@@creativerose4302 Pretty sure this is meant to be one season since it's a mini series. Maybe the goal wasn't to like Adam? He felt like Skyler in Breaking Bad. Just there to give Michael tension. I guess that's why it's called Your Honor. It's not just a reference to Michael's job, but how the characters we should like had a lack of honor. The goal was always to give karmic justice for Eugene by killing the root cause for the events in the show. Adam dies in a similar manner as Rocco. Having the show end this way works fine because the motivation for most of them are gone. Do we really need to see Michael lose his job and go to prison? Does it really matter that Big and Little Mo get what they deserve for sacrificing Eugene's family? We can just imagine the rest, and it'll be fine. Frannie loses her job and is a registered sex offender. Carlo gets beaten to death. At this point, Jimmy and Gina have lost their son and daughter. We know Fia will never recover from this whether she knows the truth or not. The romance between Fia and Adam is probably why Jimmy and Gina are willing to overlook the fact that Adam killed their son. At first I thought that Adam just wanted to get to know Rocco through Fia, so when he eventually kills himself he can leave her a note about it. Now it seemed more like it was insurance if Jimmy and Gina ever knew. At this point, I can see this show and What We Do in the Shadows are in the same universe. Adam is clearly a psyhic/emotional vampire.
I remember hating the buildup to this scene because it felt like they were gonna use Eugene as a sacrificial lamb. I'm like damn you already sacrificed the guys whole family.
How about him running over the kid in the first place? I legitimately thought his character was mentally challenged until the next episode. And I don't buy his teacher being so star struck over this kid.
@@SuperMurray2009 The guy was not that good with the ladies dude didnt even talk that much he often had that deer in the headlight look! Like there was nobody upstairs just staring and taking ages to answer a simple question! Also this mofo swerved into Roccos lane but didnt pull to the side of the road to find his inhaler! Icing on the cake is he tries to eliminate the same chick he said he loved aswell after she warns her about the Baxters! This guy has to be in the top ten worst characters in the history of television or film!
I had to fast forward through his ridiculous scenes. His character was utterly repugnant. I was glad when he was killed, but I'd have preferred him being eaten by ants or some other grizzly fate more appropriate for such a pos. He wrecked the entire show.
Unnecessary plotlines: 1. Adam's mom's affair: Why? How did that contribute to the story at all? 2. Adam's grandmother: Unnecessary character and the story would've been the same without her. 3. Michael going to Baxter's house in the last episode: Why did Jimmy call Michael anyway? He had no idea about the shooting. What was the point? 4. Adam and his teacher's affair: Seruoisly, they could've shown him single and the story would've still remained the same. 5. The dog hiding the bloody cloth: Why? Just why? No, but why? 6. The asthma pump: How can the police not see a big ass asthma pump on the crime location? Huh? They would've found it was Adam on the first day itself. 7. The old lady who saw Baxter's son get killed: She came up a few times but nothing about the story comes up. 8. Why was Adam's mom murdered? She could've died naturally without affecting the storyline. If you're gonna bring up the murder so many times, kindly also open tf about the reason for her murder. 9. Adam's phone: What the fuck you dumbass bitch? Answer your fucking phone. Why would you not answer your dad's call when you literally killed someone and he is saving your ass?
@@SuperMurray2009 thats the super annoying thing about the whole series.. there was just too many frustrating moments mo one wants to watch a show and get frustrated all the time
1. Things don't always need a big payoff. It showed a flawed family. It added to the mystery of the Desire gang. It was an element to why she was killed where she was killed and why Adam would be there to where the accident happened. All minor but just plot details. 3. Jimmy basically was letting Michael know he knew it was Adam 4. To help show Adam was confused and flawed and a teenager. Also she ended up being the one that revealed it was Adam who hit Rocco. 6. Agreed! Plus Jimmy saw an inhaler when he searched the home too did he not? Unless he thought it was Michael's 9. He's a confused 17 year old. You don't think there are kids out there that turn their phone off when their parents keep calling them. Never used the "Oh my phone died" excuse? Come on now.
Has anyone else ever read or seen The Postman Always Rings Twice? The movie is from the 1940's and stars Lana Turner and John Garfield. Very similar ending to our story.
@@teebee9232 someone else replied that Eugene missed aiming at Carlo, however Carlo was nowhere near where Adam was. I believe Eugene was definitely going to kill Adam oh, because he found out that it was because of Adam and all the cover-ups that Daddy did for him oh, that he realized that Adam was the cause of his brother's death. Eugen probably understood why Carlo killed his brother, because Carlo was lied to and told that Eugene's brother killed Rocco If you watch it again look how Eugene was walking by the food preparers and Gina the real gangster was looking at him was at the other end looking straight at Eugene and then all of a sudden you see the gun pointing and Carlo and Gina are together and then all of a sudden you see the bullet going through Adams neck
I love when Michael ran out of his house to drive to hotel and , of course, there’s a truck blocking his driveway. 🤦🏻♀️. When Eugene went into hotel I was hoping he was going to blow the Baxter wife’s head off. When Adam got it instead, I actually laughed. I thought, good. That’s what you get for always turning your phone off. Adam was definitely the most frustrating character in any series I’ve ever watched. Just really bad writing.
I thought the truck thing was cool because we had been seeing Michael training for a marathon this whole series, and now at the end he finally has to run a marathon technically lol
Can someone help me understand why Charlie didn’t connect the dots himself, the whole reason why Kofi had to take the charge is b/c he called Rudy to get rid of the car.
Charlie is a politician - human life is almost always contingent to all their responsibilities to be in power. It doesn't become a pressing concern for elected officials, until it does.
