      Growing up in London during the 50/60s I knew a lot of street musicians, some of them were streets ahead of their 'pop' contemporaries in terms of talent and they, without doubt, inspired better known bands. The last thing they wanted was to be better known or celebrities.

      Because musicians Could not OWN there own music, even if they wrote it. The contracts would RIP OFF the artists in favor of the Record Producers and Studios keeping the musicians in the Poor House. The musicians would have to try to sue each other over the COPY RIGHTS. Although I don't know the details, Trump attempted to address this during his time in office with one of his "Presidential Bills" (Sorry I'm Canadian not sure of the proper American name for it)

The same way The Pres, opened or closed the PIPE LINE that kept getting opened by the REP'S then shut down by the DEM'S. Little Larry had all the moves and guitar licks before Chuck Berry why is it that no one has ever heard of them. They are the pioneers of rock and roll!

    • @RodCalidge
      @RodCalidge Місяць тому +3

      Not quite. For 1 thing, Chuck wrote Johhny B Goode and performed it for years before the Collins kids, so Little Larry definitely did not have "all the moves and licks" before Chuck. Secondly, I don't know of very many songs, If any, that the Collins wrote. I seem to remember them just covering other people's stuff.

    This was incredible music for 1953. What you have to understand is that in 1953 most singers were not performers. They came out and stood in front of a mic and sang their song, thanked you and walked away. To see Larry then, was almost unbelieveable. It's still incredible.

      This is roughly November/December, 1958 on Town Hall Party. But the Collins Kids had already developed an original Rockabilly style, and at ages 13(Lorrie) and 11(Larry), they were already rocking on THP in February, 1954! That's BEFORE Bill Haley and the Comets released "Rock Around The Clock" in April, 1954. before Elvis released his first record in July, 1954, before Chuck Berry's first record in May 1955 and before Buddy Holly's first record in May, 1957. This incredible Sister-Brother Duo are NOT in the R&R Hall of Fame, but they should have been some of the very first inductees.

    The Collins kids were already rocking on the Town Hall Party in February, 1954 at ages 13 (Lorrie) and 11 (Larry), BEFORE Elvis released his first Sun Records recording in July, 1954 and before Chuck Berry's first recording released in May 1955. Buddy Holly's first recording wasn't released until May, 1957. So the Collins Kids are rightfully and correctly considered original Rockabilly pioneers, as they had created a Rockabilly style all their own even before Bill Haley and the Comets released "Rock Around The Clock" in April 1954.

      Because Jann Wenner and his hand-picked Board only allow their favorites to get into the R&R HOF. There are definitely some people in there who don't belong, and there are still a lot of people (e.g., the Collins Kids, Paul Revere & The Raiders, Iron Maiden, Foreigner, etc.) who are on the outside looking in. The HOF is a joke.

      The Collins Kids continued to play together into the 1960s, then separately, and occasionally together, thereafter. Larry wrote songs, including several that were hits when other artists recorded them.
      Lawrencine Mary “Lorrie” Collins died in 2018. Larry is still alive, although I think he is largely retired from performing.
