It's a shame snowflake journalists, the type that work for papers like The Guardian have taken it upon themselves to try and destroy everything about what was good about the eras we grew up in. Hopefully the plague of cancel culture will soon be wiped out. There's a great comment by @shawnstrife5527 that said people have fetishized the need to be offended. I think that rings quite true these days.

While I like the Guardian and I think there should be more papers like that and less Murdoch trash in this case that reviewer was clearly on drugs while watching the movie.

Back in the day when Mary Whitehouse was active the counter argument was always that there was the option to switch channels, turn the tv off, or leave the cinema but now we have the internet and online petitions everywhere. Apparently it's called progress.

mick didn't grope 2 trans women, he groped just the one in the bar (and I think the character was just supposed to be a guy in drag), the other was a woman with manly features and voice, hence why he said "just checking". and it's stupid of people to claim that's transphobic as it makes sense that someone like mick would be terribly confused by encountering a man dressed as a woman, and where he's from they are very direct. and asking the limo driver what tribes he's from isn't racist either, mick's only ever lived in the outback where all black people he knows are part of one of the tribes, and since he's not that educated in the ways of the world outside of the outback then it makes sense that he would assume a black man he meets in NY was from a tribe.

The people that will say this film is racist or sexist or whatever, are usually the people who have never traveled anywhere outside their city and only hang out with fellow "woke folk". These very same people can't comprehend that not everyone on this planet lives the same way or has the same weak minded mentality. They have lived in a special snowflake bubble their entire life and don't understand anything outside of it. Sucky part is that here in the US they are allowed to ruin everyone's fun. Ozzy culture is direct, to the point, and awesome.

I know people are taking things way to serious getting offended by anything. Well this trans thing is nothing new it was happening hundreds of years ago as well as cross dressing society is just over tired of having this or the gay thing shoved in our faces. I think they should all stay home and hide under there bed sheets.

Taking offence now about movies/tv shows from many years ago tells me all I need to know about society today! If your offended turn it off! Freedom of speech seems to be an exclusive right for those who are complaining about somebody who actually dared to say what they're thinking not what's was expected in any situation!

A classic and hilarious movie. It was about a fish out of water, and how he would react to being out of his element. I felt Dundee's reactions would have been genuine, and without malice. I also feel that the writer of the article was a narcissist, and probably no fun at a party because he was criticizing a movie about a fictional character who was out of their element. 🤷

The ""two fleas" are white and aboriginal people in the wider context of that line - and it's an elegant metaphor about the land not really being "owned" by anyone since land exists far longer than any human.

Cancel cancel culture. Mick from the Australian Outback meeting a guy who looks like those he knows from his native land and asking what tribe he’s from is a culture cross, not a mistake. Mick doesn’t know better and that was obvious.
Cancel culture (and those who write in support of it) knew this, but just wanted to make a name for themselves. The usual “look at me” syndrome.

I saw this movie this movie as a teenager…a fun movie that I watched with my teenager years later! It seemed then and now to be sympathetic towards the Aboriginal people of Australia. It played up his encounter with the crossdresser for laughs but doesn’t seem mean or hateful. If anything it portrays Dundeee as backwards…that is to say one realizes you shouldn’t do that if you aren’t backwards.

literally not one scene was "transphobic" everything was lighthearted and all in fun, and not one moment was used to point and say "that's gross" or equivalent. same with the "example" of "racism", an honest question from someone who lacks an understanding of the context, is NOT racist. Hogan said it well, sometimes it's warranted (song of the south), and sometimes its a stupid reach made by people who have some fetishized NEED to be offended (crocodile dundee)

    • @rockywatchesmovies

If anything, I'd be offended if I were Australian for the film's portrayal of Dundee as a backwoodsman unaware of modern civilization. LOL.
I loved this movie. It's a true classic. Thankfully, I never saw the sequels (sequels are not equals) because I knew they could never be as good as the original.

There weren't two trans women, just one...the second "trans" was just a questionable looking woman. Regardless, with the trans woman not giving any indication she wasn't actually a REAL (yup, I said it) woman in the first place, then "she" had everything she got coming to her. And asking Reginald Vel Johnson what tribe he was from wasn't offensive, it was just silly. Me and family laughed at it. 💁🏿‍♂️

Before this movie was made I used to watch the Paul Hogan show on PBS so I was already familiar with Australian comedy. They did things differently down under; a blend of American and British culture. To start with, drinking their beer cold and cooking outside and of course their irreverence toward the "mother" country. Not many people know that Australians love Florida and many of them , including the Bee Gees, live there today. One reason I think the third movie failed was that most Aussies just didn't like Los Angelou and would have given the movie a "thumbs up" if it had been located in Miami.

I grew up watching The Paul Hogan Show, it was a fantastic show, during the past couple of weeks I have even watched a few clips on UA-cam, some complete shows. As for being offensive, apparently it was recently on British TV and they cut a lot out of it to make it virtually unwatchable. It is humour nothing else, surprising how the people most offended love to make fun of white, Caucasian, Christian males every chance they get.

It's up to an individual to TAKE offence about something. So it's basically on them. If you're offended, then don't watch it. Nobody's forcing you to watch it. Go and do something else with your life instead of being offended about someone else's creative work. Maybe go make your own movie that's better than Crocodile Dundee or something like that.
