For the climate and audio capacitive touch panel, you can set it to automatically default back to audio controls after a few seconds so you will always know that it’s set on audio when you go down to reach for the knob.

Like many who have reviewed this vehicle, you requested comment regarding the hvac/infotainment interface. I agree with Kia's choice to use this arrangement. It blends well with the clean, futuristic appearance of the dash and also provides an audible cue to which mode is active. Besides, most of the time, the driver will use the steering wheel mounted volume control to raise, lower or mute the audio source (who wouldn't?) and the dash mounted panel can remain in hvac mode most or all of the time. This is a non-issue, really.

The non textured can only be moved up and down. The textured switches are the ones which can also be pressed inward for choosing options in the audio controls. I've been watching allot of 2023 Sportage videos, since I plan on a future purchase. It was nice to learn a few new things form yours. Well done.

I have the sportage sx hybrid and the problem is that the piano black does hit you on the eye when the sun is aiming directly up your roof. My fuel economy is at 42mpg in a mix of hwy 40% and local streets stop and go at 60%. Dealership markup was $3000 so pretty much tax and docs for me out the door at $46,500. Also for the people planning to buy the sportage I can say it's quiet when it is on the road and the ventilated seats are freezing cold on the sx trim.

@@sachilee1 they were for SURE having the engine issues from 2011-2019. And I really don’t know if they’ve actually corrected the problem. I highly recommend doing a lot of research and talking to a technician before considering a purchase. You’d “think” they would’ve redesigned the engine much sooner. Just beware….There have been over a billion claims already. And mine was a 2017 and had just finished paying it off in December…and now I have no car for 7 months and only rental reimbursement 2-3 months AFTER the vehicle is completed. They are not replacing the entire engine…only the block and oil pan (because the aluminum engine rods create a lot of shavings that go into the oil pan). Many owners are saying that even with the replacement, the replacement engine or block also went out. Some are on their 3rd replacement. Do you really want this type of headache? And, it hasn’t been confirmed if they’ve actually fixed or redesigned the engine, as well as it is taking up to 5 years or a little after for the engine issues to happen for each consecutive year, and is technically OUT OF WARRANTY, unless you had the recall engine sensor done (which the sensor did absolutely NO good…as the engine blew while we were driving 75 mph on the interstate through the long stretch in Texas…no overheating, no engine light, no nothing…and almost got run over by 2 semi trucks hauling butt while trying to coast over to the side of the road.

@@traceywojtal9045 I leased on 3 year deals. Just got this one they’re reviewing, the hybrid. First was 2016, next 2019, so this one 2022. This one is a step up, but it is an upgrade, but still the engine feels smoother. First one in 2016 was after my 10 year old 3 series BMW bought from new, so a change was needed and I loved the higher driving position. As they’re leased, don’t have to worry about wear and tear because if you get another after 3 years, they let a lot go…a lot😊.
Wouldn’t buy one outright even with the 7 year warranty, but great car that has gotten better every iteration imo. I was used to my 3 Series BMW but the standard didn’t drop too much, but the latest one I have is BMW quality. First one felt slow, but this new one is as fast 0-60 as a Mark 5 golf GTi. That’s 7s which is super quick for a SUV. Everything that I felt was lacking and/or below par I feel has been rectified on this, but only done 1500 miles, so we’ll see…

My guess about the textured vs untextured steering wheel switches is as follows: Maybe Kia decided that having two switches next to each other that operate similarly (up and down) could result in unwanted inputs by the driver. So, in an effort to create an easy way to allow a driver to differentiate the switches without having to look down at them Kia textured one and not the other. 🤔

Please do your homework on engine, transmission and power train issues on the Sportage, or ANY Kia/Hyundai model before purchasing. Bought a 17 Sportage, loved the spaciousness of the interior and all…but now it will be sitting at an out of state dealer for approximately 7 months due to the engine issues. Had I done my homework and learned of ALL the cheap engines they are installing and are going out without warning, I never would’ve bought it. My car is only 5 years and 7 months old. And there has been other issues-like the $2000k AC compressor that went out just 2 months before the engine went out WHILE driving 75 mph on an interstate. $30k down the toilet for a car that is only going to last 7 months past the day I pay it off?!? Do extensive research if you think you still want one, but I’d avoid Kia/Hyundai at all costs.

Knob control idea for Kia: provide an option where the left knob controls temperature and the right knob controls volume. The logic being the driver can easily set the volume from the steering wheel and the passenger uses the right knob. On the topic of the track switch not being textured, I don’t have experience with that specifically but I do find it odd that on my 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe the track switch is backwards. Meaning to go forward in the track list I push down, and up tj go back. I brought it to the dealer thinking it was a mistake, and after a couple hours of work on their end they determined this was a design choice (and a poor one at that) and they apologized and said there was nothing they could do. It seems that Kia and Hyundai as very close cousins have specific feelings on the track switch on their vehicles.

Micah, it's interesting that you mentioned the squiggly lines in the windshield. My friend's Range Rover has the same thing and whenever I ride with him it takes a while for my brain to stop focusing on them! The first time I thought it would make me crazy because I couldn't stop seeing them and I had to look out the side windows. Finally after a while I noticed my brain must have become accustomed to them and I didn't notice them as much. It's really funny how something so small can be such an annoyance, even for a short period of time

And it will be approximately another 6 MONTHS for them to inspect my vehicle, open a Kia Warranty Claim, order & wait for parts and installation. This all happened on a road trip out of state. And Kia Motor Consumerism won’t help a loaner or rental upfront. They expect us to pay the rental out of pocket for 7 months. NEVER AGAIN will I buy a Kia/Hyundai product!!

Nice vehicle. I like it. The matte gray paint looks great on this Sportage, but I would never buy a vehicle with matte paint because of the high maintenance and washing limitations. As for the two controls on the steering wheel, my thought is that they used two different textures so that you can immediately differentiate which is which when you are concentrating on the road. You know, like when you are in a high speed getaway from the cops (applies to California only) 😂

Great review and video, just one minor correction with the EX you get a completely different instrument cluster than what was shown. It is very basic with just numbers no gauges. Thanks watching, Mike! I just double checked Kia's press site. According to them, the EX gets the 12.3" screen like our tester. It's the base LX that includes the 8" screen with the traditional interface. If you want to verify for yourself just google "Kia Media". The press site is a really helpful resource for car reviewers but I think buyers like you might appreciate it too. Cheers!

@@MicahMuzio Hi micha, you are correct that EX gets a 12.3 inch screen but there are two different versions of the 12.3 inch screen. One for the EX and one for the SX and prestige. The EX has only digital numbers with some wraparound graphics, as where the SX has a full digital display representing speedometer and tachometer and many other features as you had in your review.. The 8 inch display on the LX has the same graphical interface as the LX just in a smaller version. I have test driven all three models and there is a definite difference. If there is a way to attach screenshots here I would do that. Thank you very much.
