May I suggest letting players keep some of the puzzle elements after they've been used? I found the tickle gun and the laser puzzle extremely helpful for visualizing the space I was in and it's a shame you have to lose them!
Seconded, I'd love a sandbox mode
I agree!
@@devinward461 he give shit what you like or not
Waaaaaant! ^^
It's a very solid and cool move to open-source your engine with MIT license. Kudos! ❤
It's using xna you can decompile
@@dr.angerous It's in unity... XNA is a totally different framework
but both do use C#, which - unless the game is being built with IL2CPP and converted to native asm - is indeed pretty easy to decompile.
I can't give you enough praise for releasing the source code of the engine. Once things like bump maps and more complex movement are put into the mix by other creators, there's no telling what kind of wacky and cool-looking non-Euclidean games will come out of it.
Hyperbolica is easily my favorite game of at least the season, if not the year!
It has introduced me into the whole hyperbolic games genre, and even inspired me to make one myself!
Keep up the good work, and hopefully more fun projects and updates will come in the future!
Oh also, I am so glad to be part of the translation team :D
I promise I will do my best !
Spherical geometry farm literally blew my mind
@@Guitareben Yeah I couldn't wait to see it ever since he showcased it in that devlog! I wanted to see more of it, like perhaps another level. Maybe sometime in the future...
The game was honestly one of the best gaming experiences I've had in a while. I mean the dialogue and story are solid, but the experience of walking through a world that is so fundamentally different from anything I have ever seen is just amazing. No game has ever managed to disorient me in such a enjoyable way. Having followed these devlogs has definitely helped me appreciate many of the smaller things. I probably won't be replaying it a ton, but whenever i have a guest over, you can be pretty certain i'll at least bring it up.
Do you think you'll try it in VR someday?
VR hyperbolica will be the number 1 cause of motion sickness
As someone whos played it, it can be a trip
It's honestly a lot better than I thought it might be.
Admittedly I'm very resistant to VR induced nausea but it's not even as bad as Windlands (the only game that's actually given me any nausea).
I felt sick playing Hyperbolica the other day... and it wasn't even in VR! These things mess with my mind. But it's so fun!
It's been absolutely incredible watching the progress with this game and finally being able to play it. Really enjoying it, and you truly are breaking some revolutionary ground with this engine. Fantastic work, and looking forward to what your future projects entail.
I was just checking your other videos an hour ago to see if there were any updates. To my surprise, its funny and incredible to see "uploaded 42 seconds ago" on my main youtube page after checking earlier today. I am incredibly happy you've decided to upload the source code to this "hyperbolic engine"! It's something I'd really hope you'd do. Sincerely, someone who 100%'d hyperbolica in the first day :)
Hyperbolica is one of my favorite games of all time, I can't wait to see what else you've got in store
When I came back to Hyperbolica after a few days I completely forgot what I was supposed to do - I was running around quite a bit until I found my thread again. Maybe some kind of quest log book could be useful - a list for all your current goals and jobs. You really did a great job on the project as a whole. People can extend on the idea - you shared your source and you're allowing people to play with it - you offer the game on steam AND DRM-free - you even offer your Soundtrack via band camp. Not to mention the bugfixes, VR improvements and all the love you're putting into it. Very well done! Big Kudos!
It's so awesome watching this grow from concepts, papers, and research into a fully fledged tangible game that anyone can interact with. Excited to see more!
I loved Hyperbolica! I'm so glad I was subbed when you started the project and got to see all your progress leading to the release. Great Job!
alright, time to get hyperbolica! thanks so much for vr support, wouldn't have gotten it without it
What a great way to cause madness, this will be a lovecraftian experience in the most intuitive way possible
Making the engine code freely available is a massive bro move - can’t wait to play the game once I find the time!
I really do appreciate the wmr support. I know our headsets are less than 1% of the market share but there are people still out there using them and appreciating them who love to see support in a game. Also really loved the game as whole.
Do you like the experience of WMR? I really want to get into VR but I'm also fascinated by AR and feel like it's more useful for non-gaming.
