I used to use these cards until I beat this guy who used the Seal of Orichalcos and then they just suddenly disappeared out of nowhere.
Something you neglected to mention about the Hermos Fusions is that the equip effects are mandatory. If you don't have a monster on board and your opponent does, the Fusion equips to an opponent's monster instead. That's why I consider Hermos to be the worst of the three by far.
Orga777 Not only that, because said effects are mandatory and they're all full nomi, the only way you can actually Summon them in monster form is into a completely empty board.
But it is kinda playable in a "Buster Blader"-deck....I mean the deck revolves around equipping anyway and the "Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword" is pretty much the essence of the "Buster Blader".
Edit: Also by including "Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm" and one "Supreme King Gate" you have access to the whole range of fusions.
Who said it was good? I simply said that Hermos serves its function in it.
It's pretty good in dragunity(but only because the entire archetype literally revolves around equip).

What I like about season Waking the Dragons is when Kaiba wore his throwback-purple coat and beat my favorite biker from that season, Allister and played the Fang of Critias. One of the top memories of that arc for me.

I use a Hermos and Red Eyes Black Dragon Sword in my Dragunity deck. Since dragunity monsters have good effects on their own, a power boost really ends up helping
If you would read the fang of critias, you don’t have to play the trap in order to fusion it. You can use the traps from the hand
Timeaus is very playable in a dark magician deck. I love playing it in mine. Really makes the deck more diverse, considering how good and consistent a DM deck is. It’s an easy way to get some spot removal, or protect the many magic and trap cards that essentially run the deck from targeting or destruction, specifically DM the dragon knight. DMG is good for spot removal, since I can easily discard cards that can again be recycled within the normal course of a game. So, it’s very playable in a modern format.
Critias was Kaiba's dragon. Case closed, it's the best.

You can also search Mirror Force with Mirror Force Launcher and Lilith, Lady of Lament.
you should not be searching for the card you need. just really on the heart of the cards...sometimes you might even pull a card that wasn't even in your deck

If only Timeaus was searchable in the Dark Magician deck....
You can put him atop your deck with Dark Circle. Then even Upstart Goblin it once you've placed it there.
Funny thing is, thanks to Eternal Soul, it pretty much can lock the field(the Dark Magician Dragon). Its name counts as Dark Magician, thus it can't be targeted, and is unable to be destroyed by card effects(due to Eternal Soul). It's effect protects Back row entirely. Now all you need is Mist Body, and then the only way to win is damage. So... Dora Trains win, I guess...
And actually, can't Magician's Rod search it upon flip? MR searches a card with "Dark Magician" in it's text, thus making Timeaus searchable.

I think Eye of Timaeus is the most used since it's become a support card for Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl themed decks, me being one of them... Been a huge fan of the spellcaster/Magician archtype since the beginning of Yu-Gi-Oh

Actually Eye Of Timaeus is still very useful. Yes it’s only usable in the Dark Magician deck but it now brings out DM The Dragon Knight who can make an unbreakable board. Eternal Soul + DM The Dragon Knight means only Evenly Matched or destroyed battle can stop the board. And DM TDK is 3000 atk. So not an easy feat. Also DM decks are still to this day very solid decks and can potentially compete against meta and win thanks to Cosmo Brain, Mana Dragon and Windwitch supports.
You guys did today very right. Worthwhile information, but presented in a manner to fit the occasion. Well done.

Hermos when combined with another monster card is an equip weapon card, Timeaus when fused with a dark Magician type card is a knight, and critias when fused with a trap card is a dragon

Well tbh dark magician decks aren't exactly competitively viable to begin with. But yeah if you were playing a dark paladin deck and had an additional searchable polymerization, it would help a lot.
Right now tho, it still helps in a dark paladin deck but it's just like a 1 off card you randomly stick in and might draw into.
Still running 3 polymerizations and 3 king of the swamps overall instead tho.
Actually with cards like magician rods and there cards used to search spell cards with Dark magician in the text. An Dark Magician deck can be good depending on the cards
I used an dark magician deck and have an Eye of Timaeus it actually a good card depending on what you use . I won a few duels using it and Added my own spin to it

