I work ten hour days either standing or walking around on concrete flooring and experience lots of pain in my feet and legs. I have found some relief with Hoka shoes, giving myself foot rubs, and some wall stretches. Is there a “shoe” you would recommend for the type of work I do? Must be closed toe, closed heel. I’m so glad I found your channel.
Such awesome content! It’s funny how for all other parts of the body people love to promote movement so it’s strange that the feet are so often neglected and can be that missing link to good recovery! Love your work 👏🏼

Thanks
Love to hear the journey to barefoot running. Impossible to ever go back! The way out is simple! 2 days left to sign up for my May ready to run class that will get you out of pain and running how you want to. Grahamtuttle.com/R2R
"Too much too soon" is the most common cause of pain after barefoot running. Barefoot running places significantly more stress on the foot than barefoot walking. If you are new to it, you need to be running less than a kilometer for your barefoot runs. Even as you progress, you will always need to stop sooner than you think you need to. Working up to even something as modest as a 5km run will take a bit of time.
If your feet hurt, stop landing on your heels and stop wearing shoes. Work hard to build stong soles. You'll get there. Orthotics are just about selling you shoes to fix shoe problems.
Do you have any advice for basketball players about shoes, indoor and outdoor. I play a lot of basketball indoor but i don’t know about any “foot healthy” shoes that there are. Specifically for outdoor, as the function for outdoor basketball isn’t the priority but mainly the durability if that makes sense. If anyone has any advice please let me know
So I just recently got into trying to fix my feet, as I have a very weak arch, not necessarily flat, but they do collapse under pressure. Also, I’ve had problems with my big toes cracking constantly, especially every time I raise my toe or or have to bend my toes like when walking or doing calf raises. Its happening in my ITP joint as well and I can’t find anything in regards to how to fix it. Any words of advice would help me greatly 🙏🏻
I have Achilles tendinopathy which has stopped me from running. Can you please do a video or list of exercises for it so I can start running marathons again. I have not run properly since Covid. Thanks
Hi, I have had problems with my feet for years now. The say it is plantar fasciitis. I have very high arches to. Is it a good idea to try barefoot training/running? I don’t have pain when running. Its mostly when I stand for long periods.
Grahamtuttle.com/ff I’d fix your feet first before jumping into barefoot activity and training. Doing the right strength work will get you out of pain and open the door to whatever activities you’re looking to do!
Hi, been watching your videos for a while. I damaged my feet many years ago ego lifting and gain too much weight in process. Doctors gave me orthothics to use. Basically my feet overpronate. Can that be fixed? I am working on sled, tib raises and balance work. Be good to get your view. Would love to fix thus issue.

Hi Graham, a friend recommended your channel and I have a question. I inherited my dad's size 13, narrow feet, and no arch ... extremely flat feet. Are there specific exercises I should be focusing on, or will following your recommended exercises in general help address any shortcomings these things present to me ... especially as I get on in age. I have no pain currently, but earlier this year, I woke one day with pain but couldn't determine any cause. There was swelling and the pain seemed to migrate a bit, but ultimately resolved on its own, which has me concerned and wanting to take preventative measures. Thanks for your work and for sharing your learning and expertise!

