I believe that this is a video that is needed in the Booktube community, because participants in this community and readers in general should know that it is not about how many books they need, but what they are getting out of what it is they are reading that matters most. It reminds of the the Spongebob episode where Spongebob made one Krabby Patty of great quality, while Neptune made a thousand Krabby Patties that were disgusting. People are going to approach reading differently, but it should be what works for them and what makes reading a positive experience for them. I would steer away from what schools do, because schools will often discourage a love for reading, especially when they force people to read at certain times, read certain things, and think about what they are reading in certain ways. I agree completely that rereading helps you understand a particular work more and gives you a clearer understanding about its content. Some people just want to read for a good plot, but again, it comes down to personal expectations. I prefer to write in a notebook, but I can see where one can make that work if they wish to do so. Thank you for your helpful advice and as you recommend with your reading, I should make a point to rewatch this video if I want to actively take notes about strengthening my reading, because last year was not an incredible reading year, but I am aiming to improve this year. -Josh

Hi Josh! I'm so glad you found value in this video. You're right that the focus should be on the quality and personal enjoyment of reading rather than the quantity.
Your point about schools sometimes discouraging a love for reading is a valid concern, and it's crucial to cultivate a passion for reading outside of those constraints. And rereading is a powerful tool for understanding and appreciating the content more deeply.
I appreciate your kind words and am thrilled that you'll rewatch the video to continue strengthening your reading skills. I hope this year proves to be an incredible reading year for you! Keep up the good work and happy reading.

I love the paragraph of chapter notes! I’ve done that before with self help, but hadn’t thought about it with other types of books.

You're very welcome! I'm glad to hear that you found my advice helpful. David Copperfield is a fantastic novel, but it can be quite a lengthy read. Remember to take your time and enjoy the story, and don't feel discouraged if it takes you a while to finish it. By implementing the tips I shared, you should be able to make progress and stay motivated throughout the process. Best of luck with your reading!

I sometimes question myself what kind of person I would have become without my love of reading. A quite different one for sure.
In my mind I always want to slow down my reading, but in reality it never works. I think there is some kind of obsession going on. At least it is a good obsession to develop. But I am definitely a different reader than I was twenty years ago and also than I was ten years ago. Reading is able to change you constantly and that's one of the best things about it.

My impulse is to devour books. Read as many as I can, as fast as I can. This compulsion has only grown stronger as the years go by. I started off as a casual reader in my youth and have gone through separate phases, so I totally agree with you. And if we're going to be obsessed about something, I think there are worse things to be obsessed about than reading!

What superb advice! And your statement of "Quality is more important than quantity"--who knew?! Since getting an account with Goodreads, it seems their "Reading Challenge" of reading as many books as one can predict for a calendar year, has partially guided many towards the quantity over quality mentality and that has influenced me as well to a point. I still try to make good choices however. Next year, I many skip the "Reading Challenge" as a result of your advice and think more about specific goals. I am a subscriber to your channel due to your more intellectual approach. Thanks so much, Juan!

I appreciate your subscription and comments. I'm over the moon that you like my content and feel it adds something to your reading experience. One can read many books and choose them well. It is important to focus on intent and good choices rather than sheer numbers.
