- Winter Flounder fishing is new to me, but it sure was a fun experience! We fish around the Peddock island, near Hull, Quincy, or South Boston here at Massachusetts, and the trip started with a schoolie striper bliz!

I miss the good old days fishing out of Hull catching flounder with my granpa. . Good times. Once we were fising near a buoy and saw a lobster boat off in the distance. Not realizing the end of his line was the buoy, obviously he was getting closer. My grandpa was a WWII vet and had great manners. As he was one bouy away he asked if he should move. No problem the Capt replied. As we watched him get the last buoy he gunned it with precision and came next to our boat and threw in 2 lobsters and said have a great day. I'll never foget that and all the flounder we caught. Good times in Quincy bay. We did that trip many times and always came back with loads of flounder,....and no I'm not telling you were the flounder are LOL. Love that area. Nice vid. THANKS for the memories.
try onshore fishing for flounder at pleasure bay or castle island in South Boston. Need a dolly for equipment to walk out there. Not sure where you would get bait there. Castle island is deep, so you can catch cod too. My grandfather lived in Quincy in the 1930s. Quincy bay used to be full of schools of mackerel, but they got overfished.

not too sure about their taste, but I like a grilled fluke more, lol

I'm glad you had a good time and caught some nice fish, but if the number you caught is typical, it's depressing that the fishery hasn't recovered at least near what it was back in the 1980's.
Back then the two of you could have caught 100 or more, with most of them being large, in the 14-16 inch range. I caught them up to 19" before the fishery collapsed, and I haven't paid much attention to it since. It would be a beautiful thing if it comes back at least near what it was. I never did hear if they ever figured out why it collapsed; but heard lots of theories.

They used to go out on boats and fill large trash bags with flounder - each. And then they wondered why the fishery collapsed
Not that, it was the trawlers in shallow waters. We saw one once and the boat was huge. Should never have been allowed.

I never targeted winter flounder before. But I've heard I've hooked one a few yrs ago. They're usually smaller than the fluke that I target and barely enough meat but those looks big enough.
With minimum 12inch, you should have some meat for the table. But I was lucky, I got a couple more than 15inch, which was good for a flounde beginner like me, thanks for the comment!
