10:42 😁 I'm so glad you remembered! 🧡 Yes each time we press the atomizer, liquid is being pumped out on the downstroke and air (bubbles) are being pumped in on the upstroke to equalize the pressure in the bottle. Otherwise, a negative pressure differential would crack the glass. Unfortunately, some of those air bubbles get trapped in the tube on their way down and oxidize everything they touch. The same thing happens when the nozzle is exposed to air over time. Tiny little bubbles make their way down the tube to replace the carrier alcohol that seeps ever so slowly out of the aperture. That's why most of the perfume that's lost to evaporation is usually lost during the first few months of use. As the highly volatile alcohol makes its way out of the bottle, the remaining perfume becomes more concentrated and heavier, resulting in less seepage and fewer bubble problems. Yay! 💜 Ps, (first-aid) alcohol wipes also work exceptionally well for removing unwanted perfume! Finally a use for them that doesn't involve injections. 😄

Nice explanation of oxidation in an atomizer! I’ll second your suggestion to try rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol on those “scrubbers”.

    Hello Jana
I just wanted to say that I enjoy your videos so much. I love your vocabulary when you describe and explain perfumes and I love how versatile your recommendations are. A lot of popular youtubers are a lot about heavy sweet and expensive niche perfumes. You have a big range of low price to niches from lighter, fresh fragrance to warm floral etc. Your videos also have this calm vibe and it makes it so enjoyable to watch 💞

Very complete recap' on the basics :) ! just can't help doing like you do and smell A LOT of fragrances in store. I write the name of the fragrances on the blotters, store them in a paper I folded in a accordion shape tied up and down with small rubber bands, bring them back home, take them out and re-smell them, and store them side by side in little plastic bags I roll, to keep the blotters separated. This done I can smell them again and again at home for 3 days to a week and make a pre-choice. Then I return to the store and test 2 or 3 on skin (phase 2)... Last phase is going back another time and being perfumed for the day with the chosen one. In the store vs at home I agree with the fact that the scent is perceived differently, for many reasons it's also the case from one day to another. Thank you for the baking soda trick, I'll definetely try that ! personaly I found that rubbing oil (kitchen normal oil) on my hands before washing them can do a little more than simple soap sometimes. By the way I agree with your definition of niche ;) !

great video..I really love it..I am going to answer the question. why does perfume smell different in store vrs home?
in my experience it depends on how long does this fragrance on display ..means fragrance does change after you start using it..the best time is after 2 to 3 months of first use..some like Decadence changes quickly..that's why some people pick bad note like pickles..so you have to use it before 1.5 to 2 years..if you buy a fragrance and you feel it is not the same smell as in the store ..use it 8 to 10 times..restore it..revisit it after 2 to 4 months..will be as you want..🌹🌹🌹

When I’ve got a scrubber I want to get off I first use an oil based makeup remover. The Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm works well for me. Then I use soap and it usually takes most of it off.

I sprayed my Coco Chanel Noir on neck one spray then I spray again my turtleneck poncho Leaves a very nice trail through out the day. It was what I needed. It didn’t overwhelm my nose. I didn’t even spray on wrist. I actually find this very effective for me. I absolutely love Coco Chanel Noir. You’re correct about layering. I tend to layer my single notes fragrances combo with another fragrance with multiple scent notes. That works very well. Vanilla and chocolate layers well with anything!

Great video! I learned so much! I love layering fragrances that have a note in common - like orange blossom or jasmine. I also pair fragrances that have a shorter life with those that are more long wearing. Bonus points if I like the opening of the short life frag better than the long life frag. So fun to play with these combinations!

Just yesterday, i sprayed a sample of Girl of Now on my wrist. This was the second time. First time I had a headache. Which also happened yesterday and I realized it's the perfume thats giving me the headache. I immediately washed my wrist w hand soap. Twice. Then I washed it with dishwashing soap. Still there but way less. I sprayed alcohol and the fragrance was gone.

Yanna! I have noticed you lean towards feminine fragrences. Id be interested to hear your favorite unisex fragrences list! I don't like to smell perfumes in stores, especially when I've smelled many different types of perfumes. I have totally passed over perfumes then got a sample and was bliwn away by it! I'm definitely the non-commital type.. I will buy a tiny sample, and if i really like it- buy a 5ml so i can get a real week+ idea before buying a bottle and think this has saved me so much money in the long run.. I'm also subscribed to several different fragrance subscription boxes and have found that most don't smell the same as a sample from a dept store. There could be so many reasons WHY they smell old/spoiled/different. For example- I wws initially in love with Delina and Exclusif; ordered both in decant places and they smelled FOUL!! Maybe I've just had bad luck?

