People who don't like King of Limbs didn't watch the from the basement sessions. When KOL came out people were all "It's all loops where's the band?" And when you watch all 5 members plus the 6th member all performing it together and everyone in the pocket with their own instruments shows how cohesive the band can be. The fact that all 6 members can perform it and you question where's the band shows how amazing they are playing together.
Oh glob I remember the amazing jump the reception was. First was like "wtf is this?! Thom got his wish of making Radiohead a dubstep band" and then it was "OMG THIS IS SO AMAZING" and well, first Glastonbury 2011 as a surprise spot by the band and THEN the From the Basement session, omg that was so cool
I absolutely love The King of Limbs. Maybe I drank the Kool-Aid, but I think it’s great. Bloom, Codex, Give Up the Ghost, and Separator are all fantastic RH songs if you ask me.
I heard Radiohead for the first time this year, started with MSP, because the album art was so so cool, and also cuz I didn't know of Radiohead or their best albums or anything....so the name of the band meant nothing to me really. But, best believe when I tell you, that rainy night's droning with just a lone streetlight shining onto my front yard, giving everything I could see a sorta silver lining, while listening to this oh so serene and beautiful album is one the most magical musical experiences I've ever had.
Well it's been eight months, have you explored their other albums? My favorite is "In Rainbows", from the first note to the last, it is perfection. I can think of no greater out of body experience for me musically, then the last 60 ish seconds of "Reckoner", damn near kills me every time.
@@mariannecontrino6297 yesss.....ive listened to kid a, amnesiac and in ranbows since......and yess, in rainbows is also my fave from this bunch(havent listened to okc sooo idk) but i had a better first experience listening to msp.....idk maybe because the radiohead sound was novel to me at the time and i didnt know what to expect....but i still think in rainbows is near perferct(which is not the case with msp) which is why its my fave.....and yess again, reckoner is sooo good, reckoner and 15 step were the standouts after my first listen......thom's wailing vocals with the strings at the end is absolutely gorgeous...definitely one of my favourite radiohead songs
@ghost mall in hindsight msp was the perfect entry point for me given my musical journey and taste upto that point....i was the type to prefer a sad piano over a raging guitar...and thats when i heard msp with its forlorn synths and sweeping strings and Thom's wailing vocals, and i knew id found something special , especially with the vocals, i was mesmerised...
Why everyone think in rainbows is best? I was absolutely obsessed with it for a good month and a half then now I hardly listen to it, amnesiac and kid a do far more for me
I was around when Pablo Honey was first released and can say that it had a really good following in the scene that I was into. Though it was not the hit in the mainstream that later albums would prove to be... lots of people LOVED it.
Agreed. The video presenter here wasn’t even born yet. But my friends and I were into these guys with the release of Pablo Honey. Even today I enjoy listening to it as the guitar driven tracks are still quite good and several of the songs would land into a Radiohead Top-50. When The Bends came out we saw they made some great advances in musicianship and style, which is nice to see a band get better. Doesn’t mean Pablo is poo. For these young kids, I could see how they might not appreciate it. In the same way I will never appreciate BTS.
I still love Pablo Honey. It's underrated, gets way too much hate because people are grading on a curve against In Rainbows, or they're mainly into Kid A type electronica.
Weird Fishes is easily my favourite Radiohead song, personally OKC is my favourite album from them since it opened my eyes to other stuff that's out there musically
Honestly the king of limbs is an underrated album. And if you listen to the basement version of the album, it enhances the experience. (The basement version of TKOL is really really good though)
I agree. Also surprised he mentioned the basement version for In Rainbows but not for TKoL which is what usually fans point out that they like it way more than the studio version
19:35 the king of limbs was actually the first album i heard from radiohead and after being intrigued with Lotus Flower and Feral, i've been loving their work since
I love King of Limbs more than most people It's a beautiful album with chill Autumn vibes. I adore it. Desert Island Disk and The Numbers were also heard before the album released. And as old as Burn the Witch was, we never heard anything from it till it released Daydreaming, Decks Dark, Glass Eyes and Tinker Tailor are the only songs that were brand new
I think over time it will become much better appreciated, the way Kid A was. But yeah, really hard to follow an album like OK Computer or In Rainbows. Particularly if you go kinda weird and experimental with it when people expected more of the same.
The Bends is my favorite too. For the slow children: that doesn't mean I hate the rest of their albums or even necessarily think The Bends is their "objectively best" album. It's just a preference. I wish people would stop trying to gatekeep Radiohead. All their albums are miles better than 99.9% of music ever made, particularly in the era we're in now. We'd be lucky to get more music as good as The Bends, or even Pablo Honey for that matter. Anyone who likes Radiohead, any Radiohead, can be a friend of mine.
