That bell has been signaling tornado warnings in Kansas since my childhood.
If you heard it, it meant things got serious.
If I heard right Jim O’Donnell himself found the bell sound
KAKE, thank you so much for no longer putting in techno music when breaking in programming for a Tornado Warning. I take pulsating cowbells any day.
Love the cowbell and the sound that goes off for a severe thunderstorm warning
KAKE has used that same sound for at least 50 years.
@@kevinwilkin1427 yes I know :)
Almost as annoying as the old WCCo Radio Klaxon(which is a good thing as it catches your attention)
What may have been confusing to people is that 21st Street is called 70th Street in Butler County. Jay really knew the Andover area. He was very specific and was right on with the track of the storm. I saw the tornado cross 21st street a mile west of my location at 21st and Tumbleweed. It moved really fast but looked like it was moving in slow motion at the same time!
Jay lives in that area so ya I’m sure he knew where everything is at he did a great job that with Frank I’m not so big on that Cameron guy
The Andover Tornado looked like its own little storm cell on the radar. Almost by itself.
Andover Tornado: EF3
Rosalia Tornado: EF1 (Radar may have looked more ominous, but not as strong as Andover).
The Andover Tornado touched down at the very moment they went on the air...8:10pm .. On the little map on the left hand corner showed Butler Co in the red (Tornado Warning). Then, at 8:14pm - Thank you to storm spotter Kintigh for directing Jay's attention to that.
1:06 - Having a reporter give you a detailed survey of the tornado damage NEVER works.Leave that to the NWS. "Destroyed" could mean 1 wall gone to some people. Anyway, report active Tornado Warning FIRST.... talk about any obvious damage later.
What was up with Jay? He sounded very short and grouchy. This was kind of uncomfortable to watch......... Very different than previous severe weather coverages.
I do remember hearing that cowbell in the 1970's and 1980's and it would scare me to death when I would hear that you knew there was a Tornado on the ground! The electric piano solo for watches and non tornado warnings was less worry sounding. I became an avid weather watcher in the early 1980's thanks to 24 hr. cable and The Weather Channel.
wish i could use the cowbell as my ringtone!
Wow!
Just found this. You guys are using the cowbell from the 1970s again!
There was a tornado in my state before
My grandpa lost his whole house
