@@MrRaulstrnad Exactly. Not to mention they already give him the best service anyone has ever gotten because he's coming to film them which will make or break their business.
Yeah Pedro seems legit. Generally it would be considered a bit unfair/unreasonable to expect your average flight instructor himself to have to speak to reviews of the business, especially if they’re really old when he didn’t work there (only been there 2 years) unless Pedro himself runs the entire flight school.. the reviews are going to be from people that paid for an entire package of flight training (weeks/months), including a lot of flight time/ground training, and again it was likely prior ownership/leadership/instructors/employees that contributed to that, none tied directly to Pedro, he seems like a friggin saint. These flight schools churn through flight instructors, owners, ground school trainers pretty regularly, just the nature of the small/local flight school “industry”, these folks tend to move on to bigger companies, bigger/more complex planes, earning them more certifications, qualifying them to fly/train people on planes that Pedro’s school may not even have available in their hangar. It’s also common for everyday folks to be shocked by the apparent old age of the planes, often from the 70’s/80’s (at best) but again this is common industry-wide. The important bits on a plain are federally mandated to be operating in top condition, a costly annual event, on top of all the other regular maintenance items required. It’s unlikely you’ll find any flight school with the money to buy new planes, nor those made in the last 20-30 years, as it makes zero financial sense when a 30 year old plane is still $60k or whatever, and will require the exact same level of annual inspection cost, exact same cost to store the plane, to operate it daily in terms of fuel (okay a newer one will be a little more fuel efficient but that’s negligible if you have to spend $150k to get it), and fundamentally,’the planes will “fly/operate” very similarly, despite the 30-40 year age difference. Just comes down to physics/fundamental laws of nature as it relates to an aircraft in the air. Again sure a $200k new plane will be a little smoother, brake better, have all digital dash etc... but that’s a not realistic experience, any actual pilot will not start out in a $200k new Cessna. It’s gunna be a 1972, just like the one they trained on, cause that’s what makes financial sense in both cases. Almost end rant. I will say that it seems a little strange that Pedro went from being a commercial pilot (NO easy feat, costly to obtain sufficient training, pays well) to a small/local flight instructor working with beginners. But, maybe he prefers that. His personality certainly seems well-fit for working with beginners, and he’s likely certified to train more experienced pilots on other aircraft they may not happen to have in their own personal hanger (e.g. multi-engine etc.). In summary, I’d trust Pedro with my life, especially considering he’s a former commercial pilot, it takes a LOT to get to that level, even if he had to step down from it for one reason or another. Edit to add formatting and this context: I’ve taken a few ‘discovery flights’ with more than one local flight school, coincidentally I also happened to fly with an operator in Vancouver, though that was a heli...
I was surprised to see Pedro here... He did my tailwheel checkout in a Citabria and had me competent in only 3 hours instead of the 10 that's generally expected. VERY solid pilot and instructor. I would trust my life with him anytime. The school also has great quality aircraft; I'm really not sure where the bad reviews are coming from.
I would be heartbroken hearing about students being treated that way by CFI's. It's a CFI's job to nurture the love of flying and creating safe pilots. I can tell Pedro loves teaching.
Most of the instructors there are absolutely amazing. However a single instructor has done so much to bring the schools reputation down. I don't think it is truly a one star school, but it does not compare well to the other schools in the area.
And Pedro is awesome, I flew with him exactly once and it was an incredibly informative flight especially from someone with his experience in the field.
The CFI holds the entire representation of a flight school unfortunately. The school I work for had a couple of.. er... bad CFI’s. Every negative review for our school was written by students who were with these CFI’s. Once this was discovered they were terminated from employment.

As a pilot, I thought I would add my two cents, -Flight center is at a towered airport, generally speaking, this is a good sign because it gives students good experience talking to ATC -The airport itself seems to have a bit of a maintenance program, grass not being trimmed, scrap metal left loose. -The flight school itself seems pretty good. In Canada, the maintenance standards for flight school aircraft are very high. Some planes are old and some people equate this to mean bad, but I've flown some aircraft that still had cigarette lighters that flew fine. Old doesn't mean terrible. -Having an instructor with airline experience is a real treat, especially if you intend on going commercial. Pedro must be a real popular instructor with all his experience. -Wish we got to see more of the intro flight but it seems like pretty standard stuff. Although some instructors avoid doing spins on an intro flight just because you never know how some people's stomachs will react Haven't seen enough to make a complete judgment, but based of this video I would spend some money there.
Agreed with everything you say. One of the flight schools I instruct for have 172s that still have ash trays. I’m 22 years old and rarely do I ever instruct in a plane younger than I am. It’s normal territory. If you don’t want to pay an extra $50-$100 a flight go fly older aircraft. They get beat up every day anyways with smash and goes so why would a school buy brand new 172s? My main school just got a brand new $600k 172 gifted from Cessna since we won some video contest, but that’s the newest plane by at least 15 years.
@@dekeama I mean you don’t know what led them there. He could’ve asked for it. It’s not a terrible idea either bc if they’re taught spins from the very beginning they’ll know how to avoid them

Normally in-flight conversations are reserved to when you are at altitude and cruise, not when doing pattern work. Even then, performing a flying video interview might not be the safest practice. The instructor seemed very professional.

