawed, but people in real life were spoiling the movie when it was on theaters on talk shows, and tried to boycott it. Its a cautinary tale about feeling you don't have control, to having all the control, and still being powerless. He had to litterally kill his power fantasy/ schotzofrenic alter ego to reclaim his life. You see that Tyler/Jack gives no fucks about anyone, his mindset lead him to darker, and deeper terrorism towards the end he cares about how his actions will affect him, and Marla, bringing the whole thing crashing down.
I love Jamie as a character, but he's still a villain in this story. We see flashes of honor in him because he's a bit grey, so wr think he's growing, but when he threated Edmund's new born kid in Season 6, he's letting us know there that he's still the kind of guy who would push a child from a window.
She said he got there fast because remember he sat the phone up on the top not hanging it up and left immediately to see her when she kept talking on the phone making her say wow you got here fast !
With a little seed of doubt because she also asks “Did I call you?” She’s obviously not in a clear state of mind, though, which could still lead her to asking that even to someone she definitely called.

@@JynxRyl ♥ to jyn and ryl... God bless Jamaica.
i guess i never realized how obvious the twist in this movie was. haha
My favorite is how everyone just dismisses the opening lines where he says “I know this because Tyler knows this”.
wtf is that supposed to mean otherwise? 😂
Not that I caught on immediately the first time either, of course.

Great reaction to a classic movie. Seeing those buildings pancake collapse like that at the end, four years before 9/11 was weird.
GREAT reaction!
Kudos to both, you caught the twist earlier than most back in the day...back then I had to wait for the reveal lol.😊
you're they only reactors who guess it right !!! nice! I never saw it coming when i saw this movie in theatre as it came out.
17:13... Girl... you're too smart. LOL
@@stabishop1769 No. They're very wise girls. I watch their reactions often. They're smart, clever and funny. Go away, stop being negative.
man stop being a hater! go outside!@@stabishop1769
Lol that guy doesn’t know how much we analyze even comedies 😂. We aren’t always right with our theories, but we sure always catch a lot of details.
They already watched it.
@@TylerD288and used google, then get online and pretend to be smart.
@18:20 This has to be a record. NO ONE figures that out this early. WOW!!!
Sometimes Jyn and Ryl say "Ohhhh," at the same time and it makes me laugh
Haha 😂
Jyn with the quickness. "Sometimes Tyler spoke for me."
You could see it on her face from that moment on. Knowing grin. 😏❤️
😄 It wasn't until Edward Norton's character told Marla that "Tyler isn't here" and her looking at him scared that i was like "Oh, that's definitely what it is"
Don't believe everything you see on the net. They googled the film and faked their reaction.

One for the records, señoritas. Your deducting skills are impressive. Entertaining as always and quite naturally awesome. Keep on keeping on and Gritos from Tejas.
“I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise.”