Well, reach out to me on Instagram or in emails directly if you have already bought the ready to run/functional feet program and we will get your issues solved.
What advice do you offer for athletes that need to wear cleats for sport? Obviously strengthening the feet outside of competition is important, but any special advice for competitors that still have to wear tight cleats for competition?
It’s tough. Not many good options out there yet for wide toe box cleats. Train as much barefoot or as close to it as you can, save the cleats for in the game. Do some strength work before and after wearing performance shoes. instagram.com/reel/CjqZdKpAj0I/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=
I dislocated my ankle a year and a half ago, will I get the range of motion back through doing this? Doctors said I wouldn't but I feel like there's always a way.
There is always a way. It will take time and consistency! I have dislocated my shoulder 11 times and have full range of motion after a lot of work. You’ll regain confidence in the joint by strengthening it too.
Hi Graham! I've got a question about transitioning from constantly wearing running shoes made for overpronation, with customized insoles/orthotics for strong overpronation added to that since i roll inward alot when i walk, to barefoot shoes. Since i've realised that i have weak feet with weak arches (not rigid tho) that need exercise i've been walking barefoot alot the last 2 weeks wich i've been enjoying and seem to get better at and i can walk a couple of miles without problems. When i have to wear a shoe however i have to add the orthotics/soles or my knees and back aches. Theres no good middleground for me right now between absolute bare feet and very supportive shoes with orthotics. Are barefoot shoes even an option for me? And if so how do i transition given the circumstances and do you have a brand/model to recommend a narrow overpronating size 12? Thanks for the great content. //Flatfoot
Altra Escalante or Solstice is a good middle ground. Spending as much time as you can barefoot pain free is going to help in the long run & help you recognize the right movements to replicate while in shoes. If you need help on what strength work means, my ready to run program is absolutely perfect for you and getting you to where you want to be.
I have an easier step one, work in flat minimal shoes. I bought a pair of overly cushioned shoes that used to kill my feet. It sucked because they were expensive. I switched to extra wide vans and after a week of minor discomfort i was able to walk around barefoot without issue for the first time in a while. Get shoes that are less shoe and it will change your life.
Extra wide vans are not a bad choice! Shoes definitely play a huge role, but transitioning too quickly if your feet are not strong enough can cause more issues too. I will have a video coming out soon about how to transition safely & what to consider during the transition!
Graham, have you ever had to deal with turf toe? I've been using barefoot shoes for about 10 months now and feel great, but recently got some bad turf toe.
Yes! It’s a real pain in the butt. Do what you can to keep it moving without much load. Blood flow will promote healing and be patient. Focus on both set of feet, ankles, and lower legs to ensure you’re keeping everything strong while you probably start to alter movement by compensating elsewhere creating other issues.
No. Competition shoes should be used in competition. They do have their advantages. Do the rehab for your feet after using them though. Training should be as close to barefoot as possible.
I’m just becoming aware of how tight and locked up my right foot is and I don’t know if I should go to a doctor , a physiotherapist (think you guys call them a physical therapist ) or to work with an online programme My ankle swelled up badly after I got injured in a football game (soccer) and I had so physio on it and I can’t remember much else . The pain went away and it’s been fine for 10-20 years. But now I started trying the kneesovertoes stuff I see how limited my forward knee movement is. It’s like it’s hitting into something. The side of the ankle actually seems swollen , still after all these years
Hi Graham ! I've been thinking about joining your ready to run program and I wonder if you will be talking about hallux bursitis. I've watched a lot of content on how to rehabilitate feet and all, but saw nothing on that so I still feel stuck with this problem at the moment. Would you say it would just go away with the help of your program ?
My calf’s always feel like they are tight even when the more exercise n stretching I did for them the tightness was still there, I did get minor relief once did stretch but came back not long after Is there something I can do better?
Hi. Thanks for your videos. I'm 53 and was in shoes from age 8 until recently. I had only minor issues, some small loss of mobility in my big toe and I noticed it takes a great deal of effort for me to be able to curl my toes. I can only slightly (I used to be able to pick things up off the floor). I read about the benefits of going barefoot. So I started walking my dog (about 15 minutes daily) barefoot around the neighborhood. I've been doing it for two weeks now. At first the concrete sidewalk and little pebbles were irritating and a bit painful. But I pushed through and after a week or so, it started to get better. Problem is that now, 2 weeks in, I'm having overall foot soreness when walking, almost like muscle or bone soreness. It's everywhere, but especially the balls of my feet. Reminds me of wearing high heels almost (though not that painful) Is this normal or should I put my shoes back on?
Hi! It would be normal to feel soreness after going barefoot like that. You’re using muscles that haven’t been used like this in a long time. Give yourself time to transition. Wear some shoes to let things recover and then go back barefoot when you’re feeling good again. I would suggest to walk on the grass or softer surfaces when you can, avoiding the hard concrete if possible when going barefoot.
@thebarefootsprinter Thank you so much for answering my question! I would love yo walk in grass, but here in Florida, Fire ants and Velvet ants are a major concern 😟 I was stung by a velvet ant while wearing flip-flops once. I thought i was going to meet my maker! Is it okay to walk on pavement? If not, do you have suggestions on how to avoid possible stings in the grass?
@@juliebrady24 Just my suggestion, if you can buy some thick battle ropes lay them parallel on the floor and try walking on them bare foot. Put a sheet of newspaper on the floor and sit on a chair and use your toes to pull it towards you like in a curling manner. Helped me build strength in my arches.
@@joshuadimercurio2193 apologies, I will remove this from the description of the video. I am removing this 30 day mobility product from my offering as it has been causing more issues recently than helping! If you’re interested in a mobility product, take a look at grahamtuttle.com/AM_Landing
Hi graham, question about my big toe joint. I switched to barefoot over a year ago, starting with crocs and Nike free and eventually xero HFS, which I found I can play tennis in very well. However, playing tennis in the HFS I pushed off on my left big toe joint, and something snapped. I am still able to play tennis, run, etc but it has been slightly swollen ever since. Any ideas 1) for strengthening to get past this injury and 2) for other barefoot type shoes for playing tennis? Thanks!
Well if you heard or felt something snap & it’s been swollen since, I would suggest getting a doctors opinion on that. I don’t think it was the shoe, I personally play tennis in my vibram EVO and various other barefoot shoes. Love to hear you’re in barefoot shoes nonetheless! Otherwise, for pre-hab & re-hab, the guidance remains the same. Explore all the pain free movements and exercises you can do, to get as much blood flow to the area that you can.
@@thebarefootsprinter hi Graham, you were right - went to the doctor and it’s a problem with my sesamoid bone. The guidance from my doctor involves custom orthotics and avoiding problematic activities. Do you have ideas for exercises where I’m able to keep the big toe from bending under pressure?