Just chiming in to say that The King of Limbs was actually the album that got me to creating music of my own - the loop-based approach made making music at home on my laptop seem like a possibility and the complex/messy sounding rhythms really excited me to try something similar. I was definitely already aware of Radiohead & on the Radiohead train when I heard it, so it wasn't my first album by them or anything but it definitely has a special place in my heart!
When I had the flu last year, I spent a lot of time lying in bed, tired and loopy from the pain, listening to Kid A. It kind of enhanced the experience, NGL.
A lot of people think Amnesiac is one of their worst albums but when it really clicks, it’s good. It has a scary, claustrophobic feel, more than Kid A, and it stands on its own.
i only started exploring radiohead this year. i think so far in my life i’ve only had three albums change my entire outlook on music, and by god, in rainbows is one of them. listening to it for the first time is like… lounging peacefully on a pool float and sunbathing before someone swims up from under and tips you over, leaving you to plunge into the water below. it’s an album i now understand why people love and give it so much recognition, and i will now proceed to never stop talking about it.
In Rainbows is my favorite Radiohead album, probably because I’m a pop/r&b fan at heart and that one kickstarted my Radiohead fandom. That’s the one you gotta recommend to casual fans to pull them in :)
Man I wish people picked things that there isn't always a disgusting amount of discussion about, I just really want a deep dive into they might be giants
That intro did something strange to my mind and I deeply enjoyed it. I don't understand the cool reception for TKOL though - Bloom, Lotus Flower, Codex, Give Up The Ghost, and Separator are all Kid A/In Rainbows-level brilliant to me. That's 5 out of 8 and given that it's Radiohead I will probably come around on the other 3 at some point in my life.
“If you came up to me in 1993 and said these guys would make in rainbows I’d say nothing I wasn’t born yet” XD actually made me laugh for a good 20 sec
Great video. Here is my rating of their albums from worst to best ranking for anyone who cares to have a wee read. :) 9 - Pablo Honey:- Still a good album, just nothing special considering what the band would later create. 8 - Hail to the Thief:- Great album but sometimes feels almost a product of it's time which is strange for Radiohead. 7 - Amnesiac:- Falls slightly short of Kid A for me but not the unfinished mess some critics would have you believe. 6 - The Kind of Limbs:- I can understand why people think this is their weakest, but after listening to their basement session of this album, I find it to be a genuinely strong album. The track Bloom is what anxiety feels like in audio form, feels like a shoe string is holding the track together. 5 - Kid A:- My most controversial opinion being that Kid A is not in the top 3. I still love and adore this album, it's just not one that I have on repeat, unlike the next 4 albums. It did absolutely push the band forward and is an essential part of the bands growth. It's one I don't listen to as often as others but it works best with breathing room between listens. 4 - The Bends:- I find The Bends to be under-rated amongst fans. To me it improves upon Pablo Honey massively and is probably the easiest album for newcomers to the band. It's maybe my most listened to Radiohead record because sometimes it's easy to listen to what is sometimes considered to be "generic alt rock". Fake Plastic Trees was the first Radiohead song I think I ever heard so it stands out to me for that reason. 3 - A Moon Shaped Pool:- Probably one of the most depressing albums ever created but also sounds like what grief can sound like. I understand that it can sometimes sound a little broody but there are some incredibly beautiful sounds on here. It's hard to recommend to newcomers but as a certified sad boi, I adore it and it used to be my number 2. 2 - In Rainbows:- Just simply gorgeous. Another good one to recommend to newcomers as the album has a lot of pleasant pop melodies. The track Nude has to be in my top 5 songs by the band. They also have a "live from the basement" recording of the album and is somehow even better than the record. Really shows the band as one of the tightest sounding bands of all time. 1 - OK Computer:- There's literally nothing I can say that hasn't already been said. Part of me is a little pissed off that this is my favourite album and that I don't have a more "interesting" number 1, but let that be a testament to this albums incredible long-lasting appeal and greatness. My favourite Song is hard to pick because the whole album is great song after great song. No Surprises maybe makes it as my favourite Radiohead song but it's close.