I'm sure deep down he thought about it. Since Charlie and Michael are good friends, he doesn't question Michael when a favor is asked. Plus when you have ulterior motives as a politician it helps to have a judge in your pocket to do something for you without asking why. All anyone has to know what he did was help a friend dispose of a car, and there's nothing illegal for getting rid of a car for the owner if you don't know why.
The judge told charlie that he was responsible earlier in the show. There was no reason for Charlie to doubt the judge's version of events. And as the comment prior to mine says, it's not really relevant to charlie who was driving the car (the judge or the judge's son). Also, asking too many questions just incriminates himself more than is necessary
Finished it..agreed there was some plot lines that weren't nesscxary and I don't really get how it took the officer and lawyer long to realise the dates etc or am I missing somthing? That being said the ending floored me..very sad ,but love how the kid inadvertently killed the true killer of Rocco
Is it horrible to say that I cheered when Adam finally got what was coming to him. Totally brilliant. You cannot cheat Karma. All of Michael’s efforts were wasted. His son ended up dead in the end and poetic justice that it was at the hands of Eugene. He killed the ultimate right person in the end. Great storylines but they were wasted. What was the point of the mother having the affair with someone from the Desire gang. It had no connection to the overall story. I would give this series a 6.5. Overall it was entertaining but had the potential to be better. The finale was a 7.5 with the killing of Adam, the best part. Now to find another series 😉.
Adam would have got what was coming to him if not for Michael's intervention. It should have been Michael who died, thereby leaving Adam to the mercy of Nature.
We never figured out why Adam felt it was a good idea to dump his “hot for teacher” lover & start sniffing up Sofia’s skirt. Like wtf was he going to do when Sofia finds out he killed her brother? She would’ve probably killed Adam herself. Plus what was up with the photos he was shooting of the crash scene and his chest bruises. Was Adam going to confess his guilt through a series of photographs? He drops his teacher lover like a hot potato and doesn’t give two shits that she knows the truth. He straight up betrayed his dad too by dating Fia period. Michael ruined his life to try & save Adam from going to prison or being a revenge death for Rocco Baxter. Adam and his asthma was the doom of the entire story. If only he would’ve pulled over to grab his inhaler, he would’ve seen Rocco. ✌️😳
I think he was just getting overwhelmed by the serious nature. Her I have this whole plan for us when you get into the New York school. Men don't love commitment especially at 17!
What black SUV? Are you talking about the green SUV? The owner was blackmailing Michael into paying him money. He was the guy behind Adam at the gas station.
One major flaw that really annoyed me and I haven't seen it touched on yet, is in the last ep with the court case: If the prosecution had the CCTV footage from the cell block as part of their evidence, how in the world does a defence solicitor, who is probably being paid a lot by Jimmy Baxter, A) Completely ignores it in his preparations with Baxters son and allows him to say the cell was closed by Kofi... and B) If the defence did not have this evidence, which the prosecution should provide, it should be objected to and disallowed as evidence... If I missed something with this please tell me cause that was the nail in the coffin that to me, made this whole ending feel rushed and not well thought out
You really didn't tho. It had false sense of enjoyment but if you actually thought about it, its awful. So much potential for nothingness. I was rooting for the Judge's kid to get killed the entire time. In The Sopranos Tony Sopranos is one of the biggest pricks but I never wanted him to die and always wanted him to succeed. Difference? Writing
OMG. This series made me so angry. Like you’ve said, Michael and Adam were so unlikable. At the end, I guess Adam’s death was presented as a tragedy. But I didn’t care, because I didn’t like him. Was that supposed to be some sort of poetic justice. Well... I wanted justice for Kofi. Justice for his mother and siblings. Justice for the African American judge that Michael set up. I just wanted some kind of justice for all the casualties suffered by others as the result of Michael and Adam’s actions. I kept thinking, were there no POC at the screen writers’ table to say that all of this injustice would leave everyone else unredeemable. Honestly, I watched this series waiting for all of the unlikable folks to die... p.s. The acting was good but I’m glad it’s over, 😧
I thought the ending was about karma, Adam paid an eye for an eye and the black kid accidently killed Adam, who indirectly was the reason his brother died, it all goes in a circle back to Adam, who was the seed to all the events that lead throughout the story.
Skr 420 You made me think of something. The priest tells the story of Abraham and Isaac. In Judeo-Christian religion, Adam is the first man. The Leonard Cohen's song Treaty, he sings about letting the poison in.
Overall the show feels disjointed. The tone was set in the first episode for a riveting show and it seemed to go down hill midway. The side stories and supporting characters weren't really used except to haphazardly move the story along or reveal information in the most convenient way. The resolution fell flat and the ending was apt; a stray bullet to put the audience out of our misery. So much potential squandered.
It really felt like the show may have had problems and had to maybe even cut the number of episodes during production. There is no way this was all written out like this and people felt it worked.
I agree, it did seem to somewhat change tones. The first 2 episodes were really good imo.. then it got kinda lost.. having some very strong moments along the way. Lots of plot holes & unresolved stories. I did still find the show enjoyable though.
Exactly! When Michael ran down the stairs at the opening scene looking for Adam, I just knew Jimmy had done something to him after Adam went over to the Baxter's house the evening before. Nope! Adam was somewhere distraught over his mom's affair. Huh?
In the end it was the hand-of-god, or in other words, the hand of the writers, that executed some measure of justice. Everybody spinning their wheels trying to get an outcome they want and all of them fail. A bullet aimed at Carlo ends up in Adam's throat. I wonder if Adam deep down wanted to be punished. That cop implicated herself when she let the judge take the names of private citizens off her computer, so she might be a straight shooter but is grappling with her own culpability... she probably didn't know yet, but one of those people ended up dead.
