You could also use a rubber band about 1/8th inch wide. Clip it the length you need and burn a small hole in the end to slip over the hook eye. This will prevent the rubber band from tearing. Seems this may be easier to work with. May could even use a small rubber band like those used with dental braces as well.

I'm an old retired Dentst and have been using ortho bands for years to make weedless hooks. They worked great. Thanks to Steve and the dollar store, now everyone can use this idea. An old Orthodontist friend showed ne this trick so I can't take credit for it.

Always compare prices with the manufacturer website. Amazon can be way overinflated prices.
Does this work only on a bigger fish since they can bite with harder pressure and therefore it will push the plastic down and get hook?
No, it works on small ones as well. The band is not that tight. You can make it even looser if you need to by using a smaller hook for less tension.

Try taking a smaller line (4lb line) cut a small piece about 6-8 inches, run the cut line through the piece you're trying to put through the hook eye, take both ends then run it through the hook eye, and pull it through, much easier. Good luck.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the octopus hook which is meant to slide until it reaches the closed mouth of the fish?
I have not seen that since these rubber bands are not really strong. Maybe a light bite might be missed, but a hard hitting bass or, here inshore, a redfish would still get hooked.
Can you do a video making a Bucktail become weedless? 😭
