I am working on an excerpt with a lot of staccato (at first I thought they were spicatto..lol!). Your video again saved me from hours of incorrect practicing. I hope you never stop making these videos as I found them the most helpful compared to the others on YT. Thank you so much!!
I am trying to teach myself upbow staccato and your video again has been tremendously helpful. If you are still making videos and it's not too much trouble to ask - would you mind showing us some tricks and tips for playing upbow staccato, especially off the string? Thanks a ton! Edit: I just realized that my last comment on this video was 2 months ago. Ha, and here I am still trying to figure out staccatos....lol
I'm guessing you're working on the standard up bow staccato. In which case you want the bow to be slightly higher than balance point. Middle would be a good place to start. Start by adding little index pressure followed by a small hand (wrist) follow through when you release the pressure for the up bow stroke. It should feel slightly like you're trying to play a normal up bow but your index pressure is holding you in place and only when it releases will you actually get an up bow staccato.
@@undergroundvirtuosos1873 OMG thank you so much for responding so quickly! I am definitely going to try your tips this afternoon - they make so much sense! One more question if you don't mind, any tips on how to play fast and slured up bow staccato? For example: I am praciticing Gavotte by Becker (Suzuki Book 3), starting bar 11.
Those staccato in m.11 should be done mid bow to balance point. The 4 staccato should be done in a small area of the bow. Try the method I mention before but only stay in one place on the bow instead of actually playing to the frog try 4 up bows staying only at the balance point. Sometimes it feels more like lifting (after playing a staccato note) and just letting the bow fall back down in the same spot to repeat the stroke as many time as you want.
@@undergroundvirtuosos1873 Thank you so much again for the thorough explanation. After a few attempts, I am finding it challenging to try to keep the bow in one place. Well guess this is what I'll be practicing for the rest of this year and beyond 😂 Really appreciate you taking the time to share your teaching for free 🙏 We are super lucky to have you on UA-cam!
Una explicación muy, muy clara! Muchas gracias, Paul!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💜🎶💜🎻

Would a player play off the string naturally at the end of a phrase?
If the music calls for it, then yes.