Michael stuhlbarg is an amazing actor ! He played Jimmy Baxter great! He also played Arnold Rothstein in boardwalk empire and steals every scene he’s in! I think he should have been in this show more! He’s the man!!!!!!
I think the series started out strong. The pivotal scene where Adam kills Rocco was tightly paced, and the actor playing Adam did a mesmerizing and sympathetic job showing fear, confusion, and remorse. As the episodes piled up the character of Adam deteriorated in terms of motivation, empathy, and just basic intelligence. The actor was not skilled enough to flesh out the character as it was being sabotaged by the writing and directing. Many of the reviews I’ve read suggest a distinct preference for this totally unlikable young man to get his comeuppance and the fact that he did would have had a theatre audience cheering instead of weeping when Eugene took out his gun. In addition to there being too many subplots, some of which like Michael’s late wife having an affair, were so irrelevant they didn’t even bother to clean them up. It was unconscionable that the “hook” that ended episode 9 was completely ignored. Bad writing? Poor Continuity? Maybe they didn’t feel the actor playing Adam could manage the scene with Stuhlbarg so they just cut it? One last point - too many female characters that could have been consolidated for purposes of dramatic clarity - Nancy, Lee, and Fiona. I was never quite sure what each one knew, what leads they were following, and what role they hoped to play in Michael’s life. Nancy and Lee could have been easily combined into one character while considerably upping the tension. What kept me coming back was Brian Cranston’s performance, along with the hope that the writers would somehow get the ship off the rocks and refloat it before the finale. They didn’t. Overall, I’d give it a 4 out of 10.
It's a limited series but I would have liked to see what happens with the other characters...Charlie, Nancy, the step mother, something more about what happened to Michael's wife, Fia's plan to leave her family, etc..
Same! It was so good and eve tho they were bad boys we all cheered for michael and adam to get away and they just had to kill adam.. Very stupid ending
@@ronniethornley5578 agreed. Although the original series in Israel had a second season I don't think it makes much sense here. Michael isn't going to give a crap if he goes to prison so he will just confess everything. The only thing that could happen is that they could have Adam actually survive and then the kid who shot him getting arrested with the lawyer knowing what she knows trying to defend him and threatening to spill the beans on everyone. Still they are going to all know that Michael was at the hotel and at a party of the guy he just helped acquit. None of it would really make any sense.
I'm just glad it's over. What had so much promise was wasted in poor storytelling, editing and direction. A fitting ending and pain all around including the audience.
@@huell8014 I agree with James Wellington. That's an outrageous comment. Better Call saul is better than Your Honor, although I do think Your Honor was a good show. Anyway I'm looking forward to see what Lalo Salamanca has up his sleeve. But there is no accounting for taste, and I'm sure there is someone out there in the milky way galaxy who will agree with you, and you should marry them
@@stevencoardvenice I said I liked it more than Breaking Bad. Mainly due to cinematography and acting. Bryan Cranston who was already amazing in Breaking Bad, got even better, and I feel the rest of the cast held their own really well, especially mini John Berenthal aka Jimmy's oldest son (cant think of name right now). Loved the color grading also. Better Call Saul is definitely better than both Your Honor and Breaking Bad though.
I also thought in all of this that Baxter never once blamed himself for what happened to Rocco. He buys his teenage son a freaking dirt bike when he bought his daughter a car. I mean, it's one of the most dangerous things you can possibly drive especially in a city like New Orleans which is famous for a lot of things -- drunks (including drunk drivers) and potholes included.
@@yousefqasrawi2073 Well, I don't know if she does or doesn't. I think she, like Jimmy, blamed the "unknown driver" for not only killing their son but leaving him dying in the street. Thus, they went on a quest that went outside of the law to try to find this guy on their own if the law couldn't produce him themselves. I get the impression that the wife is perhaps even more bloodthirsty than Jimmy was. Sure, Jimmy was the one who either was perpetrating the violence himself or otherwise ordering others to do it for him -- but she was the one who went behind Jimmy's back and had Carlo moved to a different prison just to get revenge on the kid who they believed was the one responsible at the time.
@@voteZDLRone thing to add. jimmy Baxter and his wife has the feeling to see Adam who is in the age of their son dying. They were asking, who can leave a 17 years old boy dying without help. Now they are doing it.
@@haithamsabbah8002 Yeah that's true I did notice an analog between the way that Rocco died choking on his own blood, basically, and the way that Adam died. I don't know if that's why they didn't stick around, I mean in an active shooting situation most people clear the area just instinctively but that's almost certainly what they were going for metaphor wise as far as the show's production is concerned.
Gina Baxter asks what kind of human being can leave a dying child alone and quite understandably calls the culprit a monster. However, Gina rejoices in the death of three children in an explosion.
I was super late to this party, binged all the episodes over the weekend and I too have mixed feelings about the finale. Loved the series overall, but I was left feeling a little dissatisfied in the end - I wanted to learn more about Adam's mom and the connection/affair she had w/ the Desire gang member! Also, how in the world is Adam just so nonchalantly hanging around the sister and the Baxter family like that?! Like is he devoid of emotion, namely guilt!!!
You think you were late? I discovered this series less than 2 weeks ago 😭!! I really like it, just fished season 1 yesterday. I still can't wrap my head around Adam and his twisted desire to be around Rocco's family. I found myself rooting for Jimmy, the freaking crime lord! How tf are you gonna kill his son and then date his daughter? What kind of morbid crap is that. What did that family do to Adam? You killed their son, leave them alone! I'm telling you I wanted Jimmy to kill Adam with his own damn hands.