Sorry mate I Got Absolutely Different Taste Than You 1. Kid A Cold, Electronic, Amtospeariac, betifull, cinematic, Robotic but full of humanity and How To Dissapear theere best song in my opiniom And Ideoteque is top 10 song by Them 2. In rainbows, Crazy time sigaitures, warm, depressed but more chill, happy and Peacefull sounding record , Nude is My Second Favorite song by Them and Jigsaw Falling into place is top 10 song by them 3. Ok Coumpter i feel as if its less ambitiounious, amtospearsiac and expremential than My Top 2 less constiant its betufall But honestlty the only top 10 song By Radiohead in this lp and keep in mind thats my third Radiohead song which would be No Suprises 4. A moon Shaped Pool, Day Dreaming is my fourth song by them, its a sad, atsopeareisac Ass Album with some of the most Solid Radiohead Songs 5. The Bends alittle alt rocky but as you said underated and Fake Plastic Trees competle My Top 5 Radiohead songs its just solid as fuck 6. Hail To The Theif poltical, Awesome, Alittle Too long but out Kid A And In Rainbows its got the 2 Of my Top Ten Radiohead Tracks which are Theere Theere and 2+2=5 i want to put it higher Radiohead has just Out better work 7. Aminesiac, though more minmal and Clastorphobic than Kid A its Less Constant, Unique and Sounds like it cant decide if it wants to be its own Thing or Kid A, But Pyrmaid Song is a Top Ten Radiohead song Easily 8. Kings Of limbs, The Loops and all that crap can be repetive but its still pretty solid if a bit hit or miss Lotus Flower is my favorite song and that dont even crank my top 20 honestly 9. Pablo Honey, Boring, Dulll, Generic, alt rock, some like this album i dont, Creep is Generic the Rest of the album is even more standard And Generic than That
@@wojosquad4680 Actually don't think we're completely different, just slightly different orders really! That's what makes being a Radiohead fan so fun to discuss in my opinion. I pretty much agree with your opinions mostly too, I just don't put Kid A on as much as the ones I have above it but I do still adore it.
My ranking of their albums is: 9. Pablo Honey 8. King of Limbs 7. The Bends 6. Hail to the Thief 5. A Moon Shaped Pool 4. Ok Computer (I’m sorry) 3. In Rainbows 2. Amnesiac 1. Kid A

Caleb Dickerson YES ABSOLUTELY! His first couple of albums are nice folk albums with a jazzy touch but his signature sound comes with his 1983 album Swordfishtrombones
Reckoner must be the most immediate, catchy, and hypnotizing song I've heard, and to admit this, the first time I heard it, I was kinda confused, but after a few listenings, it became my absolute favorite
Hahah, King of Limbs *actually was* the first Radiohead album I listened to! I had absolutely no clue that it was "their worst" or whatever, I was 16 years old and listened to some pretty bad music; Kind of Limbs was a masterpiece in comparison. So I'll always have a soft spot for it. Loving your deep discog dives, though! Massive Attack next, perhaps?
I forgot I watched this three years ago. Came down to the comments to tell y'all exactly what I've already said, LOL. So let me add this: Listening to *A Moon Shaped Pool* in your headphones, while you're a passenger in a car that's driving across Norway from the south to the north, over the mountain plains that still have snow in June... It's really something else.
Hearing a friend's take on Radiohead's first show at Madison Square Garden, I bought a ticket for the 4th show in 2018. It changed my life. Then the inclusion of 'Decks Dark' at the end of the first episode of 'Ozark' made me fall in love with Moon Shaped Pool.
I think a really important point to mention about Kid A is that the recording wasn’t tradition recording song by song. But literally all members went separately in a castle, recorded a bunch of pieces and bits, and then stitched them all together
CAN I JUST SAY... i have had such a resistance to liking or even listening to radiohead since i can remember even if they directly inspired some of my absolute favorite bands, but the way you talk about music makes almost everything sound incredibly appealing and Great that im giving them another shot but this time im EXCITED about it. like, the respect and analysis you have/put into what you talk about is so inspiring & nice to see.
I’d love to see a redux of this video now, the Deep Discog Dive goes so much more in depth now and I’d love to see that level of detail given to this discography
Michael Chua Tbh I'm only up to "Nude" on this relisten and should hold judgment until the end...I don't hate the music. In general, I have a hard time getting past Thom Yorke's voice, which really grates on me. For some reason, Kid A's electronic atmosphere smooths out that edge.
5:55: OG version of "Lift." Some of their 90's live versions of their B-sides and Unreleased tracks can't be touched, the synth version of "True Love Waits" included. Great clip.
Fell in love with There There and Lotus since I heard them for the first time Them and Pyramid Song are my three favourites from Radiohead. Hail To The Theif is my favourite album from them though
I love In Rainbows. I've been a big fan for 20 years & that was the first one I really waited for, devouring live bootlegs of the songs. The final product was so incredibly beautiful.