As someone who is a certified flight instructor as a living, this school seems great from the video. Plane is old but so are like 90% of all flight school planes. The maintenance is what matters. Pedro seems like a great CFI, but I personally would never take a first time student up to do spins on the first lesson. I rarely ever take primary students to do full spins at all. That being said who knows how they got to that point.
Agree, spins are a bit much for an intro flight or first lesson and there really isn't much to gain from seeing them at that stage. I'm wondering if that's normal for the flight school or if he was asked to do the craziest manuever just to make the video exciting.
I’m a student who’s done enough spins to be comfortable with them. That being said I wouldn’t have wanted to do them on my first lesson that’s for sure. Spiral dives at the absolute most.
I came here to say this. Private pilot myself... we didn't get into spin recovery till well into my flight training. No idea why you would spin a first time student. Other than that, he actually seemed like a very good instructor.

Same as a student pilot I don't think the cfi seemed that bad. Keep in mind most ga aircraft are not brand new by any means and are still flying because transport canada has strict maintenance requirements.
No gonna lie. I was looking forward to seeing a real unsafe flight training experience. But its very cool you were able to debunk those bad reviews and show that they do operate in a safe and conducive training environment. Good job.
Thats the problem with review sites. All it takes is ONE bad experience and someone with a chip on their shoulder and a tiny bit of tech knowledge to completely destroy a businesses reputation. From what I can see, Pedro was a first class instructor, the Cessna was VERY clean/well maintained, and this is a school I would DEFINITELY earn a few hours at.
I’m glad that these “one star review” videos also show the other side of the story and dispel inaccurate or unwarranted reviews. I’ve had quite a flying lessons from different schools and Pedro seemed a typical instructor who didn’t do anything different to any other flying school. Note that anyone can feel airsickness with any instructor and spin recovery is taught. In fact the noise in the background during the spin and the landing flare was the Cessna’s stall warning and is expected.
That’s because it’s all fake, the clown has never once went to a one star place, he’s a habitual liar. It’s common sense, even the best rated one will have 5 stars, you liberals are just too gullible to see the obvious
I’m a flight instructor, and the dramatic camerawork in the beginning zooming on the coroner van and “decommissioned” forgotten aircraft had me dying of laughter 😂😂 I’ve only been instructing for a little over a year. Pedro seems like a great instructor, you can tell by his demeanor. I However, I would never take a first time flyer up and dump him into a spin. Most would puke from stalls alone. The vice guy was tough. LOL. I was also questioning the weather- their cloud clearances for VFR are questionable but they could’ve gotten special VFR. Learning to fly isn’t easy, and it’s not for everyone. Many people who start don’t finish, unfortunately. The reviews are most likely from people who didn’t finish training or are frustrated with their lack of progress despite spending so much money. That’s what I’ve experienced looking at reviews for other flight schools. Anyway- really enjoyed the video through the eyes of a first time flyer! Taji looks like he’d be a great student😁
I doubt any competent instructor would do stalls and spins on a discovery flight unless asked to. Although I did do steep turns during mine. My guess is they asked if they could do something exciting to add drama to the video. Wouldn't be surprised if all the negative reviews were either from a previous issue the school had in the past with a particular instructor or a disgruntled student overreacting.
Stalls are the first manouver after learning to control attitude and power. Spins on the other hand it's usually taught but very unlikely to be performed to PP students.
Why would they need special VFR, they had enough altitude to do spins so the ceilings were at least 3000agl and viz was at least 6 miles. That’s nowhere near VFR minimums in controlled or uncontrolled airspace.
This is such a great episode, really felt like it was the first person to match tajis personality, Pedro seems like a real stand up guy who just loves flying. What a sweetheart 🥲
Pilot here: Pedro did great. A spin on the first flight mighta been a little much, but he was in control the whole time and did not ignore the flight even when he was being pressed for answers. And no... I’m not an employee of that flight school. 😂
Actually a pretty good instructor. And that’s a 150 or 152 aerobat... I’m not seeing anything terrible here. Also, I’ve never seen a general aviation airport that wasn’t littered with aircraft in various stages of disassembly.
I like how he thought the pre flight was because they want to calm you down about the aircraft’s condition. Nope, you do that every time, just in case something is wrong.
4:26, you blur out the Cessna's number for all but the first frame. Aviation-safety.net reports that plane had an incident on June 14th 2019, Engine failure during a training flight forced them to land on the highway. lol
Omg you're right I saw it too! Though it's not the trainer's fault because the engine failure occured during flight, and they actually made the right call to land on the highway. Fatalities and damages were listed as zero. If anything, this improves the school's reputation even more. Link to incident report: aviation-safety.net/wikibase/226261 Link to article: globalnews.ca/news/5395348/surrey-highway-plane-landing-follow/
Pedro seems competent, did everything expected of him. It's interesting how he demonstrated a full-spin so early on, but I assume that was specifically requested. That being said, The Cessna 152 Aerobat, as he notes at 8:37 is a very well equipped and quite rare airplane to find. If they put some budget into hiring more people like Pedro, taking the wreckage out of the apron, renovating the lounge and getting rid of the spooky trailer, I think the school could prove itself to be competitive on the national scale. One interesting thing was that the W&B Envelope was quite heavily loaded, especially for prolonged spins, but I assume the aerobat is only ever loadable in the utility category considering its applications.
Wow, Pedro seems so down to earth and humble! I like how he addressed the reviews in a calm and professional manner, while some other business owners Taji has covered didn't even want to consider their customers bad reviews and basically denied everything in an arrogant manner.
Confronting the Instructor while in the air was a bad and actually dangerous idea - while flying a pilot needs his full mental capacity in order for it to be safe.
You must have missed the episode where he confronted a tattoo artist mid session, or when he confronted someone in the middle of them piercing his nipple
At *certain phases* the pilot needs full attention, like takeoff and landing checklists. At 8:25, Pedro ignored Taji and did the pre landing check. In the US, during a checkride the FAA examiner may intentionally cause a distraction. You as the pilot in command must continue to fly the airplane and take care of checklists and not get sucked in by your passenger’s distraction.