@@nikosv7230 mixed reality has no ar capabilities whatsoever that was all cut before launch. It only works as a vr headset. If what you want is a vr headset though wmr is definitely not the best platform for the price
For the Quest standalone release, to help with motion sickness, I’d love either of these:
- Teleportation option
- Flatscreen mode, like Minecraft VR’s “virtual living room” toggle, so we can pop in and out of VR during a playthrough
This absolute madlad really just open sourced the the backend of this game he's spent years developing. Why can't big companies do stuff like this.
Wow, that’s amazing you’re sharing your non-euclidean code. Thats great.
Congrats @CodeParade on the launch! Well done.
CodeParade you are one of my heroes! I admire how you persevered through this project while juggling the duties of family life at the same time. Seriously, man, I have drawn inspiration from you.
Bought the game, after saw that you share the source code of your Unity Engine Improvement. I will not use it (do not like unity), but still appreciate your effort, your modern way of thinking and contribution to the community! Thank You, and Good luck in future projects!
mit license, so shoehorn the code into your favorite engine lol
The best game I have ever played. Thanks!
Thank you so much for adding smooth turn
I really liked this game, I love games that allow people to really get a gut feeling for alternative geometries. One thing that I think it missed out on was that the spaces were all finite and fairly small, which is a shame since you never really get an opportunity to get lost in a mind-bendingly small space. This is something I think hyper-rogue did fantastically, although it really leans into this with all the procedural generation which is likely necessary to make this feasible. One puzzle from that game that really affected me: find the mcguffin at the center of a circle whose diameter is about 4-5 times the view distance. There is nothing else in the circle besides a ground tiling. So simple, yet so hard!
You're doing such a great job with the game, keep up the awesome work dude!
Super excited to see what you come up with in the future!
This game is amazing, and that is no hyperbole!
Thanks you SOOOOO much for releasing the backend! I've been in Unity development for about 7 years now and really looking forward to 'dicking-around' with this!
I finally finished it! It’s such a great game. I also tried marble marcher back when it came out a few years ago and I just have to say, you are a great game dev
Oh nice, MIT licensing for HyperEngine! I'm looking forward to seeing what sorts of games get built with it. Hyperbolica itself was a great tech demo of what hyperbolic geometry could do for a game, but the gameplay itself felt a bit thin to me.
This is really awesome! Very gigachad of you to release your engine on Github :)
This makes me hyper, bolica!
thank you! really great job. I enjoyed all of you're math puns :)
Can't wait to try this in VR!!! Add some coop objectives, and it would be a game changer!
Seen some good videos about the game. All that hard work paid off.
Can't wait to see your next great project. Awesome work.
Kudos for releasing engine in public. Hopefully someone with good ideas will use it for some actually playable game :P
Nice, I haven't played Hyperbolica on VR yet but it's good to know it won't be janky if I will.
Bought the game, played it and instantly got bored with all the dialogs and nothing cool to do, so I uninstalled BUT I still appreciate that you've made the game, provided us with all the vlog updates and I am super amazed that you've decided to release the source code under a MIT license.
Even though I did not like the game I would buy it a second time just to support you as an awesome developer you are.
I am super excited about your other projects. Keep it up!
Thanks, I would say that the unfamiliar geometry, the frustration of getting lost, and the cramped feeling of a hot headset make for a nausea inducing experience. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I could go a few hours before really needing to take a break. Great game
I'm so excited for a native Oculus Quest release! I will definitely be buying again when that comes out!
This is really awesome, thanks, dude!
No one ever ports games to mac and i'm so excited you're doing this for the like 4 people that'll take advantage of it
I'm so very happy that your hard work, and determination to see it through, has paid off. Good job! Keep up the good work!
"Remember to keep your stick on the ice." -The Red Green Show, circa. 2000's
Will definitely be looking out for this on Mac!
Thanks for open sourcing the engine!
I can’t wait for the Mac port! The game looks really fun!
OMG I love all your videos, thanks for inspire us!
I was waiting for VR compatibility before buying it, that was fast :D
A native oculus app is a great way to expand the amount of people that can access the game on vr.
Wow, huge respect for making it opensource!