@@LolitaBonitaaafor me it’s just Adam making stupid choices for being a smart kid and his scenes are always the worst I did like the ending I didn’t want Adam to die but I did think he should get caught for some many bad choices I had no idea there was a season 2
The guy at the cemetery’s anniversary was on the 10th (the day he saw Michael). So when he told Nancy the story about his anniversary, she was like don’t you mean it happened on the 9( the day of the murder). He said no, then she realized he was right about the date.
Exactly what both posts before me said but to clarify one point. Michael and Adam went back to the cemetery on the 10th to recreate the 9th, which is when the interaction with the homeless vet took place. What Michael didnt plan for was October 10th being of significant importance to the vet and that he would remember with absolute certainty what day their interaction was. Its pretty farfetched in my opinion. Every other factor aside, youd have to be incredibly unlucky for this to happen. And then Nancy was only able to follow up because she clearly hasnt been assigned one other case 😂
IMHO, the homeless vet scenario was a great piece of irony and showing Michael's hubris. In Michael's arrogance, he assumes the vet is not "all there'.
I thank they had too many characters for this show, if some were deleted they might have been able to build the main characters more. You’re right we didn’t like Adam at the end but I did like many of the secondary characters more and that’s bad writing. I agree the acting was great. The last episode was tense though and wrapped everything up and moved really fast, so I did like the finale.
I think one important part that you missed that I felt was the best payoff of the show is Jimmy knew Adam killed his son, and when he goes to face to face with adam, who doesn't know what to do or how to act, Jimmy opens up his arms takes adam in, with Michael at the window, and it gave me the feeling that because his daughter loves adam, there was this possibility, that Jimmy lost one son, so he was going to take another, and take the son from the Judge Michael.. as sort of a way to heal his own soul of losing a son. That's the impression that I felt like the show was giving which I quite honestly like, but knew when Eugene was coming that Adam was the one going down. Overall I can't give the show a 6, when it had me wrapped up week by week wanting to see more, it was riveting, and yes there were several plot holes to the show, but overall I gave it a 7.8. It was exciting, the acting was great, the cringeworthy moments were almost to much to bear. The show could have been a 10 had they made some adjustments like you caught, but it was a good show. I wish there was a season 2 even with Adam dead
I had a feeling that's where they were going with it, too, but it's not like he was gonna effectively be able to steal Adam from him. UNLESS he had Michael killed or something and then he ends up moving in as a comforting surrogate father figure, especially because he knows that his daughter loves him so much. But no, that would almost be contrary to Baxter's character because once he found out "the truth" that Michael did NOT kill his son and it was in fact this other person, to him as a businessman that might even nullify the deal that he had with Michael's character. He wanted to kill the one who left his son for dead. Whoever it was.
@@voteZDLR Except Jimmy wanted to know Michael what the pain of losing a son felt like. Adam already started to ignore his dad even after all that he had done for him. The only reason it would be in Jimmmy's character to not kill Adam, was because Fia loved Adam, it would be a dark secret and would have made for an interesting season 2, had they taken that angle. Taking Michael's son away from him was effective as basically killing him by changing him slowly into Carlo. I don't know but it was a moment where I went Whoa.. is this what they are doing .. and they didn't but I think it would have been intense.
@@MrCrisisZ Nah I wouldn't say Michael and his son's relationship was getting strained by the very end, in fact they shared one of the most tender moments together we've seen them share in the entire run of the show in the finale. When Michael is comforting Adam about his Mom's tendency to cheat by relaying that story about him hugging her so tightly that he broke her rib on their wedding day, only for Adam to tease him by faking breaking his own rib in the ensuing hug that follows. It was a nice moment. I was wondering if Baxter would ever bless the relationship between Adam and Sofia, especially if he ever found out the truth behind Rocco's death. Which I thought was definitely going to happen. I just don't think he would, I mean Jimmy is basically the Devil and Michael quite literally made a deal with the Devil in dealing with him. I knew Michael was doomed from that point on, the only variable was Adam who I actually didn't think would be caught I thought he would either get snitched on by his jealous former lover/teacher OR turn himself in because he can't bear the torture of bearing a secret like that for much longer. Neither of these things happened. In fact, the closer he gets to Sofia the more he seems to forget about Rocco and/or not care about it at all. Jimmy reserved all of the hatred and blame for the person that did it, and that person was Michael UNTIL he found out that it was actually Adam. I don't even think ruining his reputation to get Carlo Baxter off of the hook would be enough to smooth things out with a man like Baxter. They use you until they have no need for you anymore. I think it would have been more powerful for Jimmy to torture/kill Adam after finding out, and Sofia ends up catching him which not only shatters her perceptions of the man her father really is (she doesn't believe he's actually a gangster and everything they say about him are lies) but it also causes him to lose HER as well because she is in love with him. If Carlo somehow was found guilty and given the death sentence in the meantime, this would effectively mean that Michael and Jimmy BOTH lose all of their children -- either through death or resentment/hatred (as far as Sofia is concerned when she finds out who her dad REALLY is).
I liked this episode and it drove me nuts. How did Adam manage to get two gfs while lacking a personality? I really loved the scene with Baxter hugging Adam while looking at Michael. I thought that was going to be the payback. Baxter is down a son, why not take a judges son and fully embrace him into the crime family? I would have been fine with that ending. I do like that Adam died the same way as the Baxter boy, but it wasn't the same. As in Adam didn't set out with intention to kill. A thread I would have rather seen pulled somewhere here would have been the Mama Baxter backlash. I thought she was the one calling the shots with Carlo, but I could be wrong, usually am. I am still confused as to how in the hell this judge was allowed to sit in on this case since a stolen car is mentioned in questioning more than once. It's Michael's car that was stolen, wouldn't that put him visibly to others as a conflict of interest? I feel like they threw some really good ingredients into a pot for a meal but I can't figure out what they are serving.