Because in the current state, to be competitive you need a "combo" that consists on playing any one card (yep, thats a combo now) to give your deck diarrhea over the field.
to be fair, your opponent would probably surrender if there was actually diarrhea on the field.
nah, you just need your cards to not be useful only in the very specific ideal situation in which it wins you the game. The current state of the game doesn't help, granted, but even disregarding that, if you draw, say critias, and don't have a corresponding trap in your hand or on the field, you have a dead card that is only good for discard fodder. No matter how you look at it, it will never be worth playing instead of a card that may be much less powerful but will still be able to do something for you on its own, or even just playing the vanilla card that was already doing okay stuff. Vanilla Mirror force can't nuke the entire field five times per turn and shave a third of your opponent's LPs, but you can set it and try to resolve it no matter what else you have in your hand or your field.
And that's only working on the assumption the base card actually is useful. If you're running two bad cards that have no use spearately in the hope they will combo into something good, you're doing something wrong.
A good combo doesn't necessarily consist of only one card, but it consists of cards that can still actually do stuff if you don't draw the perfect hand at the perfect time. That is true as of now, it was true before synchros came out, it was true at any point of the game.
The issue wouldn't be so problematic if those cards were searchable, so the times you want them, you can get them easily, and the times you don't want them, you can use the searching card for something else.
Hermos is very viable in dragon decks
Disacarding a specific unsearchable card while the card has no effect on its own is Indeed "too much" setup. If you're talking about hermos, the problem is just that none of his fusion are impactful enough to be worth playing, with the sole exception of red eyes sword in dragon decks. And while it is cool to do in dragon decks for the ridiculous power boost it gives, this card is only as good as the rest of your board is. If you're in a position to resolve it and it's impactful, chances are you were doing alright already.
I run the eye of timaeus all the time and it isn't hard to get dark magician... if you run a dark magician deck you might as well have a lot of ways to summon or put him in your hand and it is pretty easy to get him with timaeus. Just use a card like illusion magic and put 2 copies if dark magician in your hand... easy. Also you get get the eye of timaeus by using magicians rod. But I prefer to use it to get eternal soul. Which btw if you combine with dark magician the dragon night it's an amazing combo because neither your spwll/traps or you dark magicians can be destroyed by card effects and dark magician the dragon nights name becomes dark magician on the field or grave do you can just keep bringing him back with eternal soul. The deck doesn't run slow if you make a good one.

Those cards being printed actually got me to rewatch season 4 in subbed and made me like the arc a lot more than when I was a kid. I really like those, especially critias, but even at my casual level I ran into the exact issues you described : even just running critias for mirror force dragon just hurts the consistency of the deck and even if it resolves, while it is awesome and horribly hard to stop since it can trigger itelf several times per turn and in response to cards that would negate an effect like breakthrough skill, it still loses to everything that doesn't target like raigeki, or ironically, vanilla mirror force, or just get solemn'd.
Just sad you didn't talked about Timaeus, knight of destiny while you're at it . but thanks for the video anyway !
I use Fang of Critias in my Glad Beast deck and it does work out pretty well.

Yeah, i'm a Dark Magician Player, Eye Of Timaeus is the most Important card aside Eternal Soul and Dark Magical Circle because Dark Magician The Dragon Knight is also treated as Dark Magician so my Eternal Soul can protect him too, and My Eternal Soul also cannot be destroyed so when Dark Magician The Dragon Knight Destroyed i can Special Summon it again using the Eternal Soul and free up my Extra Deck Monster Zone
Try using 3x Keeper of Dragonic Magic and 2x Poly

The Black Dragon Sword in a Red-Eyes deck is actually really broken. It opens the gate for an easy otk for the cost of 1 card (claw of hermos) and 1 red eyes, which having it in your graveyard isn't a bad thing.
These are the cards that got me buying mad cards for collection purposes. Gonna be awhile before I have all the ones I want, but it’s mad fun coming home and having a new card in the mailbox.

I also play Egyptian Gods, but I had to make a really complicated set to get then out and it only works about 60% of the time and thats againsy my friends who aren't playing "Meta" cards.

While I understand everyway you are coming with this I happily use all 3 decks in my games. I will agree that they have their faults they are very fun to use as long as you have a good opponent(s) as in one who isn't "salty" due to a win or loss. Overall I think it comes down to playstyle and the atmosphere of battle. Besides that Cimoooo you are an awesome youtuber and I love how knowledgeable you are at yugioh. Many people give up on this game but you don't and you keep the community strong. Thank you

Also, in my Red-Eyes kinda Hopeless Dragon-like deck (or in any Dragon-type oriented deck), Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword can created some crazy fun OTKs with monsters having more than 10,000 ATK. This + Borrelsword Dragon could be extremely nasty.... If Hermos was searchable.

I have used the Fang of Critias in a Dinosaur Chaos MAX deck, but the main target was always Tyrant Burst Dragon for Chaos MAX then you can have Chaos MAX attack three times for duel, it was so much fun, in fact that is still usable now.

This was pretty good Doug, I enjoy these cards in casual decks to help make random fringe plays even though they're pretty bad. This sort of video is a surprise though considering you're *not a pack opening channel,* I was expecting a Kaiba Collection opening

I would run critias and hermos in a red-eyed fusion deck and heres why. 1. All dragon monsters so dragon sword can be obtained as soon as you have the card. Also yes I have equipped a black dragon sword with a black dragon sword. 2. Theres a red-eyed fusion monster that prevents your opponent from activating ANYTHING when it attacks or is attacked. Make it a big beat stick. 3. With a couple traps you might play anyways you can add lots of protection to your already powerful monsters.
Pretty good points. And the legendary knights take this a few steps further. Pretty neat effects, they just require quite a bit of set up and giving up a lot of resources to pull off.
I find that in a duel links red eyes deck, it might be beneficial to run a copy of claw of hermos. Given most other decks tend to run high ATK beatsticks that your boss monster (red eyes slash dragon) can’t easily run over, that boosted attack from red eyes black dragon sword is significantly stronger in that regard, as most of the deck is about getting materials in the graveyard. Easy attack buffs reaching into the 5000’s.