I liked Marble Marcher community edition very much, hope hyperbolica will also get some cool improvements
Man it's been a journey witching this thing come to life. You're a killer creater CP. Super stoked to see what you come out with next :))
The VR compatibility sounds so cool! It’ll be such an interesting experience
I'm glad to see things are going so well for you and Hyperbolica! The Q&A we did is one of my favorites!
I didn't get it at launch ... but with full VR support now I'm getting it
Haven't bought it yet but I've looked at the steam reviews. Good job on making this game and letting people experience this mathematical world in first person view
Well, hyperrogue already did this.
Thanks for releasing the source code and for having Linux support!!!
You did a great job! Keep up the good work!!
1:04 Haha ! Great translation ! :)
i cant wait to try this game in vr
What an amazing first game! I can't wait to see what you bring next!
Hyped bolica!
Love it you open-source this stuff 👌 props
when i got the farm area quest, i was thinking, what would a Hyperbolica mp shooter would be like if it had some polish.
Or some czech! Wait...
It would probably be really hard to hit people from far away (in hyperbolic space), since parallel lines diverge.
There is a game similar, check out Spaceflux
I'm glad the feedback for this game has been so positive for you. It's quite the accomplishment! I look forward to any content updates in the future!
Been following the development since you started playing with non euclidean space, you've done an amazing job!
holy shit take a break when you need to the output is unreal (edit: love ur content no matter how long it takes to make)
This game needs more content, great ideas
Oh hell yeah, I gotta play this at some point
1:39 marble marcher: what about me 😭
Ooh, looking forward to the toki pona translation! I wonder how you'd translate the mathematical concepts...
Congrats on the amazing launch
Remember dream simulator on PS1? This projection would work well for it
Congrats!
01:53 Very good, keep it up
great job! You're going places.
Looking forward to CodeParade videos again, and to games you make in the future!
Amazing ❤️
C'est vraiment trop drôle d"avoir une voix niquelle et là t'as le pnj qui te sort un "OUECH POTO" xD
1:02 Hyperbolica official official sound track
open sourcing the engine is really cool
best game this year by far
Love it. Keep it comin'.
Great work!
brilliant!!!! thank you!
Really impressive :)
this is honestly quite incredible
AWESOME!!! gonna wait for native oculus quest
you're such a cool person!
very interesting, i may well have to buy it when i get vr
It was such a fun game. You should definitely take a break but it needs some fixing---I had a few glitches, for example the cafe rollerskate minigame bugs out sometimes and the target will jump from one area to another, and the ending sequence was really confusing because all the wrong people were talking at me from behind other people and whatever. I think after some bugfixes and maybe some final adjustments this game would be really fun to try and do speedruns of?
The cafe minigame is my favourite, I kept getting close to sub-1 minute but not quite making it. One day, when my throws are on point, maybe...
Ah this is all so good! I'm very happy I got the game
Excited for the Mac version! Glad I’ll get a chance to play it!
Truly a fantastic game to play. If you're reading this comment and you haven't bought and played it yet, what are you waiting for? It's something you can't really get the full, mind-crumping experience of without playing it yourself.
Dude made a hyperbolic engine backend for his first released full-game... Talk about setting the bar high.
Marble marcher was a full game.
@@godlyvex5543 I didn't know about marble marcher being a released game. 1:39 He either, doesn't consider it a full game, proper release, or just forgot I guess :P
Super great to see all the updates and timeline of the release! Hoping for a Mac release at some point so I can actually play it for myself!
I was waiting to complete the desktop mode before trying vr, but now i cant wait
Also, great job with the game, i was expecting something completely different from anything that i had played before, and it didnt dissapointed me, easily the most innovative experience made into a game, the only thing in the same level is a demo from the MIT called "A slower speed of light" that explores the relativistic effects of traveling close to the speed of light in the most acurrate way possible, so it also distorts de space, distances and size.
Very recommended to the type of audience that like hyperbolica
I really liked the concept and execution. Unfortunately I could not play it for more than a few minutes before the nausea hit hard.
Imagine this game with horror elements...
*non-Euclidean Backrooms!!*
Whence I possessed a chicken in *Dungeon Keeper 1* (1998) I did perceive the world as *Hyperbolica.*
I wonder if beetles also sense reality hyperbolically ?
