Thanks for the fun video. My wife and I visited Skye from America about the time you moved there. We visited many areas you have shown us. Would love to return. Love you guys. Keep the videos coming.
I have 'window ledge envy'. I have none at all so when watching gardening programmes and they say "put on a sunny window ledge" I scream. :-) Good luck with the seeds, garden and detecting. Really interesting.
Sarah we visited there the red Cafe Cuille over Easter from Australia and we bought 3 beautiful prints of yours. The Hairy Coo, the Scotch Thistle & the sheep. We love them. Back in Australia early May. Looking forward to having them framed. We also enjoyed the Islay and tasting the whisky’s. Get Willie over there he would love it. 👏😘
Time to start searching out framed windows to build a sturdy wee greenhouse....and to keep the cute little digger pupper out of your plants, You and Willie can start building some raised beds. I loved those curious friendly goats and of course who can resist baby ducklings?
Spaniels, goats, ducklings, whiskey, great views, seed planting, metal detecting, amazing looking food, a fascinating slice of island life &, of course, the lovely Willie & Sarah. If there's a better way to round off a good Sunday, I've yet to find it! Your videos are jammed packed, entertaining, fun & Living The Skye Life is mandatory weekly viewing for all these (& so many other) reasons!
Now you're in the growing mood, time to get some First Early seed potatoes. Grow them in large pots or potato bags with multi purpose compost. Less chance of wirework and mice attack. Potatoes are cleaner too when you harvest. Taste will blow you away. Harvest about mid July.
That was a surprise, about twelve years ago we spent a week in a holiday cottage behind where Willie was metal detecting, lovely spot sitting out on the deck watching the sun set and looking out over the sea loch to the island in the background.
Great video! Looked like you had a lovely night out, ( without the dogs) The meal and drinks looked delicious! Also that metal detecting was interesting, joined by the very inquisitive goats! Amazing what you can find with one of those. Enjoyed watching Sarah planting the seeds into there little boxes, look forward to to seeing how they grow! Keep up the good work that you both do!❤
Sarah if you take a plastic water bottle and burn little holes in the plastic top like a salt seller (milk jug will also work) you will sprinkle the water nicely over the seeds. I use this. Have a lovely week.
So glad you two are responsible about not drinking & driving! Great video. Both of you looked adorable for your date. Sarah your hair looks so pretty. It was fun detecting with you Willie. Hope your veggies grow. Grammy from Texas-USA
I found your nice Video the last few days. We're from Germany and on holidays in Scotland. Yesterday we were at this restaurant and they really have fantastic food. I'm a Metal Detectorist too and tried to go detecting with a friend in Inverness. But unfortunately there was no time to go with him. Maybe next time when I'm over here. The Isle of Skye is very nice. I wish you a good life there and always luck when you go out for metal detecting. 🤞🍀
A spray bottle is handy for gently watering newly planted seed trays, growing seedlings as well as potted indoor plants in general 🙂 Provides enough water but gentle enough to not disturb baby seeds. And besides, who doesn’t enjoy using a spray bottle. It’s like a grown up water pistol.🤣 🙂🐿🌈❤️
I cannot believe how excited I got when I found out you were going to be digging again! Did something to my soul. I go back and watch your old videos all the time, as you were my favorite bottle digger.❤TN Nana
More important is preparing the ground to raise the vegetables in. I have done some dry stonewalling and would love to see more of the walls in your area. Thanks
Ooooooooo, absolutely my kind of evening out. I was thirsting and salivating from Washington State, U.S. I once went to a Game Dinner in Berlin, Germany (years ago). We had something like five courses with a different wine for each course. I love these kinds of dining and drinking experiences. And it looked just crowded enough to be congenially. Aweseom.
Really enjoy your episodes each Sunday. I watched and joined Sarah, having a dram of Isle of Rassay whisky, which we bought when we came up in Feb. ❤ I took a photo, but don't think I can add it here. X
skye is such a memory for me. first I discovered there is no night during june... dawn or evenfall but there is no night anymore. and first time I saw an aurora borealis. for me me, skye is magic and each time .... well each week! I watch your videos, it is a piece of magic. thank you so much.
