  • This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. "Since when is the rape or assault of any human being something to laugh about?'' Anthony Wyatt, Graterford State Prison resident, talks about the public misperception that prison inmates are less-than-human and the dehumanizing prejudice toward convicted persons.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Very powerful! I see him as a future leader in some capacity when he returns to society. He is clearly a better man now and I hope he gets released soon.

Amazing words of wisdom and truth. So thankful that you shared such powerful knowledge and humanized a rather dehumanized population. God bless you, Mr. Wyatt.

This is a brilliant speech: compact, concise, precise, logical and moving. What means can be taken to make it go viral? I ask as one who teaches in prison and as a friends and admirer of UIUC Education Justice Project, who forwarded this video to my vigilant attention. Watching the video against the background of my reading and rereading Frederick Douglass (for use in classes) is specially powerful.