For me, the teacher character added another shade to Adam’s sociopathy. Beyond being fine with having a relationship with someone inappropriate - he also unloaded his secret onto her with no concern for making her an accomplice and ghosted on her when something better came along... nope
Nit-picker: in Episode 6, Michael and Adam talk about Michael and Robin being married thirty to thirty-two years. However, in Episode 10, Michael tells Adam Robin was pregnant with him when she and Michael got married.
I wonder how much the pandemic siderailed the production of this show? It had so much promise, but ultimately feels like they had to scrap about 2 or 3 episodes and just used bits and pieces to tell the story. I'm not mad at this ending, I actually liked this arc for Adam. It just could've been way better!
Pandemic shouldn’t have affected the story in meaningful ways. They could have easily delayed if they wanted more scenes but the need to social distance didn’t affect the story in any way
@@TrueGamer22887 There were time holes in it too. They claim its close to 2009 but have these old cars, then the judge talks about social distancing and there's one lady wearing a mask on the jury.
One of the worst and weirdest plot points was for the first half of the series Jimmy is framed as this MacBeth like character in that his wife is the real mastermind and she’s emasculating him at every opportunity, the constant mentions of the motorcycle, she’s the one who gets her son into the prison to kill Kofi etc. And then they blows up Kofi’s house and all of a sudden Gina is just ‘aight, imma head out’ for the rest of the season and we barely see her do anything again apart from heat up some soup. They had something interesting there with Jimmy really just being a bit of a puppet for his wife but then decided half way through they were bored of writing interesting characters so just made Jimmy a cookie cutter mob boss bad guy
Had to pause the review 5 minutes in, I just binged this show and had to come on to see what the "internets" were saying and started with you, but I'm surprised that you found Adam unsympathetic, SO SURPRISED. I sympathized with him moment one and hated the narrative that he just left Rocco to die. I really felt sorry that the writers decided he'd die gurgling and gasping for breath like it was divine retribution...maybe it was...for Michael. Adam was just another casualty in Michael's bad decision making. Adam feared for his life, justified or not, he couldn't breathe and instead of securing his air by finding his inhaler, he abandoned his fear and his own life to administer CPR and call 911. The story that didn't pay off was that ominous black SUV that kept showing up. They obviously had time to take pictures of the accident, take note of the license plate number to try and extort Michael after hearing the news story. That would have made more sense than an irate asshole waiting to pump gas who was suspicious enough to record the car ahead of him (before seeing blood on the shirt). Adam ALWAYS felt wrong about not being held accountable. He wasn't just having some good time in life. He even entered into this very dangerous arrangement with the sister all because he wanted to personalize who he killed. He was very sorry and it was a clear mistake. He was obviously a child and not a sophisticated criminal. While I understand Michael fearing for his son's life when seeing the Baxters, he's the judge and he should have been able to think through the scenarios better to know it was better to tell the truth, if not in the beginning, certainly when Kofi was murdered but unquestionably, when Kofi's family was murdered. He should have also let Carlo go to jail with that last interaction with Jimmy understanding that, for him, it wouldn't ever be over.
Just have to say I don’t understand why anyone did anything to help Adam...he was so ungrateful and seemed to not want to be around anyone who was helping him.
You can say that he was fuu*cked up about what had happened with his mom. But yeah he keeps making bad decision after bad decision from the opening scene of the series, and gets tiresome after a while. And has a very sheltered privileged attitude. Even his own shady teacher called him out on it. Maybe that's just the kinda kid he was, regardless of what happened with his mom. He's just kinda spoiled and emotional. And he's always always playing with fire. So he finally got it in the neck. Oh well. Plus mama Baxter should not have got her knucklehead teenage son a dam motorcycle anyway. Lotta stupid to go around here. Jimmy was probably the only reasonable guy on the show. The wife was always pushing him to do sick sh*t
@@stevencoardvenice I’m sure he was torn up about his mother but they didn’t do a very good job showing it through his actions to be honest. He was at the murder scene the first episode and he pulled out some of her photos later in the series but besides that I can’t really remember him even talking about her. Michael brought her up more, attempting to use her to persuade Adam to make better choices (which he did not do).
@Mal Mort facts I agree with you everything you said. She doesn’t want him to turn himself in for a crime he didn’t do. So did she expect him to turn Adam in? She expected him not to throw the case and not save his son? What the hell did she want from a man willing to do anything for his son???? He deserved to be slapped for that?
I think the dislike people had for adam could be a bit much. I mean, yes i feel also he was stupid too, but he was generally the at the tender age where most of us are not the smartest. And remember he did go with his father to the police precinct willingly early to confess originally. Also we never heard nancys reply to charlie, so we also can not jump the gun on her either. I also question why you think adam had no reason to turn his phone off, sure there were possibilities, He probably didnt want michael to know he was involved with the baxter daughter of all people, knowing that his dad would most likely not approve, but his feelings were too deep at that point. Lastly someone said michaels wifes cheating had no relation to the main plot. Ofcourse it did. Thats the reason this whole story got rolling, adam was in that area paying respects just before the hit & run.