An ordinary greenhouse probably wouldn't stand up to the weather/winds.One might be ok if they have a good sheltered spot...on the Isles people who get into growing seriously often get a polycrub and they cost £1000s
@@Angie-fe8yd came to say the same thing! I live in the Highlands and we bought a polycrub because no way would a greenhouse do well, some polytunnels can last a few seasons but not always so we opted for a polycrub and so pleased we did. I don’t have to worry about it flying away 🤣
When putting compost into trays and pots consider putting a tray of some sort underneath to catch spills that can go back into the bag rather than over the floor. A skooshy bottle for misting the trays so they're damp will help avoid overwatering. Last year tried growing spuds in a chunk of pipe a few feet in diameter rescued from a roadwork skip, kind of like a raised bed but seemed to produce a decent crop so might be something to consider if there's a digger about the garden
Willlie and Sarah, Thank you so much for getting back to me, just knowing that you read and appreciate my comments is enough. You and your doggies are awesome!! Cheers, Rik Spector
Hello Sarah and Willie, great garden packages Sarah, I wish you good luck in starting your garden with these little tiny plants. I look forward to seeing the advancement of them growing. And Willy great watching you scan looking for artifacts. As always I look forward to the next video. Love watching all your videos they're great.
Poor Willie - are there no taxies on the isle of Skye?! Food looked amazing - sadly I can't drink Whisky as it gives me terrible heartburn! Hubby fond of a single malt tho (the peatier the better) so will check out Rassay whisky When thinking about your garden - maybe an idea to fence off a 'dog-free' area' for some raised beds? Would also help keep any rabbits out too (if you have any in that area). The burn is handy but a water butt would be good too. What a great day for the metal detecting - Skye looking at it's best - always that pesky wind tho (the farm gate is a classic - my country Vet father used to take me out on farm calls just to hold gates I'm sure!) Btw 'The Detectorists' is our absolute favourite TV series - the music sung by Johny Flynn is so beautiful too. I hope you like it Willie?
There are taxis here, but it would probably come from Portree - so we’d be paying for an hours round trip each time 😅 We love The Detectorists and the theme tune!
Raasay is beautiful and so is the island, Ive got two bottles but the best one is finished in sherry cask. I was on Skye last week when we came back to Uig from the outer isles, love the Hebrides.
Yolanda (and Willie) looked so good on that seaside permission! So natural! I’m jealous of your fancy meal. I would have happily been your DD, so Willie could have indulged as well! Seems our weather has finally turned for the better…hope yours has too. Cheers, and ATB!
Hi Guys, Glad you enjoyed your evening meal Willie the goats were super cute following you & they were not afraid of you & the baby ducks so sweet Sarah, you should have more faith in yourself your seeds will grow because you have got girl power 🤗 bye for now guys 💖👍🐕🐕
My goodness I've adored you two from your first videos..and Willie's not drinking because he's driving made me SO happy....I adore you guys even more now!😅😊..Date night without the dogs..well deserved.Food looked amazing.
You two are so adorable. Good luck with your seeds! I love gardening, and watching the seeds pop out of the dirt. My grandchildren wish them Happy Birthday when we see the little green sprout push through. Willie, the views and land were so nice. Enjoyed watching you search for treasure. Blessings to you from USA.
Congratulations Willie on getting the land permit. Looking forward to seeing what you find in future digs. Good luck Sarah with your garden, I'm sure it will be bountiful 😊 and hopefully Nori is able to stay out of it. You both looked great on your evening out, such a great couple! ❤
Good luck with future digging Willie, being followed by animals is a lot more fun than being chased by them. Hope your seeds grow well too. It’s always nice to have your own grown fresh herbs & veggies.
Great news for metal detecting for you. Good luck with your garden, the seed packets should tell you how long the seeds take to germinate 🤷♀️🤷♀️ have a read. Take care and thank you for sharing your adventures 👍🙏❤️
Another brilliant video, hope your seeds will grow for you both. One word of caution if you grow peas, beware the ladies tend to eat them from the pods before they make the cooking pots. That’s what I find anyway. 😊😂
That was a great video, i was expecting that puppy of yours to whisk the washing off the line. My dogs used to think it was awfully good fun. Wishing you all a good week.
Cardboard egg cartons make excellent seed sprouters - you don’t have to replant the seedlings when they’re ready for the garden - you can just cut up the individual cup thingies and put them straight in the garden, so you don’t disturb the roots. It’s also means you won’t be creating microplastics when the plastic planters eventually break down.
The seeds will grow, it's their best skill, if you have a spray bottle you can spritz them until you get a watering can. When they're ready to transplant prick them out with a chopstick so you get out the whole baby root then use the wide end the chopstick to swizzle out a little planting hole. I bet you can find a bucketful of videos to watch on these methods! :). Happy growing!
