I love the King of Limbs. Took me a while to come round to it but now I think it is one of their most daring albums. The live performance of the album from The Basement is phenominal! This is my favourite version of Bloom: ua-cam.com/video/EdmL835q9To/v-deo.html
The album version of TKOL just doesn't do it for me. It just sounds so flat. Basement TKOL on the other hand, is one of the best things they've ever done, as far as I'm concerned. The tracks just come to life, as if they were designed to be played live.
I’d really love to see you react to Thom Yorkes solo work. I’ve always thought that tkol is much more in line with his personal work, but often his projects feel a lot more fleshed out. The eraser is a personal favourite, and probably a good one to start with
The Eraser, Tomorrow's Modern Boxes and Anima all have some great stuff on it. My personal favourites include A Brain In A Bottle, Twist, Black Swan, The Mother Lode and Hearing Damage which isn't on an album.
OHHHH YEAH ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE RADIOHEAD: WORST TO BEST Hey Smags, during your reaction of Beach House's Bloom, you said at 9:00 you would do a Minecraft lets-play if the video got 300 likes. The video has 888 likes, yet for some reason I can't seem to find your Minecraft let's play (I would also accept a reaction/review of Hot Fuss from the Killers
Definitely The King of Limbs is back heavy! The 4 best songs on it. Codex kills me every time…. I HIGHLY recommend you to check out the bonus tracks such as The Daily Mail, Staircase, Supercollider and The Butcher. A sadly missed opportunity not to include them on that album
I don't think The Daily Mail fits the records vibe but the rest for sure. I wish Yorke did more to flesh out the albums sound afterwards instead of going to the supergroup Atoms for Peace which butchers the vibes of TKoL imo. I think people overrate TKoL because regardless of the fanbases' favorite Radiohead record, the people just like the dopamine-rushed, blown out of proportion stuff but TKoL is not. It's my favorite RH record because it is super chill and is basically Yorke's best solo album. I mean, I love a good fucking crazy song like Paranoid Android, National Anthem, or my personal pick Cuttooth, but Radiohead fans ambitions get in the way and that's when they start to gate keep. Pablo Honey also used to be in that same headspace until everyone collectively agreed it is at least cringe.
Pablo Honey is… not great honestly. I enjoy it because it like that kind of 90s rock, but there really isn’t an essential track other than Creep. The King of Limbs is a beautiful record, truly misunderstood by Radiohead fans and newcomers.
you are the man a few recommendations: songs - Adrianne Lenker (folk, singer-songwriter) Ghosts of the Great Highway - Sun Kil Moon (folk rock, singer-songwriter, alt-country) SMILE :D - Porter Robinson (pop-punk, pop, electronic) Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)
the king of limbs is so good in my opinion. Little by little, give up the ghost and codex are some of my favourites by them edit 1: I think the cover for tkol is really good. it looks dark and grimy which compliments the way this album makes me think of a dark, damp af forest. which I suppose is a vibe I like personally Edit 2: pablo honey is just boring
only because it sounds more like what people think Radiohead should sound like lol. It's kind of an inherently gate-keep kind of statement, but I think Live From the Basement is like the full bands interpretation of King of Limbs, because the album is basically Yorke solo material.
@@swafty5813 I do not see how I am gate-keeping by recommending a unique live album I enjoy. I think that the more organic approach to the robotic, almost alien-like compositions creates a beautiful juxtaposition. Thats just me though, and it has nothing to do with how I "expect" Radiohead to sound like.
TKOL has grown on me quite a bit as a Radiohead fan. Didn’t like it that much when first released, although Bloom blew me away the first time I heard it. Radiohead doing an electro-afrobeat track was something I wasn’t expecting and it just floored me on that first listen in 2011. The piano driven songs are some of my favourites from the band and Codex is an incredible piece of work, one of my favourites from them of that style. Lotus Flower is also the best pop song they’ve done since Karma Police, and one of Thom’s best vocal performances, also another favourite of theirs. Revisited the record and also the From The Basement performance again recently and now I have a new found appreciation for the entire album. Really dig all the crazy rhythmic stuff going on. It makes sense since everyone’s tastes change/evolve as they get older and listen to a lot more varied musical styles. Thanks for another great reaction!
I might be weird but I actually really like feral, its easy to get lost to and I think its really cool how it keeps changing. Doesnt feel like radiohead at all, maybe more like some thom yorke solo stuff. Great video though as always
My daughter was in one of those amateur dance festivals (like this one ua-cam.com/video/5S1tw21F3MQ/v-deo.html) where different schools, colleges and dance and stage schools from the region perform a dance each. One small group from one of the more expensive dance schools did a very arty, high-energy choreographed routine to Feral, arms flailing everywhere, lots of jumping and flowing floor work, the music choice was excellent for performance art.
Listen to the TKOL from the basement performance and you’ll love the album. It completely changed my perspective on the whole thing, and I think I slightly different mix or a live sound would’ve helped the studio record out a lot.
Smags, are you thinking about covering Yorke's solo work ? His project with J. Greenwood, The Smile, had an amazing year with two albums, sort of repeating the Kid A/Amnesiac pattern. As for King Of Limbs, I think people mostly tuned out after the first couple of tracks and Feral, and skipped the rest. Not my favourite, but not deserving of such a bad reputation. Lotus Flower, Little By Little, and Give Up the Ghost certainly are up there for me.
Smags spoiling us this Sunday evening Also you should do the other two albums from The Smile. Not as good as Wall of Eyes, but still great. If Wall of Eyes is like The Bends, the other two are like Hail to the Thief and Amnesiac in terms of quality
if you do want to re listen to pablo honey, it might be worth checking out radiohead’s set at the astoria in 94’. most of the songs are in the set and they are some of the best renditions. lots more energy and some mind blowing guitar work from jonny.

Pablo Honey is such an ok album, semi bad at worst, decent most of the time save for maybe its like opener... And then Blow Out gives you a glimpse of what Radiohead would truly become, such a standout track in an otherwise kinda unremarkable album, I really like it. And King of Limbs. No matter what anyone says, I hold it very dear to my heart and very high in my ranking. Took a bit to adjust for sure, but once I saw what it truly was (and got to the last bit) I realized just how good it could be. I just feel like too often you take into account the public perception or how an album is kind of received by the masses. Don’t worry about it. I think the reason I’m calling back to a lot of their albums is because Im re-listening to a bunch of their records for a future ranking video, but other than that I think I am mentioning their other records too much here. The seeds of everything rediohead was to become is in Pablo Honey. Creative from the start, i don't like all the flac the album gets,