Also - What was the purpose of the black SUV who witnessed the accident?? What was that for?! Really lame plot, full of unrealistic holes, it was a waste of time. The Baxters were a ridiculous stereotype, very over the top. Brian Crenston is the only awesome thing there, Lee and Nancy were also great acting-wise. I wonder how the Israeli original is. Thanks Steve for reviewing this!
Maybe the mystery guy in photo was driving the black SUV. But like alot of other things in this show, it was left unclear. What happened to the dna test on the bloody inhaler? Desire drugs or payment? Adams crime scene pics? The bum cleaning the blood off the windshield in episode 1?
@@j.jaxson3932 I hope we get to see outtakes. Definitely dating myself, but does anyone else remember the summer of "Who Shot J.R.?"? Ask your parents or grandparents or Google it. Many different endings were shot, so even the actors did not know whodunnit. I heard the same thing was done with Your Honor.
@@bond2k3 because the script is written by people who have no idea how a courtroom works. No judge would ever 'narrate' a 911 call like that. Pretty much all the trial stuff was complete fiction and nowhere close to how things happen in reality. It would have been much more interesting if he had to rig a trial that was realistically being conducted.
Does anyone remember the black Turck that was following Adam at the beggining, the same truck that was witness of everything and the same one that almost ran over him when he was taking photos at night? WHO TE FUCK WAS IN THAT VAN??
It is quite clear really - Adam was about to go to Jimmy's to meet him, but Elizabeth called him, probably texted him that it is very important and it is about his mom. So it makes sense that he would cancel his meeting with Phia and would go to Elizabeth.
It's plausible, but that's not enough to fill that gaping wound of a plot hole. If there were such an event to explain the leap from Adam leaving the house after getting Fia's msg and Adam sitting by the river, doing what he does best -- ignoring a ringing phone, then that event had better happen on screen.
When Michael yells at Elizabeth for telling Adam about Robin's affair, it seems to me to be Michael's own displaced anger towards Robin for having an affair.
I think it would have been more exciting if he had sent Adam off somewhere in secret, like 5 episides ago & then the suspense of Jimmy hunting him down
I liked Adam, he was a good kid. He always wanted to tell the truth, it was Micheal that wanted him to keep quite. I was shocked and devastated when Adam got shot and died in his dad’s arms. 😢 Jimmy never would have killed Adam because his daughter Loved him. I agree that part with Michael running back and forth from the window and bodyguards was stupid. As if he didn’t just throw something through the window!
They opened many doors to go through but never addressed the doors. It was written like an ongoing series laying out some foundations then they put brakes on! Loved your reviews! 💕
I think the filming situation changed due to the pandemic. The actors may have other commitments. Also, I understand the script changed as they went along.
The way episode 10 opened is one of the most bizarre & confusing ways I've ever seen a shows finale start with. How did the directors go from that cliff hanger to Adam with the grandma??
I also love how Michael has no Control over his teenage son and just lets the kid do whatever he wants...kid was in an accident killed some kid ran away and doesn’t even get yelled at or punished...Michael clears the courtroom no spectators BUT he allows his son to watch it! These are things the producers and writers don’t think about...there’s no way a real judge would let his son sit in the closed off courtroom of the case he’s trying to fix because of what the son did!!!’ It’s just ridiculous writing but whatever what are you gonna do...I could have done a bette job but I don’t have an uncle in Hollywood to give me a tv show....
@@adrianagomez8005 so you have no problem with him leaving the kid to die and than trying to bang the kids sister? Wow you’re a very forgiving person ....if someone got into an accident with your brother and left him to die and than wanted to date you I’m sure you’d date the guy!
@@brunogiovannisantinijunior4380 Its not that but theres no point is letting Adam die, and Adam didnt leave him to die he tried to save him by giving him CPR and attempted to call 911 but he was wheezing and couldnt breath and had a panic attack.. its honestly not his fault
How on earth did kofis step brother ended up shooting Adam he was standing far away from the main target such a great show but the ending was so disappointing and trash
I can't say about hitting Adam, but missing Carlo was rrealistic. It was at least 10 meters (30 feet) he is a kid who probably shot 10 rounds in his life, he shot on double action (so a heavy pull on the trigger), with one hand, it doesn't look like he even aimed properly.
I feel like the Adams mom cheating on Michael with a Desire gang member was written in as a justification for her being in the gang's territory. Adam basically had no reason to be in that part of town other than the fact that his mom was killed there. You could make a really far fetched conclusion that accident would've never happened unless the mom cheated on Michael.
Great acting. Disappointed with the ending. I was so emotionally detatched to the characters at the end, so much I didnt feel sorry for Micheal and Adam in the final scenes. I just didnt care anymore lol
Right god so many people feeling the same disconnect it’s crazy(or maybe not actually) to think everyone almost everyone felt that same disconnect from the characters and kinda feeling almost tricked into coming back each week. Also I think because COVid and the lack of shit to do/good content had something to do with coming back. Let’s face it, we are bored lol.
after watching a few episodes i just had to call some things into question. 1) in episode 1 why tf didn't Adam pull over during his asthma attack? 2) Did the Baxter boy NOT see Adam coming to have some chance at avoiding him? 3) Why didnt the judge just get rid of the car himself? I know its for the plot of the story to kick things off but im pretty sure if someone is having an asthma attack while driving the first thing that they should think to do in that moment to collect themselves is to pull over.
