Hello from Finland! You can use straw to cover the edges of the potatoes to prevent greening. It is easier and they already have enough soil I think. Have a nice summer!

I love making elderflower cordial too! A Tip - I have found that letting the syrup cool down to about blood temperature before immersing the flowers enhances the perfumed elderflower flavour significantly.

Hi, we've just had my dream holiday on Islay, Mull and Skye. It was all as wonderful as I expected but the weather was worst on Skye! So much rain, heavy, sideways, torrential! But despite that it was a joy to be there when we could see the stunning mountains and gorgeous Glen's. The bonus of the weather was the stunning waterfalls! Thank you for your lovely videos, we always enjoy seeing where you've been and what you and the pups have been up to! 😊

Just when you thought the weather was lousy, now you've been inflicted with a Keir Starmer!! Poor buggers! A tip for Willie, when he is splitting those blocks with the knots in them. Once the axe is stuck in the block, turn it upside down and swing it so that the axe head hits the block. I've split tons of pine blocks bigger than the ones he is splitting and found that to work the best. If that is pine that you are burning, make sure you clean your chimney on a regular basis.

When I was a little kid, Dad (and his brothers) added a fireplace to the corner of the living room. All brick, very well done, looks like it came with the house. For the winters, we would add a wood stove to the front of it, which would heat that whole floor of the house. I think we went through three or four wood stoves over the decades, and they were very heavy. Every fall we'd have to uncover it in the garage and roll it up the driveway on nothing but a hand truck. Every spring, we'd have to take it back. After I moved out, I was bribed with dinner every spring and fall, and guess what the catch was.
We never had to buy firewood because we have a 40-acre farm in the countryside, of which 38 acres are wooded. Dad and I worked those woods every summer, cutting down trees, splitting the trunks, and chopping up firewood to burn after it cured for 2-3 years.
This continued until a few years ago, when Dad finally decided he had enough of chopping wood and bought gas logs for the fireplace, which use the natural gas the furnace, stove, and water heater run on. I don't blame him. After all, he was 84 at the time.

Elder is easy to propogate. Take some cuttings, pot up in some moist good potting mix (I tend to scrape the bark a bit down to the cambium layer, and a bit of rooting hormone just to be sure), put back in a well shady place for at least a month, keeping the soil damp, then harden off and plant out.

❤I love your planters. The transplanted seedlings will survive a bit better if they are hardened off and have some time outside before being moved out of their pot and into the planter. Having some time to get exposure to the full sun and wind helps them develop stronger stems and they have an easier time surviving transplant shock. I usually start by moving them outside in the late afternoon and gradually increasing the time outdoors to a full day, then leave them outside after that for a few days before transplanting. And you may know that already, but gardening can be a steep learning curve, and it never hurts to share a tip if you know one.

I was wondering maybe framing some shade cloth to put on the top of the compost to stop the winds blowing any scraps out and perhaps wooden lattice or maybe chicken mesh around the potatoes to stop the cheeky pup from scratching around. Also I heard that putting mint in a bottle of water and spritzing yourself may help stop the midgies from bitting. Anyway just some ideas if you haven't already thought of them. Your place is looking so amazing with all your hard work, Can't wait to see what you both will be doing in your next video.

Here in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. we call June - “Junuary”, because of the same kind of weather . 😅 We feel your pain!

We have excess heat here in Romania and most of the country is under Code Red for heat. Watching this episode a little late - Saturday 13th July. It's been between 30 and 37C every day since mid June with very little rain, only a couple of heavy but short lived thunderstorms. My weather app shows temperatures in the 30s for the next two weeks with perhaps a couple of days of thunderstorms in the latter half of next week.