I remember seeing The Bends in stores (especially Best Buy) when it was released, but I first listened to OK Computer and The Bends in February 1998, and I was hooked, more on OK Computer than The Bends. I would come to appreciate The Bends in 2003-2004. I have purchased every Radiohead album since Kid A the day/week it was released, Or preordered it from the band itself. OK Computer is my hands down all time favorite album of all time. I remember when Hail to the Thief leaked, and I listened to it with a couple college friends late freshman year the same day that The White Stripes “Elephant” was released.
One quick correction: unless the band is capable of time travel, "True Love Waits" did not wait 50 years to have a studio recording. It was actually 20 years.

Pablo honey is better than king of the limbs, imo.
Radiohead’s cameo on South Park might be the best thing they’ve done.
Hopefully we got Emenim. I want to hear him talk about some awful albums
VENOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
But I like Revival hahaha!
You have AJR now so at least you did get your wish for him to talk about shit albums
Ememum socks lolzerz
just his stuff past 2010 really.
YES! THIS!!!!!
I am unfortunately an npc who only truly appreciated KOL after i watched the basement sessions🤣
I absolutely love The King of Limbs. Maybe I drank the Kool-Aid, but I think it’s great. Bloom, Codex, Give Up the Ghost, and Separator are all fantastic RH songs if you ask me.
Same! TKOL is criminally underrated
Agreed
Loftus Flower is underrated
@@jasonirwin2947 the only song on the album that is popular
I was absolutely obsessed with it for a good month and a half then now I hardly listen to it, amnesiac and kid a do far more for me
Reckoner from In Rainbows is hauntingly beautiful. The song is a masterpiece.
How To Disappear Completely completely changed my life. Radiohead’s music should be studied in uni’s.
The king of limbs is painfully underrated imo I really love that record

"You" is in my radiohead top 10.
I still love Pablo Honey. It's underrated, gets way too much hate because people are grading on a curve against In Rainbows, or they're mainly into Kid A type electronica.
I keep coming back to Spectre. Such a good tune
3:57 so Thom wakes up sucking on lemons and Ed wakes up sucking on guitar picks? That's all you need to understand this band
Weird Fishes is easily my favourite Radiohead song, personally OKC is my favourite album from them since it opened my eyes to other stuff that's out there musically
@ghost mall idk its a more personal side to the band. also jigsaw falling into place is an absoulte bop and you cant tell me otherwise
The in the basement version of king of limbs is awesome
Honestly the king of limbs is an underrated album. And if you listen to the basement version of the album, it enhances the experience. (The basement version of TKOL is really really good though)
I agree. Also surprised he mentioned the basement version for In Rainbows but not for TKoL which is what usually fans point out that they like it way more than the studio version
the more i listen to King of Limbs the more i fall in love with it.
This was awesome. I'd love to see you explore Bjork's discography :D
It's already there.
19:35 the king of limbs was actually the first album i heard from radiohead and after being intrigued with Lotus Flower and Feral, i've been loving their work since
I love King of Limbs more than most people
It's a beautiful album with chill Autumn vibes. I adore it.
Desert Island Disk and The Numbers were also heard before the album released.
And as old as Burn the Witch was, we never heard anything from it till it released
Daydreaming, Decks Dark, Glass Eyes and Tinker Tailor are the only songs that were brand new
Never understood why people hate King of Limbs. It’s one of my favourite Radiohead albums.
The short answer is it came after In Rainbows.
Even if TKOL didn't exist, or if it was a completely different record, it wouldn't have compared.
I think over time it will become much better appreciated, the way Kid A was. But yeah, really hard to follow an album like OK Computer or In Rainbows. Particularly if you go kinda weird and experimental with it when people expected more of the same.
Let's appreciate that this man makes the entire video interesting, fun and immersive
The King of Limbs is amazing. Please don't campare it to Pablo Honey. Never.
The King of Limbs is arguably their worst album. Pablo Honey was accepted at the time. Yes, Pablo Honey bad, but it was acceptable alternative rock.
I've always thought King of Limbs is a stronger album than Hail to the Thief

The Bends is probably my favourite album from them and one of the best ever.
Finally someone with sense
Agreed. Fucking brill album
HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT? Ugh drives me nuts when people claim that as their favorite. Its shit compared to everything else they ever did
@@masterninja9716It's definitely not shit but they got better
"Unless 2020 loops in on itself and we're stuck living the same year over and over again."
Yeah, about that.