Hi Graham, thanks for an awesome video. Since you are already known as the barefoot runner, I would like to ask you about knees. I made a transition to barefoots (vivos) in November last year, and have been keen on getting 10k steps every day mostly in barefoots, but I had a period when my left foot struggled so I used regular shoes for few weeks. 3 weeks ago I started running as well (in vivos on pavement) and now I'm starting to "feel" my knees. It's not pain, as I experienced that, but I can definitely feel it when I try to do small jumps, run, or just bounce on top of my feet. I don't know how to proceed, on one hand I want to run, or the other I don't want to over do it and then not being able to run/exercise for a long time. What are your thoughts, or what would you recommend me going forward? Thank you and keep up the good work ✌️
Hi Filip! Appreciate your support. What I would recommend is my Ready to Run program. 28 day program designed to strengthen your feet and lower legs, and solve for issues exactly like this. After completion of that program, you will be... ready to run again :) Grahamtuttle.com/rtr

Aww, you’re too kind
it's because of his feet. they are the windows to the soul haha
Reminds me of wearing high heels almost (though not that painful)
Is this normal or should I put my shoes back on?
I would love yo walk in grass, but here in Florida, Fire ants and Velvet ants are a major concern 😟
I was stung by a velvet ant while wearing flip-flops once. I thought i was going to meet my maker!
Is it okay to walk on pavement? If not, do you have suggestions on how to avoid possible stings in the grass?
Find a track or turf field!
@@marabunta1980 Thanks so much!
Do you have a specific program I can follow??
Grahamtuttle.com/RTR
Such awesome content!
I texted MOVE to the number, how long will it take till I get the month program, just want to make sure I did it right :)
Unfortunately, it is only available for US numbers. If you’re in the US and didn’t get it by now, try again!
@@thebarefootsprinter I live in the US, I tried it earlier today and I just tried it again, hopefully it’ll work, thanks!
I texted move, it’s been a few days and I still haven’t gotten the program. I do live in the US, am I doing something wrong?
@@thebarefootsprinter I live in the US, and tried it a few more times and it's been a few days.
Is there any other way to get it to work?
@@joshuadimercurio2193 apologies, I will remove this from the description of the video. I am removing this 30 day mobility product from my offering as it has been causing more issues recently than helping!

@@thebarefootsprinter thanks! I may have to try the vibrams
@@madisonbourbon4869 sorry to hear that, doing as much as you can within one of my ready to run classes is your best bet. You’ll have access to me and my support coaches to help you work through these issues.
@@thebarefootsprinter I’ll check into that, thanks graham
how can I know which shoes works for street running ?

Does this apply to 2nd toe capsulitis as well?
Yes
@@thebarefootsprinter do you know what the root cause is? Or does it not matter and just do the program above?
@@henryg3702 could be any number of variables on what caused it, don’t want to speculate without knowing the variables. What I do know is that my program & coaches are going to help you fix it!
Maybe : 1:29 , could work not sure

After completion of that program, you will be... ready to run again :)

So orthotics are like glasses?
Exactly. I’m writing about this now!!

I wish i could cut up patients' orthotics every time I see them... 🤦♀️
There is a time and place for them, just not a forever thing!
