Okay hear me out. I know you love Harry Potter, and Percy Jackson is like the summer version cause 4/5 of them take place in the summer and they’re so nostalgic of growing up going to summer camp and it’s so magical and cute. And they’re all pretty quick reads too.

My jaw dropped when you said Luna can't stop eating cicadas. Does she usually eat bugs?? Does she eat them dead or alive or both?? I also love that you keep showing us Brian's sourdough loaves. At the beginning he said he was never going to do it again but still he keeps going and they all look amazing.
I'm loving all the book recommendations, I've started listening to audiobooks again because I can listen while I work and I'm having a lot of fun. I'm planning on listening to Demon Copperhead soon but it's a 21 hour listen so I need to pick the right time to start it.

I love getting new cozy book recommendations! I have an audio suggestion that might seem a bit out there, especially since it’s a podcast and a TTRPG.
Worlds Beyond Number’s main story arch of The Wizard, witch and wild one! It feels like listening to every type of Miyazaki movie. It’s cozy, breathtaking, at times deeply emotional, and a little scary. It’s also a bit more heightened with it being a D&D adjacent mechanic because sometimes the dice truly tell the story. All 4 performers are beyond amazing and gifted storytellers. Episodes are between 1-2 hours and right now there are 28 main story episodes out!

You’ve sold me on the Abby Jimenez book! Definitely going to check it out. I also couldn’t get into Happy Place, but I loved Book Lovers and Funny Story (haven’t read her others yet). Here are some of my favorite books I’ve listened to on audio: The Wall by Marlen Haushofer (written in the 60s, but you’d never guess it was that old. An invisible wall appears in the Austrian countryside overnight and a woman must figure out how to survive on her own. More feminist survival book than sci-fi. It’s dark, but so good). The Street by Ann Petry (another dark one, but probably the best-written book I’ve ever read. Written in 1946, this was the first book by a Black female author to sell one million copies! It’s about a mother and young son trying to get by in NY in the ‘40s. Felt like it could have been written yesterday). Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz (honestly don’t remember too many details about this one, but I really liked it and the narrator had a great, Stephen Fry-esque voice). The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery (a memoir all about learning about octopuses. So interesting!). The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson (very Downton Abbey!). I always have to listen to the audiobooks of David Sedaris’s books too, bc his voice is so unique. If you ever read middle grade, I also loved The Bridge Home by Padma Venkatramen. The author narrates her audiobooks and she has the most beautiful voice.

Some of my favorite audiobooks of all time are the Airborn series by Kenneth Oppel. They’re narrated by a full cast and have sound effects and music! The books definitely skew toward younger YA but if you’re looking for something light and fun, it would be a great choice (the first book is especially summery). I also really like the audiobooks for Roxy and Dry, written by Neal and Jarrod Shusterman. One deals with drug addiction in teens and the other a possibly drought reality, but are still YA so nothing ever gets super gruesome-just suspenseful in the best way!

I’m rereading Lord of the Rings also. It is not going well, I started like 2 years ago and am still not even to page 100. I reread books very slow as it is and I find Lotr very hard to read. Also, I am in the middle of the mistborn books by Brandon Sanderson. I finished the first series and am waiting for the next book in the following series. They’re really good but larger books

LOTR is definitely hard to read!! So many scenes with long descriptions of settings that they just.. walk by... and so many songs!!!

I struggled reading Lord of the Rings until I discovered the audiobook- I feel like Tolkien stories aren’t meant to be read with eyes and instead should be read to you aloud like a bed time story. Maybe changing the format might help since they are such a fun adventure!

I love hearing your thoughts on what you've read! Have you ever thought of making a Good Reads account? I love using it to review books and to read what my friends thought! Days at the Morisaki Bookshop was one of my favourite April reads. It wasn't challenging, it was easy to relax and enjoy and I'm looking forward to the sequel! I'm planning on reading Butter next, it's meant to be really good 🥰

I too loved Funny Story and disliked Happy Place! HP was sad and toxic. I work in publishing so Book Lovers really speaks to me lol. But BL is tied for my favorite with Funny Story now. ❤️

Don't know if you've ever read anything by Charlaine Harris, but I think you'd like the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries. They're cozy and fun. Haven't watched any of the (hallmark) movies made from them, but they're apparently very popular :)

i recently listened to the raven cycle by maggie stiefvater (after having devoured the books a few years ago), and i absolutely recommend them as a summer read or listen! ngl the audiobook was a little hard to get into for me bc the narration is a bit particular at first, but it is so worth sticking with because the books are honestly my favourite series of ya fiction. no one does magical realism like maggie stiefvater. all four books are free on spotify, as well as her two stand-alones 'the scorpio races' (my absolute favourite book for late autumn re-reads, and beautifully narrated as an audiobook), and 'all the crooked saints' (which i read a few years ago, and is honestly also a really good summer read - i haven't yet listened to the audiobook though).

Finding a book I want to read has become difficult. This summer I'm going to see if I can get back into reading by trying different genres and different authors. I'm going to start with "The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club" and go from there. I HOPE I can get back to going to my local library and start borrowing books again. Things kept happening in my life over the past few years, and reading for enjoyment just wasn't something I could spend energy on. So fingers crossed I can start again!!

I believe in your reading journey!!! We all go through seasons of heavy reading and light reading..... but the books will always be there when you're ready!
