    About to go fishing on the Jersey shore in the morning. I got some gulp, do I just put it on the hook and cast it? Do I need a weight or anything else? Right now my rod is set up with a weight, swivel (I think), and a hook that has the shiny tale thing you used it the video. (Sorry I’m new to this haha)

    • @BobAquatic
      @BobAquatic  5 місяців тому

      Its ok! It is all a little confusing at first but will make sense soon. If you are on the shore, you will need a little weight to get to the bottom. Drag the gulp really slow along the bottom with little "twitches" as you reel in.

    Hey man I’m in Suffolk county getting into fishing for the first time in my life. After some extensive research I’ve finally got almost everything I need to get going. Just wanted to know What process do you recommend I take in finding good spots to go fishing at. I’m tried at a couple local marina’s as well as sore thumb beach and a few others but I haven’t had any good luck aside from a few bites and a few that got away. Haven’t gotten anything rewarding yet. Any insight on how I can find more places would be helpful. I have found that everyone in the community out here for some reason tends to gate keep locations lol

    • @BobAquatic
      @BobAquatic  6 місяців тому +1

      I would download navionics and learn the structure of your area. Take it to spots you already know and look at the depths based on your location. Cross areas off the list that are good or bad. Ask yourself, why would a fish be here? Is there bait? Is there structure? You might have an incredible spot in your backyard. If you are worried about that gate keeping mentality, you are already fishing wrong. Fish move around and spots only matter if you understand how the tides affect them differently. Keep a log book of your catches

    Does being enrolled in the marine fishing registry counts as a fishing permit in this area? I was watching this place and there’s a sign saying that you need a fishing permit to be there. Sorry I’m not that familiar with permits and licenses in NY.

    • @BobAquatic
      @BobAquatic  7 місяців тому

      hey, not too sure. I get permits through the DEC depending on the state. NY has a DEC website you can get permits from and is required to fish from this pier. They do check sometimes so its best not to risk it

    • @trex1448
      @trex1448 5 місяців тому

      The permit that the sign is talking about is probably for parking and night fishing. You can fish there with a free saltwater license but you need a permit to be able to park there and to be there at night.

    You're reeling in too fast for the flounder to see the bait. The flounder lie on the floor. You must let your bait sink down far enough so they can see it. Both eyes are the same side for a reason. They are looking up for prey to the swim by. Try it, you'll like it. That's why you're getting everything but fluke.
