I bought a 2023 Passport late last year and it was a great step down from my Sienna. I DID NOT want 3 rows or drop down to something as small as a CRV and this was a great fit. It’s not fancy, but I feel when you compare this to the Korean cousins as you call them, those have lots of bells and whistles, but everyone I know who has one hasn’t had them last long, usually about 100k. Honda’s are generally bulletproof, so while not super flashy, they last forever. I think that is what you pay for. My Sienna had 172,000 miles when I passed it to a family member and it is still going strong. I’ll take substance over style any day…..and physical buttons!
which one are the cousins, comparable from Korea, etc with this cargo area Passport has? im interested, i need the cargo area for special needs family member items
100k miles divided by average of 12k miles a year is 8 years. I personally feel like any car that goes to 100k miles reliably is a win. The Korean cousins also have a 100k / 10 yr warranty. I personally can’t imagine keeping the same vehicle for up to 8-10 years yet alone longer honestly. I’m good with about 5 or 6 years and move on as to stay in the sweet spot of routine maintenance and not have to deal with the hassle of when the sudden and more impactful vehicle repairs start to become a factor. Lately I’ve switched vehicles about once every 3 years. First I wanted to go to a fuel efficient hybrid, then I jumped on an electric, then had a baby and needed a larger vehicle, then the bank made me get rid of a car payment to buy a home and a second kid on the way requiring an even larger vehicle on the other side of home purchase. My wife drives only BMWs and we have learned not to keep them past 75k miles. That’s when they start getting pricy to repair. By My point is that the Korean cousins seem to be doing just fine on an acceptable level of reliability as of late bolstered by the best and longest warranty out there. There’s plenty of people out there not concerned with extreme long term reliability of a vehicle.
Korean cars are having problems easily stolen and can spark a fire anytime. Tellurides are asked to be parked outside because they can spark a fire. Till they can figure out how to correct it.
I find it very entertaining every time Andrea floors the test models. The look on Zack’s face and holds on for dear life is so funny. All in fun 😂 Love your videos, keep it up 👍 🥂♥️♥️
Years ago, a friend took me off-roading with a 1rst/2nd(?) generation Honda Passport (based on the Isuzu Rodeo). It was actually pretty impressive (off-road), despite it’s cheap plasticy and thin-metal feel. What a difference this new Passport is! But then again… this latest price reflects that. Thanks for the video.
Perfect road trip car! The CRV has ample space for 4 ppl, but when you have a 5th person in the rear middle seat, the Passport's width is super useful. Curious to see when this will be refreshed/replaced based on the new Pilot (exterior, interior, infotainment including wireless AA/AC).
The CRV has a tiny engine. If your a couple with no kids at home anymore, this vehicle is the perfect size. I came from an F150 and to be honest don’t miss the size of the truck. I bought the Trailsport version and so far very happy with it. Smooth, powerful and very quiet vehicle.
I often transport 2 giant breed dogs and the third row laying down leaves to many holes area where they can get a foot stuck, and in case of quick stop a broken leg. I am on my second Passport. They are great.
Happy Saturday Guys !!, I think you look nice in the Passport very comfy, like the interior not many hard plastic, the back sit well thanks to Zack every time thumb up is ok for me too. I like it, Thank You Guys, love your presentations your the best as a couple, have a wonderful day.
I just picked up a black 2024 Passport Trailsport, it's exactly what a wanted, 2 row, V6 9spd lots of room, I was sadly surprised to see NO brake hold..and no power folding mirrors but other than that I love it, watching you from north of Toronto Canada 🇨🇦
@@KenStarkey no button there to push for the power folding mirrors... I wish, Canadian model has rear heated seats and the rear climate controls that you see on the Black Edition, I absolutely love it, I will be putting together a video on my 2024 Passport Canadian model soon 👍
For the complaints on no wireless Apple CarPlay I bought a $35 adapter on Amazon it works a charm. Love this vehicle only had it a month but man coming from an F150 truck it wasnt a significant change in interior room.
I want one especially the v6 automatic transmission this suit my bill exactly Nothing drives like a Honda they’re just fabulous and I live also the Ridgeline
Just purchased the black edition and love everything about it. My only issues revolve around auto car play and honda link....neither work with my phone.