Really great comments. There was a lot of unrealized potential with some of these storylines. Maybe the series should have been two more episodes in length to play with some of these storylines. The whole teacher/student relationship wasn't really necessary unless they would do more with it. Adam dating the guy's daughter made zero sense. They could have done it where he met her but didn't know who she was until much later at which point he could struggle with wanting to tell her. Instead the little psychopath knows exactly who she is and dates her. Adam is just a terrible and stupid character. Like I can't think of anyone who would make all those intentional choices. I also don't understand how michael is the judge in a trial where HIS own vehicle was involved in the hit and run that was the motive for the murder case. Are there only two judges in all of new orleans? I agree with the idea that it's a bit of lunacy for Michael to think if he fixes this trial with Carlo that suddenly everything is going to be ok. The guy thinks he killed his son and left him in the street to die. Of course he was going to execute him as soon as the trial was over. The story really made no sense. Overall the series was a 6.5. Entertaining but if you think about the plot at all it quickly falls apart.
Unanswered questions: 1) What made Costello go to the cemetery? 2)How did Michael mess with the juror's phone? 3) What changes (in the Baxters perspective) if Adam was the killer instead of the judge? 4) Why is Lee still working in this case? Wouldn't her pro bono work help more to someone who was actually alive? 5)What about the scene where the dog vomits? They made it seem like it was going to trigger something and then nothing. And a lot lot more...
Adam is THE worst character ever! Omg. I dont know what to say here. This story is just not fulfilled. Everything you said here is on point! I totally agree!
This show had a good start but fizzled by the end. I was so let down by the end of this series. Great acting, but the storyline was a let down. Thanks for reviewing each week.
I just missed the live chat by 5 minutes 😢 In last week’s episode, I really wanted Isiah Whitlock Jr. to instantly turn from Charlie into his character of Clay from The Wire and give us his famous “shiiiiit” when he found out that it was Adam. This show had a fantastic concept and could have been so much better if not for Covid - I really wish they waited to make it because it’s obvious that the script and production value had to be adjusted due to Covid. I absolutely could not stand Michael Stuhlbarg as Jimmy Baxter, he was not believable at all- I would have rather seen a James Gandolfini type actor in that role. As you can probably tell, I put shows like The Sopranos, The Wire and Breaking Bad (Better Call Saul too) on a pedestal, so I had really high expectations for this show, so for the third and final time, I’ll say that it would have been so much better if not for damn Covid. One last note, I think it’s a Showtime thing to put deleted scenes in the intros of the next episodes of their shows because they do it regularly on Shameless and they also did it on The Affair.
So the original ending was about Jimmy taking Michael's son away from him, read an article with show's creator being interview saying this "When Michael Desiato is outside Jimmy’s hotel, while inside the hotel, his nemesis brings his son, Adam, into his arms, holds him, and looks at Cranston outside, like, I’ve got him, I own him, you’ve lost him, you’ve lost your child to the devil. Effectively, that is what that moment is saying, and I thought that would be the ending, because, Michael can pull that off completely. Yeah." and then asked why he changed it Because it became a bigger show. The heart of it is obviously, will a father succeed in protecting his son? Will a father keep his son alive against all the odds? That feels like the heart of things, but as we wrote more and developed it more, it became a wider-reaching show than that. It goes into the politics of race, the politics of class, the politics of corruption in New Orleans, generally, the corruption of police in New Orleans, and beyond. All those elements are there. It felt completely wrong to leave those elements out of the ending. It feels right to me that the person who probably has suffered the most as a consequence of the actions of the hero in the show, which is Eugene, should be at the center of things in those last moments, and what’s happened to him to be what we should be thinking about and looking at and working over in our heads, as we watch. So it seems like his idea for the show became too big for the creator to handle so they made last second changes, I think thats what made the plot have so many holes inside the show.
Wow I couldn't tell, her anger overrode it a bit where I didn't notice lmao. Her acting was peak perfection, every inflection and mannerism - the disgust at knowing everything he justified to protect Adam...
Lee is from the Garden District of New Orleans, but one or both of her parents may be from England. I have known other people whose parents are immigrants, who "inherit" parts of an accent. Jimmy's accent comes and goes, too.
Thank you. I did enjoy this show I was confused. Thought I missed an episode or something at the beginning lol. But I guess the grandma must have told him about his mother and that’s why he didn’t go. But they should shown that 🤷♀️ I’m not going to lie. I did feel horrible the son died I did feel sorry for him in a way. He was just a kid and The circumstance of the accident makes me feel sorry for him
Argument against Charlie being Robin's lover: Nancy saw the pictures and so did Elizabeth. Nancy knows Charlie fairly well. Elizabeth is close to Charlie and adores him. Even if Charlie has put on weight in the year since Robin died, both ladies would have recognized Charlie.
I live on the street that this show was shot on, 7th street in the garden district in NOLA. One night they shot a scene where adam was talking to his grandmother ( i am guessing to tell him that his mother had an affair) but for some reason they cut that out of the series.
Or the background of the characters. One of my favorite stories is Wicked by Gregory Maguire. Has anyone else read it or seen the play? It is about the origins of Oz. I also love The Rifleman. The show went off the air the year I was born in 1963. I have been a ranch hand at the McCain Ranch for about five years. I love reading stories and other points of view about Lucas and Mark.
Poll: which of these possibilitie3s would be the better ending to this mess? Here are my suggestions, in order? 1. As Michael walks into the empty courtroom, everyone has figured out what he did, he pulls out a gun and kills himself. The would be the honorable this to do. 2. Michael had multiple opportunities to do the right thing in this episode, any one of which would be a better ending. 3. Eugene shoots and kills ( Take your pick) 1. Carlos, 2. Jimmy, 3. Michael, 4. all of the above. All shootings would have been justified.