i only started exploring radiohead this year. i think so far in my life i’ve only had three albums change my entire outlook on music, and by god, in rainbows is one of them. listening to it for the first time is like… lounging peacefully on a pool float and sunbathing before someone swims up from under and tips you over, leaving you to plunge into the water below. it’s an album i now understand why people love and give it so much recognition, and i will now proceed to never stop talking about it.
In Rainbows is my favorite Radiohead album, probably because I’m a pop/r&b fan at heart and that one kickstarted my Radiohead fandom. That’s the one you gotta recommend to casual fans to pull them in :)
That was probably the most brilliant intro I've ever experienced. Right up there with the use of the same song to open Vanilla Sky
Oh I love King of Limbs!! It’s one of my favourite from them
Man I wish people picked things that there isn't always a disgusting amount of discussion about, I just really want a deep dive into they might be giants
Same!!
I can't stand them yet my husband LOVES them
That intro did something strange to my mind and I deeply enjoyed it.
9 - Pablo Honey:- Still a good album, just nothing special considering what the band would later create.
Sorry mate I Got Absolutely Different Taste Than You
1. Kid A Cold, Electronic, Amtospeariac, betifull, cinematic, Robotic but full of humanity and How To Dissapear theere best song in my opiniom And Ideoteque is top 10 song by Them
2. In rainbows, Crazy time sigaitures, warm, depressed but more chill, happy and Peacefull sounding record , Nude is My Second Favorite song by Them and Jigsaw Falling into place is top 10 song by them
3. Ok Coumpter i feel as if its less ambitiounious, amtospearsiac and expremential than My Top 2 less constiant its betufall But honestlty the only top 10 song By Radiohead in this lp and keep in mind thats my third Radiohead song which would be No Suprises
4. A moon Shaped Pool, Day Dreaming is my fourth song by them, its a sad, atsopeareisac Ass Album with some of the most Solid Radiohead Songs
5. The Bends alittle alt rocky but as you said underated and Fake Plastic Trees competle My Top 5 Radiohead songs its just solid as fuck
6. Hail To The Theif poltical, Awesome, Alittle Too long but out Kid A And In Rainbows its got the 2 Of my Top Ten Radiohead Tracks which are Theere Theere and 2+2=5 i want to put it higher Radiohead has just Out better work
7. Aminesiac, though more minmal and Clastorphobic than Kid A its Less Constant, Unique and Sounds like it cant decide if it wants to be its own Thing or Kid A, But Pyrmaid Song is a Top Ten Radiohead song Easily
8. Kings Of limbs, The Loops and all that crap can be repetive but its still pretty solid if a bit hit or miss Lotus Flower is my favorite song and that dont even crank my top 20 honestly

Caleb Dickerson YES ABSOLUTELY! His first couple of albums are nice folk albums with a jazzy touch but his signature sound comes with his 1983 album Swordfishtrombones
Pablo Honey was my introduction to Radiohead and I don't regret it
Same here when it came out it was good for its time period and it was in my rotation for quite a while.
Reckoner must be the most immediate, catchy, and hypnotizing song I've heard, and to admit this, the first time I heard it, I was kinda confused, but after a few listenings, it became my absolute favorite

You and Whose Army ? Is a beautiful song off Amnesiac that is featured throughout the french canadian film Incendies, a MUST WATCH. Beautiful
Even the worst Radiohead song is so much better than 99.9% of music today. But longtime Radiohead fans tend to grade albums/tracks on a curve.
FINALLY IVE WAITED FOR THIS MY WHOLE LIFE... well thats.. a lie... but... WHATEVER
I am so happy I found this channel. You & Fantano are my favs when it comes to reviews! 🙌
King Of Limbs is awesome from the basement and Radiohead has a lot of really good, and even a number of great b-sides.
I’d love to see a redux of this video now, the Deep Discog Dive goes so much more in depth now and I’d love to see that level of detail given to this discography
I'm so happy you love Kid A too! That was my window into Radiohead, and it's still the only Radiohead album I love in its entirety.
Same here man, but give In Rainbows a chance. Weird Fishes / Arpeggi is a masterpiece.
Check out Caveman Jack Reacts' channel where he unwittingly selects Kid A as his first experience of a full Radiohead album. It's a delight to watch.
5:55: OG version of "Lift." Some of their 90's live versions of their B-sides and Unreleased tracks can't be touched, the synth version of "True Love Waits" included. Great clip.
Can we all just appreciate the fact an American was able to pronounce "Oxfordshire" correctly?
Casually starts the video off with one of my favorite Radiohead songs. Excellent.
Fell in love with There There and Lotus since I heard them for the first time
Them and Pyramid Song are my three favourites from Radiohead.