I have a 2020, only update I see is the centre arm rest (which is a good thing) but not enough to keep me in one when lease is up. Guess I’m headed back to VW for an Atlas
We can count on you for excellent reviews! I think there's a significant mid-size SUV buyer base that doesn't even use their 2nd row more than a couple of times a year - let alone a 3rd row. Why spend for a 3-row when it will never ever be in the up position during the life of the car?
Yes I have a 2014 Honda crv and looking to replace it. I don’t want or need a 3 row but I love a roomier/larger car for safety and larger cargo area. Looking at this and the VW cross sport
Impressive video! So much more useful info than the other guys. You all covered all the bases. I traded an Audi Q5 that had175K miles for the Top trim level Passport and have never looked back. OK, I do miss the power folding mirrors. I agree with everything you said though I find the top end power on the V6 but the acceleration to get there seems a bit sluggish to me. I was stunned there is no wireless option for Car Play, What? The production people dropped the ball on that one! The one thing you mention that the sales person didn't show me nor did any of the other reviews cover is the second row seatis having the ability to slide forward and back. Also, I think the key less remote has some nice differentiated features like remote auto start with the heat/cool option. Also the motion sensor rear hatch release comes in handy. You got me, I'm now a subscriber!
Good job Zack explaining Product Planner decisions that sometimes results in lost of frustrations for potential customers and can even ruin all the good engineering work done...
Excellent review, as always 😊 IMO I believe that Honda is still being greedy, as having a surround-view camera isn’t that expensive, given entry level SUVs have them these days. I currently have a newer pathfinder, which has all of the missing items that were mentioned in the review, is the same price as a passport, and better fuel economy, 3rd low down 95% of the time except when we need it. The passport doesn’t really put up a strong fight with its current price and offerings … 3 row alternative for similar price is the way to go.
It's a great truck. I have a 2023, and with that, I don't need the new 4Runner. The second row is very roomy, and it has great cargo space. It's a perfect family (5 persons) hauler. 🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Zack - the VCM has been plagued by many reliability, longevity and oil consumption issues for years. In Odyssey’s and Pilots. It’s so bad there are several third party products available to deactivate it. I know you never say bad things about products and manufacturers, which is a shortcoming of your reviews. But the VCM is definitely there to achieve higher EPA mileage numbers at the expense of long term ownership satisfaction and particularly engine longevity and performance.
This is one vehicle I am highly interested in but, I will wait for the 2025 version... there is supposed to be a completely new update... it probably will have a newer and bigger screen with wireless Android auto and Apple carplay and more off-road capabilities for the Passport TrailSport model, which I am interested in.
My thoughts exactly - surprised Zach & Andrea didn't mention this. The new one should be a bit more stylish, same features as the Pilot, and possibly the new 10-speed transmission as well. I'd only buy one of these if Honda offered steep discounts (and I doubt they will).
When I picked up my 23 Pilot TrailSport in April last year I was expecting it to have a 360 camera, but I was told it wasn’t included in Canada. However, I don’t think the Pilot TrailSport in the US gets heated rear seats, which the Canadian model has. Different priorities for different markets I guess.
If you dont need a 3rd row... in the PIlot if you hide the 3rd row the cargo area is smaller than the Passport cargo area, correct? so if you dont need a 3rd row... why would you buy the pilot? any plus aside of that?
FWIW, I had a Grand Cherokee, I wanted to replace. Looked at a lot of 5 passenger suns, most had seats too soft and too small, wings pressing on my hips and hitting my shoulder blades. I went in to Honda to look at the CRV and it was too small in the front felt a little confined, seats were too small, uncomfortable. Passport was just right, even roomier than my cherokee.
The passport slots in at the size of the Grand Cherokee which is the perfect size for me and my 2 kid family. I don’t want something as small as a crv, and don’t need a 3rd row like the pilot.
Honda should have hybridized this platform long time ago. Honda engineers think only their engine will carry them to 25th century. Anyways, good review guys.
Wow the interior infotainment seems very dated for the price, it seems Honda gets complacent every few years until competition pushes them forward. Love your videos!
