    A comparison video between various diffusion filters would be amazing. If you will decide to do it make sure to test as many various filters as you can. Pearlescent, glimmer glass, black promist, promist, satin, black diffusion, low con, Hollywood black magic and so on.

    Another nice feature is rain protection. I shot for hours in light rain today and my small rig mini matte box kept the lens totally dry.

    Very informative video. I am not planning to get a arri mattebox but for general knowledge this kind of videos are fun to watch. I am actually having tilta mini mattebox but I am putting it on just sometimes when in use with my canon Fd lenses because they like to flare a lot. Thanks Jake.

      Hey Ondrej, First off thanks for watching glad it was a good watch! I wanted the vid to cover the principles of what makes up a matte box so people could apply it to lower end ones also, hopefully it does! Again, thanks for watching! Jake

    great video - im racking my brain trying to find a solution for a 117mm diameter red pro 300mm prime to get my Tilta matte box to work on it. Any tips? Are the donut rings flexible enough to stretch a 114 up to 117mm?

    Thanks a lot. How do you protect the surface your lens (scratching the lens), when you put on the matte box? Let' say a 95mm matte box on a 95 mm lens - (so no step up rings needed)

  • @clifftotten7609

    You touched on this only for a moment early in your video and then never went back to it. It's extremely important to discuss in detail how a large matt box makes you look on set. The "sexy-ness" that a huge matt box brings to your rig is what makes your client belive they are getting their money's worth. It makes your camera look much more expensive and gives you instant credability. This is one of the important secondary functions of a large mattbox. You cant just "be" a good DP that produces great content. You must "look" good on set while you are doing it. The only exception would be if your client was not there or nobody was watching you.

    • @blackbird8837
      @blackbird8837 2 роки тому +4

      he only touched on this, because that seems to be the main arguemtn from other "UA-camrs" to get one. And as this video explains, there's far more to them than that.

    • @clifftotten7609
      @clifftotten7609 2 роки тому +1

      @@blackbird8837 I can only say is that there is nothing more important then making your camera look more expensive then it really is. As camera guy insiders, we are never impressed because we know what's going on. But, to "non-camera" people?.....a big, fat matt box will properly impress and even dazzle them. This tactic deserves it's own video. Maybe it can be called: "How to look good on set and give a Hollywood impression".

    • @blackbird8837
      @blackbird8837 2 роки тому +2

      @@clifftotten7609 I get what you're saying - here's why I disagree. When you show up for the shoot 2 things have already happened: the client has hired u and you have negotiated a price for your work. So whom you will impress is your next clients with whatever you are going to come up on THAT shoot. And then I would argue to improve your look spending money somwhere else before a mattbox makes more sense.
