    I watched a lot of these videos and I have come to believe over half of the people sending for repairs are flat out lying.

    I waited so long for that roaster chip to come out and it never did. I bought the opal vision because of that chip the Flicker fixer abilities it was going to offer. I actually blew up my opalvision by hot plugging the VGA output on it so be careful! avoid hot plugging the output on Opal vision cards, everyone!!

    Loved the OpalVision board and software! 💖 Back in 1990-96 I got to teach computer art, graphics and (Lightwave) 3d as an adjunct instructor at the respected Atlanta College of Art. OpalVision was a key to keeping the Amiga lab alive for a few bonus years by convincing them to invest in several A3k systems with OpalVision cards, and a Raptor render engine. I networked the lab with Enlan and programmed a render queue for sharing the Raptor. Final piece to the puzzle was a single frame video animation recorder. I might have been able to keep the lab viable even longer if the OpalVision Roaster chip had materialized -- I saw the Roaster features impressively demo'd at the '92 NAB show in Vegas, but the (Aussie) product didn't make it to release before the demise of Commodore. (PS: 1 or 2 OpalVision cards will be in the care package I'll be sending you this summer, Chris).

    Nightmare lol! I would be tempted to have a go at it, but it would take a good 60 hours as you say, and a lot of wires. If you were charging a cheap $30 per hour, at 60 hours that's like $1800.... It's better to get that re-amiga'd for sure.

    Pick your battles! As before, there are machines that are just organ donors without super heroic measures. Glad you know when to say when! 👍🙂

    Hobbies are fun, that doesn't look like fun. At least you saved the brain. I would love to do a remake of the A2000. Take care.

    Good for you for pulling the pin early. Might be time to get detailed pictures before people send stuff in to you?

    Looks like someone bagged on of Ripley's bad guys. That's definitely a donor at best and even then it will be fingers crossed with some of the chipset.

    The amiga 4000 board look like some 286, 386, 486 boards that I repaired to make the boards worked. The owner may buy amiga 4000 circuit boards and use some parts from the old board.

    Oh no! I recapped my 3640 last year, but followed the silk screen :(

  • @kriegermetal
    @kriegermetal 2 місяці тому +1

    As I recall the A3640 boards had a lot of odd bits, like the version 3.0 -> 3.1 -> 3.2 , I believe the 3.0->3.1 was a must have change though and could be a minor field mod.

    I was going to suggest you ran into the issue of the kickstart image not coming up with 3.2 unless you have a floppy drive connected to the motherboard... but then I got to the point in the video where you zoomed in and showed the extent of the Varta Vengeance.