Lots of space, nice V6, Honda reliability. Looks like a solid choice in the class. Wireless phone sync and a bit more updated tech (larger screen, 360 camera, etc) would be a nice add, and I still much prefer a regular shifter, but overall a nice vehicle.
Nice review. Good vehicle but Honda is pricing itself out of my market anyway! I have owned Hondas for a very long time now, but my next vehicle I will be looking elsewhere.
I love the V6 my 2022 highlander has the V6 I am so sad they have gone away with it because the V6 is buttery smooth the 4 cylinder is growly the 4 cylinder is great but I prefer the V6 as personal preference.
Like me, the Pilot has gotten a bit on the beefy side. I don't need a third row and like the easier maneuverability of a smaller vehicle. Lord knows the 3.5L V-6 is a well-proven powerplant by now. I also like the lower placement of the touch screen.
With the numerous serious recalls with Honda/Acura for last generation models, I’m more serious to now consider other manufacturers as my next vehicle.
Most reviews of owners state fuel management delivers almost no increase in mileage while GM and Ram are abysmal failures with well documented engine failures
I own a 2019 Passport and like it very much. I do however hate the push button transmission. I won't buy another unless they go to a traditional shifter. Guess I am Waiting to see what 2025 brings.
While having good bones, Honda is neglecting many other niceties. My list of gripes are: It needs the new Android Automotive system, better front seat adjustments and massaging option, console mounted stalk-shifter, elimination of all of that gaudy, shiny, black plastic, 360° degree camera system, a more masculine-looking exterior, larger and more modern infotainment system, improve the lane assist (from what I’d last heard, it’s not that great), and I’m sure I’ll think of some other minor stuff. Honda is working hard to keep me from buying the Passport. Also, when they create these upscale editions, they should actually improve something substantial. Let’s see what next year brings. But I have a feeling that at least SOME disappointment lurks around the corner.
That is why Acura exists. It is called a segment. “Entry level segment”. “Luxury segment”. If Honda had messaging seats it could raise the price for middle class families to resort to only driving used cars. If you want the luxury then look at something other than a Honda lol
I know about Acura, I once owned one. Interestingly, Hyundai and Kia seem to be able to upscale their offerings, so I’d disagree with your perspective on that. Then, if you want to go with a luxury model, you take it up a notch to Genesis. Even Toyota is more advanced these days, and they’re very slow at adopting the extras. I’d like to see at least some options available. That way those who wish to pay a bit more, can.
This SUV is a holdover from the previous gen Pilot with the SOHC V6 and 9-speed transmission. My guess is they sell it for another year or two and then drop it from the lineup. Or if its future is tied to that of the Ridgeline, maybe they both shrink to CR-V size and get the Bronco Sport treatment, styling-wise. Honda desperately needs to get more reasonably-priced product into the lineup.
This is boring but super reliable. My Mom is 70 and this is a great truck for her. She has a 22 Elite, the tech is easy for her to use and she lives at the lake and the AWD works great.
When I will be ready to change my Mitsubishi Outlander next year or the one after, perhaps the new gen of the Passport will be here and I hope the Trailsport trim will offer the same value as the this one. I always wanted the Outback but this one is convincing me more and more especially when it comes to space, reliability and I want to avoid this Subaru do it all touch screen...
Got my new 2024 Passport TrailSport edition 3 weeks ago and, like Andrea, could not beleive that I had to use a USB cable for Android Auto. 😲😳 We are in 2024... Called the dealer to complain about this and they will buy me a dongle. As for the rest, it's exacly what we wanted to haul our new camper.
@@theobserver9565 Thanks for the info. We knew about it and we plan to have it installed even if our camper will be very light. Still did not get my dongle...
