4 years at Cambridge University, another 2 at law school and nearly a year now at a high-flying (lol - not travelled anywhere actually) corporate law firm, and I've been lucky enough to be surrounded by some of the world's highest-performing students, teachers and professionals 🤩
And along the way, I've learned so flipping much - so, while I'm still only a baby in relative terms, I wanted to share my top 8 lessons that have radically changed my life over the last 7 years since I left school. Entering the big wide world of crazily successful, hard-working and diligent Cambridge students, law grads and corporate lawyers has been a whirlwind, but one thing is for sure, my mind has been consistently blown by people's ability to open my mind to new ideas, prove me wrong, and teach me new things every single day 🤯
So, this is what I've really learned as a Cambridge student and trainee corporate lawyer. Enjoy xx

About Me
I'm a trainee lawyer, part-time UA-camr, son, brother, startup founder, boyfriend, black coffee drinker and plant dad. I graduated from Cambridge University (where I studied French and Spanish), topped my law school class and now work for a corporate law firm in London as a trainee solicitor (which takes up a lot of my time)!
Around that I'm a big fan of discovering new ways of thinking, of balancing work with life, and of performing to the very best of my ability. Ohh, and being happy. And I try to share all that on this UA-cam channel 😀
Fun fact: I believe we massively overplay the role of “natural talent” 😮 AND… I also believe that TOGETHER, WE ARE ALL CAPABLE OF POSITIVITY, PRODUCTIVITY AND SUCCESS.

Thanks brother for sharing such a wonderful insight as well as perception about Corporate lawyer's life....loved it..
The last lesson is so true. I have started to meet with my friends more often again. It just makes everything so much better
100% connecting with people = life’s greatest joy 😊😊 Couldn’t agree more!! (And I’m so sorry for taking so long to reply - it’s been a crazy week!!)
Great content, thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much Will - I really appreciate your kind words 😊 (P.s. Sorry it has taken so long to reply - it’s been a crazy week!)
Thanks for providing valuable information thanks Liam
I felt #1 so much! I definitely have a fear of asking questions sometimes out of fear of looking stupid or just because I'm shy. But I'm beginning to learn that people are usually open to answering your questions and actually appreciate your interest for sure! :)
100% agree on this - I’m not hugely shy, but have still had to fight hard to overcome the fear of making a fool of myself by asking a question people might think is stupid - but as you say, generally people are just happy you’re engaged and interested 😊
Perfect video. Thank you 🙌🏼
Thanks Liam this was awesome! I now click on your videos instinctively whenever I see a new one. It's great stuff
That’s so awesome Brad - very very happy to be a regular click of yours, and I really do massively appreciate the support 😊😊(P.s. Sorry it has taken so long to reply - it’s been a crazy week!)