In my early 20s I started an office job. My signature sent is Alien ( give you an idea of types I reach for) I was looking for a fragrance that is office appropriate but not boring. Yet not in your face “ boss woman hear me roar at the office “ ether. Este Lauder Sensuous had just come out at that time and it was perfect. It smells pleasant, sophisticated and attractive… light and airy, something you can breathe comfortably around. YET. Intimidating enough not to have the audacity to ask what fragrance I’m wearing.

I like a lot of very expensive fragrences..are there any gray market websites that you feel are legit? I have noticed that a lot of popular fragrences *with very simple bottles especially- think Le Labo or Byredo* are being faked and sold cheap. I really love Byredo and Le Labo, but cannot afford their crazy prices 😅 I'd love to get a discount but not get a fake! Much appreciated 🙏

One time I needed to waste some time at an airport, so I went browsing in the Duty Free shop. Of course, I wanted to try some fragrances, but I was afraid of ending up with a scrubber on my skin for several hours on a plane. So I sprayed blotters with Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet and Absolutely Blooming…which I felt was pretty disciplined, sticking to only 2 scents!
I liked them both when I was sniffing them in the shop, but was silly and did not write down which was which…and although I thought I put them in different pockets, by the time I got to my destination, they had somehow found each other and intermingled….Their scent baby was amazing!!!!
Once I got home, I ended up buying a bottle of each and often layer them. I think because they are in the same flanker family, they share enough of the same notes that they don’t clash. 2 sprays of Blooming Bouquet to 1 spritz of Absolutely Blooming is one of my favorite autumn combos. Thanks for a fun video!

Video idea: I'd love to hear your opinion on why EDP is so widely discussed and sold as opposed to pure parfum which, being the highest concentration level, I would expect to be the preferred level for consumers. I'm new to fragrances, but if perfume concentration levels are anything like gold karats, then shouldn't lower concentrations ie. high dilutions essentially be an overpriced rip-off? Is pure parfum not popular because, like US jewellers hate selling 22K and 24K gold, it saves too much money for the buyer and makes them very little?

I’m late getting to this video, but I’m wondering about how much coordinating you do with your shampoos, body washes, deodorants, etc. and how important that is? And if someone is really into fragrance, is it best to always use unscented laundry detergent so it doesn’t interfere?

I always think that those sample bottles in stores are very far from what you get when you buy your bottle, because they spend all their "life" under and/or on very sharply lit shelves. So, not a dark cool place. Very hot, very sharply lit. If you grab a bottle and is less than half full, what you smell, will for sure be different than what you get.
I found the perfect layering combo. I always wanted the perfect coffee scent and Kilian's Intoxicated gets close to that, but it is a bit too spicy and the coffee gets lost. I have had Mancera's Aoud Cafe for a year and I love it, but it's too woody, it needs something a bit extra, but not syrupy sweet. Recently I got Zara's Creatively Shanghai, and boy is it delicious! The combo between the Aoud Cafe and Creatively Shanghai is to die for. It also doesn't matter how you spray them more is more!

    • @TheScented
      @TheScented  2 роки тому +2

Spray the heavier fragrance first, otherwise the lighter one won't come through.
You can spray in the same spot or in different spots; if you spray in different spots then the layering will only be effective in the silliage.
Hope that helps, by the way feel free to address me directly as I do read all of the comments :)

The thing is that there is alot of fake full bottles out there on « discount » websites and sometimes people get a legit sample from the original company and a fake bottle on discount, and they think the samples are intentionally stronger. :)

I never set out on a shopping trip to the mall wearing perfume. My first stop when I arrive is a perfume counter where I will generously spray a single scent with the tester. Then, I have the rest of my time shopping for the scent to dry down. Sometimes I decide before I even finish shopping, but often I have found that on drive home, the scent coming up to me from my wrists on the steering wheel will sell the fragrance or not.

I’m looking at investing in my first couple full bottles. Some of the ones I’ve tried that I like are Gentle Fluidity Gold, Gris Charnel, Tihota, I am Trash, Oud for Greatness, Intense Cafe, Biblioteque, Gypsy Water, Reckless Pour Femme… I want to start with something special and uncommon (aka not Baccarat or Delina) to wear as a signature scent and then a wow’em special occasion scent.
