When you die you drop the cape or jetpack if you were wearing it, as well as any item you have in your hands. But you should be able to go back to pick them up. Like how the boomerang was by the exit. The jetpack was probably up above somewhere or had fallen into the abyss.
Hey Northernlion, since the X-Com Let's Play is done with, do you plan on filling in that slot with a new one? Preferably not Spelunky if that's what this video entails?
When you did on 3-1, you were supposed to keep the jetpack, no idea why it was lost, it's supposed to stay with you. When you saw it at the door on 3-2 i'm guessing it was because it glitched on the previous floor. The game knew you were supposed to keep it, but didn't so it must have defaulted it to the door on the next level... so weird.