Bro, you do realize they google the film before viewing it, yeah?
@@thatdude79ab alright, cool. It’s not my way but it’s a way.
I’m impressed you two are savvy enough to rewatch fight club on the first time round. 👍
I wonder if you’ve seen other media with this kind of device in the years since it came out? Maybe it wasn’t as familiar to audiences in ‘99 as it is now. Either way i enjoyed the reaction 👍
You guys picked up on the twist so quick! I first saw this in theaters and didn’t figure it out till the reveal. D.I.D or Insomnia wasn’t common knowledge in the 90’s unless you put an effort into researching and studying it…at the library
The first rule of Jyn x Ryl Club is you definitely talk about Jyn x Ryl Club. 😊
Yesssss!! 💜
Awesome you two figured out the twist so early.
You ladies got it quick! I thought that the real Tyler wanted to integrate personalities at the end and shooting himself showed his mind that it was serious and had to be done.
"We're already OCD enough ", well recommending the Final Destination films is out of the question.
lol 😂 we’ve already seen those though. Think that might have contributed 😭.
Too true! 🤣
10:15 how do ya'll know the Lorena Bobbitt story?? that was the early 90s!
I think we had seen a documentary or something. The most interesting part is that the husband wasn’t freaking out at all 😳
The same way they "figured" out the twist: google.
If you haven't reacted to THE GAME yet, that is also a must see that will wrap your brain into a pretzel.
Bob is Meatloaf.
And his pants fall down in the scene when they are leaving the event dressed as the catering crew😅
Rip
Dave is cube steak
This and 'Snatch' that came out around the same time are 2 of my favorite Brad Pitt films.
You guys figured this out way faster than anyone I've seen.
i tried to click it and it was gone but now its back!
cant wait to see what you make of this very odd movie lets go
i did not realize the split until much later in the movie, you guys are very observant as usual and very fun to watch along with
i enjoyed as always thank you guys, virtual hug
the scenes where they try to start fights with random people is probably my favorite, the hose in particular
In the book, all he ate after work was peanut butter sandwiches. My theory is he had a mild peanut allergy which kept him from sleeping. This whole thing is because of peanut butter.
Damn ladies….yall picked up the twist quick 🤯
For me, it was around the time "Tyler disappeared" and "unnamed protagonist" starts flying all over trying to find him. Idk if you caught that or not, but they never give Edward Norton's character a name. It could be Tyler, or Tyler is the name of the alter.
You keep it real, that's cool.
💜💜
Not many reactors notice the first Tyler blip its when the narrator is at the copy machine tyler appears 6 times before the meeting
You guys are too smart! Figured it out really early.
36:53 you ask "where do people figure out what's happening?"
37:14 this is where 98% of the world (including myself) figured it out.
it is so weird watching the reaction of someone that figures it out so early. 😵💫
Love you girls and your reaction channels.
We need a Jyn and Ryl group
Well done for figuring that out!
I did make and sell soap for several years, and practically every man who walked by my booth asked me if I'd seen this damn movie. At that point, I hadn't, but felt as if I had.
This movie changed my whole way of thinking.
7:47 i'm a flight attendant, i can verify this. 👍🏼
👌🏾
You guys figured it out way earlier than most people
I didn't figure it out until the final reveal at the hotel cause I was just chilling and not thinking much when I watch movies. I think it was the sleep disorder because he was working for a corrupt car company that has a high death rate and he can't really do anything about it other than go to the accidents, file the report about the bodies and such. Also because he doesn't feel any connection and is trapped by materialism so Tyler was his escape.
"The guy with the tits" is the funniest way I've ever heard anybody refer to a movie character
This movie is where the geniuses of the internet glommed onto the word "❄️"
This movie was a mind-blower in the day.
My imaginary best friend has always been Brad Pitt
So, your real best friend has always been Edward Norton? 😉
You guys are sharp. Haven't seen many people figure out the twist so early in the movie. I didn't first time I watched lol
You all are too smart. I didn't figure it out until the fight in the office. 26:06
Hello JR Squad 👋
Hey 👋🏾
Angle was little off it went out of his cheek, but important thing was because he finally was free and did not afraid to even die, so no more need of Tyler, so Tyler died.
I think when he shoots himself, he fully intended to die and so mentally, he finally hit rock bottom and that free'd himself of Tyler. He was just lucky that the bullet went out the side of his face and so he narrowly survived. I never really understood the ending for quite some time and never really liked that part but I feel like I get it more now. Awesome reaction btw! :)
Just like in the car crash scene. Tyler was trying to get him to let go. He finally did for himself.
Right? I had no idea, the end was such a shock!
Yeah that’s the point, why would you say “you got here fast” to a complete stranger. It would be more like “who the f*#k are you” don’t you think?
With a little seed of doubt because she also asks “Did I call you?” She’s obviously not in a clear state of mind, though, which could still lead her to asking that even to someone she definitely called.
47:15 best break down I have seen from reactors to this film
Could’ve sworn they reacted to this already
