Missed opportunity on the 400GB drive to call it Biggus Dickus lmao
Those storage options are great.
I can’t remember exactly what I paid for my A2000’s GVP 030 accelerator card w/RAM and HDD back in the day, but I’m pretty sure it was at least twice what this costs.
I love how I find out about these cards until AFTER they
are all sold out lol. Hopefully more will be available soon.
I have been looking at this card recently, nice to see you go through some specs. You think the price hike from Euro to USD was big, try Euro to CAD (Canadian), Yikes. Nice to see the Amiga community coming up with new tech. I prefer the new tech rather than sticking a Pi into an Amiga, if you want to use a Pi, I say, put the Pimiga in it. 😀
Randell Jesup was on the Retro Hour Podcast this week and talked a bit about working on Amiga OS and about the AAA and Hombre chipsets.
I really wish the designs of these could be dumped in the open so we can try to replicate them in FPGA just to see what Commodore was working on.
One cool thing he said was they proposed an updated pizzabox type affordable follow up to the 2000 in a case the size of the 1000, but with Zorro slots out the side.
I really have been wanting something in that 1000 sized case.
Wow, super cool CPU card =D Great video Chris!
I remember way way back when I used to own an A2000HD
SATA! At last!!
Another great Vid Dr Chris 👍🏻 Don’t own a A2000, but good to see that these machines haven’t been forgotten. Hopefully we will see iterations for the other big box Amigas with those features. Cheers 🍻
Woohoo! A new hardware vid! I love these! Especially since I don’t have the cash to make these type of videos anymore! lol! :)
Again, cool new video! The card sounds very interesting. Me and a friend are working on a new hardware for the 2000 as well. But for now, I am still repairing a C128 Rev. 7 - a beautiful machine. But has some serious problems with the extension port. Zimmerman had a similar problem, and it seems there are some issues with some of the logic chips. Working on it, while enjoying your videos! Thanks again!
I suddenly want an Amiga 2000!!
Great vid as always Dr Chris, I also enjoy the innuendo, keep doing what you're doing 👍
Thank you for explaining ram: in the DriveType.
Sounds like a tactical weapon 😅
LOL with a 400GB plus drive you could save everything ever published for the Amiga and still have space. I thought 120Gb storage was over kill :)
Great video thanks, I have myself also an Dicke Olga and it is one of the best A2000 030 turbo cards out there. ❤
The Olga looks very interesting!! 🤩👍🏻
good option for my Red A2000 pcb i done thanks mate
Looks like a awesome card
as always chris a fantastic vid
Thanks Chris excellent tutorial
Nice card!
😀
I love seeing new hardware for the Amiga platform. I always get in trouble with these because I never met a card I wouldn't buy. I will remained homed for the time being though because they are out of stock.
Nice video, thanks
Too bad you didnt have a B key drive. I was hoping to see the nvme drive function part of the review. My deluxe/advanced card from DJCook is stuck with DHL. Wish it was in avaliable in black like the 2000EATX PCB color. Cool card. Cool video. Hope the vacuum still works-didnt hear it in the background. Amigas have become an expensive hobby. Amazing what is coming out for the big boxes. I got in at the right time.
Now you've watched Chris's review (and very nice it is) why not watch mine. It has the NVME rocking its stuff. I think the two vids cover pretty much everything.
This is great option for those that feel that Pistorm is too far removed from the original hardware . I hope this succeeds and then one day we see the next version of this card with WiFi or even Ethernet.
Exactly. PiStorm is a (very good) emulator, this is a REAL accelerator, as they would have had back in the day. The modern IDE sauce is fine, because REAL 3.5 and even 2.4" drives tend to die these days, so the NVME does make sense. But if you DO have old kit, like a IDE/SATA CD-Rom your good. Great card :)
NVME or IDE, interesting choice
"Mona" in Italian in the Veneto region, is a term for the female sex. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dicke Olga is actually not prenounced as Dicky Olga but as Dick-Uh Olga. german for Fat Olga. great vid Chris.
‘Murica. Dickey. Hahaa
@@ChrisEdwardsRestorationBelieve it or not, UA-cam gave me the option to translate your ‘Murica.’ Comment and when I selected that, it translated to ‘Kill me. Dickey. Hahaha. (How did it turn ‘Murica to kill me?)
Nice very nice. I have to give this puppy a lot of thought because I like my A2K just the way it is but I would not mind looking for another A2k just to play with it and that card. I don't need another Amiga but I have the desire to play with that card. I will have to see if I can download the manual. Love to see new stuff for the Amiga. I have more fun adding things to bare Amiga's but once I have them the way I like I really don't like messing around with then all that much. Now I am looking around to see where I can put another Amiga yet I am about to retire the PC I currently use which takes up 4U worth of space in my rack so another A2K will fit nicely in that spot.
Well um um um I bought another A2K, supposed to be working but we shall see but once its working then I will try to get one of those cards.
you can never have too many.
New manual (with SATA/M.2 environment) was uploaded, please have a look on it...