I mean, if they yelled at a student because they almost got the instructor killed and were arrogant about it and not accept mistakes then they deserved it.
Exactly! Sounds to me like the reviewers were a bunch of weak snowflakes who have no business flying an airplane anyway.
Yup, it's usually due to the student not listening and doing something that just about ended them both.
As a pilot, I thought I would add my two cents,
-Flight center is at a towered airport, generally speaking, this is a good sign because it gives students good experience talking to ATC
-The airport itself seems to have a bit of a maintenance program, grass not being trimmed, scrap metal left loose.
Although some instructors avoid doing spins on an intro flight just because you never know how some people's stomachs will react
Haven't seen enough to make a complete judgment, but based of this video I would spend some money there.
I think Pedro went for the spin because of 3:09. He probably thought that Taji was an adrenaline junkie and wanted to learn some cool moves.
Absolutely no reason to do spins on a first flight lesson. Very poor decision.

Yeah Pedro for airplane president ✈️
Why would they need special VFR, they had enough altitude to do spins so the ceilings were at least 3000agl and viz was at least 6 miles. That’s nowhere near VFR minimums in controlled or uncontrolled airspace.

If they put some budget into hiring more people like Pedro, taking the wreckage out of the apron, renovating the lounge and getting rid of the spooky trailer, I think the school could prove itself to be competitive on the national scale. Ye for sure. If I saw a whole camera crew id make sure everything was good
The editing of these never cease to amaze me every episode!
When that 5th ⭐️ finally Came down I screamed at my TV “hell yeah cmon now give it to ya boy Pedro!!”
Settle down cowboy ...
Was this the first 5 star?
Pedro seems like a decent pilot. My only criticism is spin training a guy who's never flown before that's nervous taking his first lesson. Not the best way to get him to return.
He said he'd like to fly like "👈👆👉👇" so..
Am sure they requested it for the show.
Spin recovery is flashy, which makes good video content.
I’m certain he wouldn’t do that for a normal into lesson.
this is the best vice series to come out in the last few years, please keep them going, i need more
Pedro was so nice and cool, probably mean competitors that wrote those reviews
Dude. People pay extra to learn how to get out of a stall. And he tought you on your first run. This guy is a true teacher that'll make you learn by doing.
Paying extra to learn how to get out of a stall? Its literally part of every flight school curriculum, and a standard maneuver that is part of the PPL checkride.
Wait so on his first flight, Pedro let him lift off, fly a bunch, annnnd land it himself? Pedro has balls of steel dude and this is where I wanna learn at. It seems so fricken easy wtf
I think Pedro always has the ability to take control of the air craft if anything happens to go wrong
cfi's will "fly with you" usually they tell what to do and will guide you with their controls because the pilot and co pilot controls are locked together.
I would love to have an instructor like Pedro. He seems like a calm and collected Pilot who creates an excellent learning environment for a student. This just show's that all reviews should be questioned.
His lack of emotion in that nose dive was hilarious!!
The random blurring and unblurring of the tail number was hilarious.
I live near this flight school and am interested in going for a "spin" with Pedro. I have almost no interest in being a pilot but recovering from a dive would be a bucket list tick for sure
Do you not like to be a pilot?
Y'all giving PhilipSoloTV his dues?
they do it way better tho
@@theselenashow1 wrong.
This was released before his video
@@HotDiceMiniatures his videos are like 4 minutes long , is super random and he never actually properly reviews the place or talks to the owners.