Thank you so so much Jose (and I’m so sorry for taking so long to reply - it’s been a crazy week!!)
Keep up the good work!
I love this channel. A true inspiration as I embark on my LL.M.
Thank you so much 🤗 Good luck 😊😊
Great video man
These are some great tips; all of them are based on strong principles. And if these are your principles when you are just starting out, you will go far. Godspeed!
Thanks so much Shail - still a long way to go, but hopefully a great base as you say 🙂
Really needed this, thanks Liam:) Also, can you make a workout routine video sometime in the future?
Haha- I’m not sure it quite fits with my channel!! Do you mean like a video you would work out along with?! Or just what my workout schedule is? 😋
Absolutely quality content
you seem like such a nice person troughout all of your videos! I hope your channel will grow and if this video does better when i'll comment, then here it is haha :) keep up the great work!
Thank you so so much for your kind words and support Rianne - I really am very grateful 😊😊
Thanks for the tips!
No worries Soni! Thanks for commenting!!
Amazing job and very insightful
Thank you so much 🙂 (P.s. so sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you - it’s been a crazily busy week!)
What a great video! I am 30 years old now and of course I am agree with you, specially in the fact that we have to take care of ourselves (exercise) and to know other cultures and people. Have a nice day.
Thank you so so much! Very glad you found my ideas valuable and hope to see you again soon 😊🤗
Awesome video man!
Thank you!!
Starting a youtube channel definitely makes you realise lesson number 4. We all imagine that everyone is looking at us and watching our every move and the reality is that people are just living their own lives and have their own problems to worry about. Great video Liam :)
I agree 100%
Also I checked your channel we started out around the same time and you're doing really well! Props to you.
@@doctorroda Thanks very much Roda, good luck with your channel too!
Thanks :) @@JacWilliamsVideo
Yep - for sure - and I think this is a lesson I’m still learning, that other people are way less harsh on me than I am, and provided We are putting out genuine content that provides some valuable insights, that is enough! People aren’t critiquing everything we say as much as we are ourselves 😝
@@liam.porritt 100%, hope you're doing well Liam :)
Hey Liam I am an aspiring lawyer and i am genuinely interested in corporate law .
(1. What are the most important skills to have as a corporate lawyer?
2. Is being not very good at math a liability and will it cause alot of hindrance? ) Great work btw you are a real motivation to look up to. 🙌🏻
Such a great video :)
Thank you so much Jay!! 😊
Great Video !
Thank you!
nice video!
Good video, the last thing is really true
Thank you!! 😊
keep up Liam 👍
Thank you!! 😊
Some good points. Hate law - am in investment management - but still good points
Thanks for the tips Liam!
Love from India🇮🇳
Love back!! 🙂
Interestingly, as an asset management professional, I can so relate to all those things you mentioned! Great video as always, Just discovered your channel few days ago and I am loving the content so far!!!!
When I was in Yr10 I had a school trip to Clifford chance. Liked the place . Had nice gun and a pool inside. Although I never intend to be a lawyer. Seems like a great career
I'm from India and I really like your content. I wanna work at a magic circle law firm just like you after I graduate. Stay motivated and keep motivating! Cheers!
Thanks so much bud!! I really appreciate your support and wish you the best of luck entering the world of corporate law 😊🤗
ngl, I still feel super scared to ask questions and Im trying to overcome that fear! Now I make it a point to take a deep breath and just ask it!!! Im slowly building my tolerance for asking questions but it still isnt easy for me
I think instead of overcoming fear - > fear always persists at the back of one's mind. You should do it anyway :)
Good luck on your beautiful journey of self-improvement!
@@devanshi2039 thank you for your motivational words!! thank you and good luck to you too!!
I’m not sure if this will be helpful to you or not, but if one of my direct reports doesn’t ask questions it makes me nervous that they don’t understand ANYTHING, whereas if they ask it shows they are thinking. Also, being able to say “I don’t understand” shows confidence in your own limitations, and equally if someone doesn’t do that, I often wonder what they are hiding. So go for it! :)
Wise words Katy!! I still really struggle with this Sam, but Katy makes a great additional point to the stuff I said - ie by asking questions we show what we don’t understand and by implication also show we do at least understand some of it 😋😊
Do you have a blog, link or any other resources on how to find jobs, internships or programs for undergrad students pursuing law/ prelaw?
Hi Liam! I hope you are fine! I don't know if you will have time to read my comments but while I was watching your video (insightful!), I thought a video that could be great for us is a recap of all sources (UA-cam channels, podcast, newspaper, books) you use to pursue learning outside schools. You talk about it in some videos but doing a recap could be great! Have a beautiful day, Maude.
Hey Maude! Love this idea - could even be a series - My top 5.... 😝🤗
It would be great!! Waiting for the series ... 😉
Top 10 needlessly overused words by these kind of Productivity channels.

Is there any chance you could make a video that focuses on the LPC? I feel like a lot of your law school/study videos are focused on the LLB! Thank you 🙂
Hey! You are for sure right on this! I didn’t talk too much about the LPC sadly and as I’m no longer doing it, I don’t think I’m really that well placed to talk about it! However, I do have a friend (Lorraine Chimbga) who may make a few LPC videos soon 😊
My goal need "Help the people"
Are you interested in making a video on legal technology? I would like to see how lawyers think about the technology advancement
Hey! I definitely would be, but not sure it really fits with my audience on my channel! Maybe I need to do this on LinkedIn 😝
@@liam.porritt Understand the audience part, keep up the good work! Your videos are so inspiring!

I still have my Mac, but it quite often crashes when not plugged in 🤪
Lol imagine your problem in life being, “I was rich but others were richer.” These are the problems I want in life
Sir what are the education requirements needed to become a solicitor in London and can I apply for job as a solicitor after completing my ba.llb degree plz reply
If you have an English law degree, you then need to do another course- legal practice course (system is changing but this currently) and then find a firm prepared to train you for 2 years. Then you qualify if you pass the training. So short answer is no - you have three more years after the LLB.
thank you so much
Jane is spot on here - thank you Jane!
Nice content. .I don't know who, but someone actually needs to hear this, you've got to stop saving all your money. Venture into investing some, if you really want financial stability
Invest globally in bitcoin, gold, silver, forex market, commodities. Just don't be left out and save yourself
Beautifully said, I tell my folks these words everyday. It's good to save money but most people don't understand the market moves and tend to be misled in facts like this and always depend on money in the bank.
Thanks for the insight I remember friends calling me crazy when I started investing in bitcoin now I shut them up with my 4 figure weekly return
@@petekelvin2736 I understand the fact that tomorrow isn't promised to anyone, but investing today is a hard thing to do because i have no idea of how and where to invest in these?
@@investwithqueenie5491 Hey, this is a computer age. Peeps who aren't even traders make money from the crypto and forex markets ,how many millionaires do you know who have become wealthy by investing in savings accounts?