I was looking forward to a nice relaxing time out (rough day) and your videos never disappoint.....one way to safeguard your plants is to build elevated beds to keep little paws out I built a raised flower bed for my mother so she could enjoy gardening without having to bend down or get on her knees the result is beautiful flowers she can tend standing up....looking forward to many finds from your new detecting location Willie...Karl from eastern Canada😀😀😀
Sarah, if I send a photo, can you draw it. I had a bizzare memory from my late partner of almost ten years, but now I have his pic of our dog showing up on memories, my Milly passed a year after Andy. I need a painting, I have the sheep and the horse, love your work.
Hi Diane! So glad that you like my prints 😊 I’m afraid I am not in a position to take on commissions at the moment - I just don’t have the time to devote to them that I would want to! Sarah x
I love growing my own food. The best thing about getting started is if it doesn’t work, have another go! One tip, pre-soak the trays of seed compost so you don’t have to water the seeds after sowing. They are so small they can get washed away.
@@thehighlandlife2023 You are so welcome! I spent a really happy few hours yesterday potting up basil seedlings and then preparing some seed trays of all sorts of vegetables and salads. I’m still learning, I only started a few years ago when I finally (in my 50s) managed to get my own home that also has a decent sized garden.
@@thehighlandlife2023 oh, and our window sills look just like Skye Life’s sills, covered in seed trays and various pots of flowers and veg seedlings. It’s that time of year where we are waiting for the final frost so they can move outside.
@@randomjasmicisrandom oh awesome, Iam 40 and only just really getting gardening! We have a polycrub which definitely helps up here as the wind is relentless 🤣 I am feeling inspired… even if the weather here right now isn’t too inspiring! Thank you so much for your advice xx
You to are absolutely magic, love your channel, so uplifting, Willie you should ask west country clegg,or the Scottish detectorist,to come along to the next dig.
I can see a few more "little friends" arriving at the cottage in the future. Chickens would be great for a little small holding. Metal detecting as habit forming as beach combing isn't it? Can't go to the beach without coming back from shells or stones.
The vension appeared like it was smoked and I think that is probably why you both said you have never tasted vension like that before. The color gave the clue away.
Willie, I’m so glad those goats had friendly personalities. Sarah will you be planting your veggies in raised beds? Could put fencing around your garden to protect from a mischievous pupper or maybe 2 🤭 Loved the video! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. 😊
Dinner and Whiskey tasting looked wonderful. Willie, I am sure you are jazzed to have such great permissions for detecting! Gate blooper was great, I have a fence gate that does the same thing when I try and put trash cans away. Good luck on the garden. Have a great week!
Full of great content. Loved the mention of Mull cheddar. One of my favourites (isle of Mull cheddar) with such a yummy flavour. I collect toilet roll inserts to plant seeds in then when the plants are ready the whole thing goes straight in the ground. Best thing to do is ask locally what plants suit your climate. Happy growing and detectoring
Can’t wait to go to Cafe Cuil soon (with or without pups)🙈🥰 metal detecting sounds very exciting for my husband but me, gardening is much more fun to me 😅that’s what we like about your channel and characters (it is for everyone no matter) ❤😊 see you next week guys 🎉
Especially enjoyed this video as we'll be going over to Raasay and staying at the distillery's hotel over night during our four day trip to Skye from Arizona this September. Will definitely have dinner or lunch at Cafe Cuil while we're there. Maybe we'll be lucky enough to run into you while we're visiting. Good luck with you're first planting on Skye!.
I have the blackest of thumbs. I swear I kill anything I plant even if I follow all instructions to the letter! I'm looking forward to seeing how the garden grows!
Love your videos! Must check out the Cafe Cuil when we come up in September. My partner’s brother has lived on Raasay for over 40 years and so we drive up from Hove every year. 💕
Great to see all that land you get to metal detect on ! Bet Sarah will never see you again 😂 can imagine metal detecting can get quite addictive- 🤔mmm just one last dig ! Next to dogs , goats and donkeys are my favourite animals . Oh the dream to live on a Scottish island with goats and donkeys 😊
Hi Willie and Sarah great video as always, however I am sitting watching this and I am not far from where you are. We are up here for a week's holiday in a cottage at Allt nah Sugh which is just before Sallachy on the shores of Loch Long. We plan on driving around Skye for most of our week here. Keep up the good work.