It is SATA / M.2. not NVME / M.2. i love your channel about Amiga stuff.
yeah my brain is wired for nvme protocol naturally when i see a m.2 slot. haha
Did you have to add the crystal for the MMU? Also I was thinking of using the internall SATA port on the card for a CDRW SATA drive, did you try and see if that would work? It would be nice to see the benchmark of the SSD, though you forgot to add 300 buffers to it. And I am suprised you didn't run the demo of choice from spaceballs for fun! :)
Nope just worked perfect i guess thats if you want to clock it past 50. I test all ports and benchmarked it
No Crystal Oscillator needed if FPU runs on same frequency as CPU does...
You need it only if You want to let FPU run in asynchronous mode
dicke olga means fat olga
Chris as a Dickere Olga (fatter olga)
I wonder if there's an A500 version coming
Hey I did a review on this and in my research I found that the original card that inspired this one was actually an A500, A500+ and A2000 cpu slot accelerator. Its smaller of course, so It only supports IDE as I recall. Info on this is in my review.
Not even a little love/discount for your promotion here? Jan would be appalled.
Will do discount on second one 😂
@@8bitdreams810there you go, we’ll make an American out of you yet.😊
Hey Chris, do you as a person run at 60MHz? You do tons of work repairing Amiga's. (I'm just a humble 1 MHz processor, see my nickname MOS 6502.) By the way I really like your videos. I also collect Commodore stuff myself. Thanks for this video, I was already in the waiting list for a new batch of Fat Olga's. Love your UA-cam channel!
You can. But i dont. I have so many pimped machines this one at 50 is way better than the stock 7.16 it was.
Clearly I have lost track. What is the fastest accelerating Amiga you can make? What Dhrystones does it run?
Pimiga is 2500mhz via a rpi. My a4000 bfg9060 is 100 mhz 060r6. The purple a4000 is a 140mhz 040 z3660. So so many new things
29:08 How can we brighten up the LED? Happens on other modern devices too, like my PC XT CF ISA card.
Amiga is 5v that power is 3.3
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Chris, I noticed this in my review. It was so dim I assumed my LED was broken. Ill give it a try again. It is a pain if it is so dim you cant see it :/
You can try to replace LED resistors to smaller value. It is 270r currently, try 180r or something like that
I wasnt quite sure at then end, does it need/support M.2 NVME or is it M.2 SATA? i would imagine either is overkill speeds regardless.
its M.2 Sata, my brain is just wired to say nvme for the protocol whenever i see that slot. its all good
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration I originally thought the NVME route was a bit silly. But considering 128gb NVME cost maybe £16 now, its not so crazy. Also, there is no cable, so its VERY neat on the back of the card there. My NVME came with 4 wait-states, which can be changed via the MapRom Util in the boot sequence, I dropped mine to 3 and it still run stably with the NVME. However, IF you wish to play with WaitStates its best to do it early on, on a sacrificial partition as if you go to low/fast it can corrupt it.
Before the card is installed, it shows Agnus ECS Agnus at 1Meg. After the card is running, sysinfo shows ECS Agnus 2Meg. Does the card somehow add 1 Meg of Agnus?? Why I ask is that I ordered an Individual ACE2B from Germany. Was that a mistake?
Did not notice that. No its still 1mb chip
i Checked again at 16:42 on the olga it shows 1mb chip, idk why but sysinfo does display 2mb weird.
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Ok good to know. Thanks Chris!!
Sound? I hear no sound from the card.
Why not test the 60MHZ mode? I would love to see a 60MHZ 030, I wanted to OC my 030 to 60 back inte the days, I wonder if it would given doom one frame more per second.
I can but its fine at 50. I have so many pimped machines this ones fine where it is. A major improvement over the stock 7 mhz
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Mine came with 60mhz set, it did not boot. So I dropped it to 50mhz and it was fine. 8 Bit Dreams told me there are certain fixes for the A2000 board to get 60mhz to be stable. Personally, I cant be bothered to do all that work for extra 10mhz. Anyway, its fast enough at 50mhz! BTW, Maprom copies Kickstart into 32bit RAM and then re-boots, so first boot is always a bit slow. But now all calls to the ROM are from 32bit FAST ram and it makes Workbench super snappy. I really need to get this working on my A4000 to get the same juice.
I noticed my A4000T blinking the LED before letting me into the early boot menu. Have they done this on purpose? Wish they would stop messing with stuff for no reason. Also put the check mark back instead of the boing ball. Grrr.
Yup its supposed
To
nvme m.2 not sata
Nope, it's NGFF - SERIAL ATA (PCI EXPRESS doesn't work unfortunately - need other translator chip)
While I love the technical aspect of your channel and I really am an Amiga enthusiast, the sexual innuendo and sexual comments that you make I find fairly disgusting. I wish you could just keep it clean.
. Sorry you feel that way.
@@ChrisEdwardsRestorationA little innuendo is fine, it’s the loud porn moan sample that keeps me from watching the channel in public.
Haha thats the idea. That moan is mona. My wife.