I suppose once someone has a vehicle with weirleds CarPlay/ android auto you really wouldn’t want to go back. And I guess it’s also just kind of the principle of it on having it in 2024 for the high price
Good review. Our family consist of me, wife and two wiener dogs. So If I purchased a Pilot, I would end up tearing out the 3rd row seats on the first day and never use them and throw away an extra 5K. NO thanks. . Second, the turbo 2.0 seems peppy but can it tow 2 jet skis to the lake? Nope Offroading? I would have purchased a Forerunner, a very dated vehicle, but certainly the OG for offroading. Lastly, I keep wondering when we needed a 360 camera on our vehicles? If people are not aware of their surroundings, they shouldn't be driving. I completely agree wireless AA or carplay should be there. At the end of the day, I plug it in. Big whoop. It does what I need it to do, its practical. And I like to see a review of a Korean vehicle with 200K miles with the original engine and tranny in tact! Yeah that isn't going to happen, right? Honda and Toyota have issues, I agree. I'll take proven longevity vs bells and whistles. My practically thinks the middle screen is perfect. The pad middle screen on many cars is gonna be stupid $$$ to replace once a warranty expires. So the regular gas is great. This SUV isn't gonna break any records for quickness but the V6 is a proven engine and NO CVT. Huge bonus. 24 Passport Blk Edition Metallic Red love the color. My wieners love the back room with the seats down.
@@Motormouth... As an older Canadian L/100 doesn’t mean much to me. I would prefer to know how many miles I can go on a gallon. An imperial one as a Canadian. So I wanted to be sure which one you were referring too. Thanks
Yes it’s the buttons under the center mirror. Easy to program hold the button your using and the garage door opener at the same time. It blinks green and you’re done.
Confused between Ford edge & this passport. Reliability of passport overshadows better driving & peppy edge. Edges centre screen also looks ugly. If someone can shed some light as to which car is better to own.

I am just starting to look for a new car (time to replace my 2011 ELEMENT). I thought this was a great option. But do I wait for the 2025?
Likes: nice styling; no CVT
Dislikes: push button transmission: timing belt; no 360 degree camera; no hybrid
This is boring but super reliable. My Mom is 70 and this is a great truck for her. She has a 22 Elite, the tech is easy for her to use and she lives at the lake and the AWD works great.
What does your retired mother need such a giant vehicle for? Going to the mall and getting coffee at drive thrus?
It's rated to tow 3500lbs unless you buy and have installed the transmission cooler.
@@theobserver9565 Thanks for the info. We knew about it and we plan to have it installed even if our camper will be very light. Still did not get my dongle...
I would take the Passport because of no third roll. Gives you more cargo room.
It’s weird that the current CRV is still considered a compact suv.
D O N G L E
I suppose once someone has a vehicle with weirleds CarPlay/ android auto you really wouldn’t want to go back. And I guess it’s also just kind of the principle of it on having it in 2024 for the high price
Looks way better than ANY Nissan. Probably built better than most Toyotas.
Are you goung to do a Nautilus review?
Which trim in Canada has rear heated seats?
Honda Passport 2025 will be redesigned but will retain the V6. Not switching to hybrid yet.
VCM is disabled in sports mode.
Its time for redesign so i can purchase. Honda dont mess it up
The 2024 Honda Passport is missing many upgrades for its price point, I hope the 2025 would be a lot better.
You realize once the remodel comes out, if Honda doesn’t kill it, the cost will jump a lot.
Wait and see
So, is the miles per gallon US or Imperial (Canada)?
Canada is metric, but US gallon
@@Motormouth... As an older Canadian L/100 doesn’t mean much to me. I would prefer to know how many miles I can go on a gallon. An imperial one as a Canadian. So I wanted to be sure which one you were referring too. Thanks
@@Motormouth... By the way. Do you calculate the actual L/100 or do you take the cars word for it?
@@parkland4530 We post the official government numbers.
Dang. This is a lot of missing features but i want the engine. I hate the hybrid/turbo crap.
Rectangle lights please. I'd choose the Lexus as well.
It's out of door 50k so I would buy 2-3 yrs old German brands Audi sq5 , bmw m40i , or q5 , even BMW x5 m40i 2021 25k millage right ? Enjoy the drive.
Make the tailgate a swinging door like the ridgeline, and a hybrid 30 MPG+
Garage door opener???
Yes it’s the buttons under the center mirror. Easy to program hold the button your using and the garage door opener at the same time. It blinks green and you’re done.
Confused between Ford edge & this passport. Reliability of passport overshadows better driving & peppy edge. Edges centre screen also looks ugly. If someone can shed some light as to which car is better to own.
