What frustrates me the most is breadwinners of the family suddenly turning into 'entrepreneurs'. You want to invest 100k dollars into an experiment? Do it while you're young and single. Don't make your children take the risk so you can follow your passions.
@@gotgunpowder it's sad that you got that out of this comment. Imagine trying to get more bread by continuously buying magic beans I stead of bread. That's what's going on here. And the magic beans cost the equivalent of 2 or 3 advanced university degrees. Would you rather have worthless beans or a uni fund for your kids? Good luck with your own family, though I truly hope you don't have one because they would deserve better than a selfish spender as the main breadwinner.
CDN$380,000 is a huge amount for some families. It’s hard to hear about someone taking out large loans to finance a dream, especially when they then buy so much inventory without sales.
I am 100% willing to admit that I only watch the dumpster fire pitches. There could be some truly innovative products that come through the Canuck den and I’ll never know about them.
It's insane how people think they have a great idea/problem solved, then invest a ton of money without doing their homework. It's really sad. Love their passion, effort but they fail at the very basic principles of business 101.

Plus even with low income elderly and disabled and the Trillium plan you are not covered for all medications and especially if you have cancer or another debilitating disease
Good point. As an entrepreneur myself, when I see something like this I ask whether I'm doing the same thing. Working my butt off, putting in money, and making some returns. Always, just enough "hope" there to keep going. Love my own product. Still, all of my sales are "genuine", and I have repeat customers. @@AverageAngel Thanks so much! I was just thinking-out-loud in response to your "Most entrepreneurs are like this". "It's hard to know where you're at". Indeed! If there's one repeat lesson from DD and Shark Tank it's "What are your sales?". They can put up with a net loss in the early years, but there must be genuine sales. "Genuine", as in not to friends and family, and not bought at huge marketing cost (eg. $10 marketing to $1 sales). They also want to see *increasing* sales, yearly. We see many, many entrepeneurs on these shows who are "passionate" about their product and believe in it, and sometimes the idea looks good, but you see the dragons telling them to cut their losses and get out if the sales aren't there. The only exceptions I see are rare, and are people who have a formidable record before this particular business. They've made a fortune once or twice from their own ideas, have energy and contacts, and show that they are all over the numbers and the market. They'll get a good hearing despite low numbers, and even a competition between the dragons for the deal. For myself, I have a boutique business which has been running for years and only turned a small profit, however yearly it has repeat sales and new sales - and strong reviews in its niche. At the moment, 2023, it is stagnating. I do need to show increasing sales quickly - according to my own rules I've thought up here! :) "Even friends and family who tell you the truth, it's just their estimation of what the truth is. The game needs to change? What? Golf courses are literally getting longer every year because of changing club technology. The game is already going through a massive change.
Um, no. What he did is stupid, and they had every right to tear him a new one. In debt with 2 kids and a wife? Years of saving? A massive inventory for 0 logical reason? I really love this guy actually. Nice family and works hard as a truck driver trying to make a dream come through. Nevertheless, as soon as he said “open a center”, it was over. I can’t even think of a more irrelevant and pointless endeavor for what he’s trying to do. It’s like opening up a barber shop solely so you can sell your hair gel. I hope he sells off his inventory and cuts losses before it gets worse.
The aspiring Entrepreneur may not have a viable product, but the absolute offensiveness of most of the Dragons is unacceptable. Communication on the Den needs improvement. Verbal cruelty isn't the answer.