Hi guys, the scallops look amazing, watching willie with the gate in my mind i could hear the theme from benny hill.😂 if you can carry a bungee cord its quicker than tying a gate open whilst moving through pastures. Sarah did you plant the full tray of lettuce or plant ten modules then next week plant ten more then again the week later for successional planting. Hope you get to uncover some interesting items again willie.🤙xx
I'm not a big fan of whiskey anyway. I think that makes me a heathen. That's ok, more for you guys! Diet Pepsi is my drink of choice...no headache the next day! The scallops and venison looked really yummy! Cauliflower...not so much. The detecting is neat, but the location is stunning! What a lovely guy the farmer is to allow detecting over his entire fields! 3 cheers for the farmer and the croft owners.
So happy to see Willie getting back to metal detecting, even though he seems to be evolving into his final form at the same time: a real-life Disney princess! The animals following him around are a clear sign. Love it! Given the size of this area, I suspect we'll be getting detecting videos for the next decade or so. Can't wait! Good luck with the gardening. Fingers crossed Nori won't dig up everything you plant before it's harvest time. Perhaps you could teach him to dig out potatoes on command...?
Another super video. Your night out was well deserved and did the pups behave? Willie would make a great Lecturer and his classes would be full. 🏴xx

Another great video look forward every week to them, Just ordered our Wild Deodorant and cases
I can see a few more "little friends" arriving at the cottage in the future. Chickens would be great for a little small holding. Metal detecting as habit forming as beach combing isn't it? Can't go to the beach without coming back from shells or stones.
Wonderful!!! Delicious food and drink, spring planting, , goats, ducklings, metal detecting, and gates that don’t want to cooperate! ❤😂
Another fantastic vlog - on a side note, it is lovely to see you two together on your night out; how you interact and look at each other!
That meal looked delicious and a whisky tasting too! Glad Willie is out metal detecting again and hope your seeds grow well x
Love your vlogs and your work ethic especially your mindfulness regarding protection of the environment & your fellow human beings 👍🏼❤️
Great video,love detecting ,
I wish you good luck w/ the veggie garden.....I also lack a green thumb...lol....loved the metal-detecting content as well, its so interesting!
Thanks so much!!
I loved your face when you were given permission to search the whole area!! Too cool!! 😮😂😮😂
I was actually shaking! Getting a big permission like that is an incomparable buzz! 🙂
Hi, Sarah and Willie. That night out looked very tasty.
The vension appeared like it was smoked and I think that is probably why you both said you have never tasted vension like that before. The color gave the clue away.
Willie you have get Sarah to painting of the Goats and give it to own as a thank you letting you metal detector on there land xxxx❤❤❤❤
Great idea - thanks!
Willie, I’m so glad those goats had friendly personalities. Sarah will you be planting your veggies in raised beds? Could put fencing around your garden to protect from a mischievous pupper or maybe 2 🤭
Loved the video! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. 😊
Exciting to get all those interesting things
The Mull cheddar was amazing! Must find some to have for ourselves 😊
Ah amazing!! We hope you have a great trip 😊 Please do say hello if you see us around the island!
I have the blackest of thumbs. I swear I kill anything I plant even if I follow all instructions to the letter! I'm looking forward to seeing how the garden grows!
Your videos are an island of sanity. And rock. And old, rusted things. And, maybe, someday, broccoli. 😊 Thanks!
Can you pop up your drone to look for parch marks and/or other markers? I’m so thrilled for you. Great video, team.
Love your videos! Must check out the Cafe Cuil when we come up in September.
My partner’s brother has lived on Raasay for over 40 years and so we drive up from Hove every year. 💕
Ah lovely! Cafe Cuil is highly recommended 😊👍
Just a little tip if it helps. Let the water warm up a little to water seeds/seedlings.
What a beautiful video!!!! Just a lovely life on the Isle of Skye!!!! xxx
Loved the video as always!
Have you considered constructing some raise garden beds?
It might be a way to help potential digging up from Nori.
I miss the bottle hunts but the metal detecting is a fine second. Thanks Wilie and Sarah!
'Whisky' in Scotland - Whiskey is Irish, a small but important distinction! 🙂
🏴xx
Yes the dogs were fine! We think they just settled down to snooze while we were out 😊
Hallo, think about this: Willie could give Lessons for guitar, and Sarah for painting?