Nice review! I was watching the whole season this week, enjoyed watching your review after every episode. Adam annoyed the fuck out of me. I dont even like the acting. He always had this dumb expression on his face. I actually watched the first episode of the original show from Israel (Im Israeli). One difference (among others) is that the "Adam" character seems a lot more rebellious and less off a "good boy". Now Im wondering if the ending is different, but I dont think I have the energy to watch another entire season.
Tal Matan, that is what I have read. I am excited and interested in seeing Kvodo. Has anyone watched Grand Hotel. There is both an American and Spanish version. I enjoyed them both, but my favorite is the Spanish version.
Did Adam have PTSd? I certainly am no expert on the subject. However,I read in an article that Hunter Doohan talked to a psychologist about PTSD prior to playing Adam.
Did Kofi's little brother shot Adam by mistake or did he know it was Adam that drove the car? i was so confused by the cutting scenes, cause Carlo and Adam were very far away from each other, so there was no way he just 'missed' his shot. But then again, it wouldn't make sense for him to kill Adam instead of the guy who murdered his brother. That whole scene was confusing as hell to me
Steve, I agree wholeheartedly with this commentary. So many unnecessary characters, plotlines. Series would have been perfect with 6 episodes. Do you think they were hoping to get another season like Big Little Lies?
I always look forward to your reviews. I dunno, I didn't hate it...I think the whole premise was that as a parent you will do anything to save your child. And even tho the Baxter's are so awful you still feel bad for them that they lost their son. Overall I liked this series. You should review "The flight attendant". Very interesting. I HATED the ending to that one. The last three episodes or so just feel flat! However, episodes 1-6 were so good. And the acting was really spot on as well.
I don't feel bad for the Baxter's, or the other family, cause both of them got Eugene's entire family killed. Neither of them deserved sympathy as justice doesn't prevail when it comes to racism, both inflicted by criminal and judicial means. However, if Michael took responsibility for Adam, none of that would've happened. Even if he did the right thing, his son would've gotten killed. Justice is truly blind....
Thanks everyone for joining me week to week. You were all great, I appreciate every single one of you. Please subscribe to the channel and stay with me for more shows! It helps me so much, you have no idea. Also, check out my review for WandaVision episode 6! ua-cam.com/video/EZg4eh-d7Ak/v-deo.html
Nothing about the black SUV
I guess season 2 will be better 🤷🏻♀️

I had to fast forward through his ridiculous scenes. His character was utterly repugnant. I was glad when he was killed, but I'd have preferred him being eaten by ants or some other grizzly fate more appropriate for such a pos. He wrecked the entire show.
Unnecessary plotlines:
All very good points.

3. Jimmy basically was letting Michael know he knew it was Adam

Think of Adam as the latest incarnation of Brody's daughter on Homeland.
omg that's right, the truck im dieing
When Charlie is reeling off the names of the corrupt cops, did you notice how Rudy Cunningham's name went unmentioned?

Yes a lot of potential squandered here because they had crap in later episodes.
Finished it..agreed there was some plot lines that weren't nesscxary and I don't really get how it took the officer and lawyer long to realise the dates etc or am I missing somthing? That being said the ending floored me..very sad ,but love how the kid inadvertently killed the true killer of Rocco
Damn. I just typed this but hey, 👏🏾
This comment sums up my thoughts perfectly.
Adam would have got what was coming to him if not for Michael's intervention. It should have been Michael who died, thereby leaving Adam to the mercy of Nature.
Exactly, Adam was careless Michael lost a lot for him but Adam then went on to date fía he is just an idiot
Maybe if they do a second season the whole mother affair plotline will play into it
We never figured out why Adam felt it was a good idea to dump his “hot for teacher” lover & start sniffing up Sofia’s skirt. ✌️😳
It makes you wonder what the hell they see in Adam in the first place
@@SuperMurray2009 yes, he was not much of a looker either. He has that face you just wanna smack once you get to know him 😂✌️😆

Excellent analysis I agree with everything you said. Not making Adam likable was dramatic poison for this series.
If I missed something with this please tell me cause that was the nail in the coffin that to me, made this whole ending feel rushed and not well thought out
Even with all its flaws, I still enjoyed this show.
Difference? Writing
Yes, life has it's flaws, complications and extra plot lines too
Good acting piss poor writing. Unrealistic court proceedings.
His name is Eugene not the black kid.
So much potential squandered.
so true!
I loved it. I don't know really know how I feel about the ending though.

Couldn’t of said it better myself thank you.
Interesting idea of combining Nancy and Lee, that could have worked well.
Amen! I couldn't have said it better myself! Although I would give it a 7/10.

It's a limited series but I would have liked to see what happens with the other characters...Charlie, Nancy, the step mother, something more about what happened to Michael's wife, Fia's plan to leave her family, etc..
No just drop it, let the fire burn. Stop picking up dirt out of the ashes. Ugh this show left such a bad taste in my mouth.
Same! It was so good and eve tho they were bad boys we all cheered for michael and adam to get away and they just had to kill adam.. Very stupid ending
I wanted to see what was going to happen to Michael and everyone he affected to save his son.
What happened to Jimmy getting DNA on the inhaler they found at the crime scene?

His wife blames him
@@yousefqasrawi2073 Well, I don't know if she does or doesn't.
I'm telling you I wanted Jimmy to kill Adam with his own damn hands.

can someone explain how Nancy connected the dots at the cemetery? i'm just a lil lost haha
The guy at the cemetery’s anniversary was on the 10th (the day he saw Michael). So when he told Nancy the story about his anniversary, she was like don’t you mean it happened on the 9( the day of the murder). He said no, then she realized he was right about the date.
Michael & adam’s alibi doesn’t stand because they need it on 9 th but now Nancy knows it’s 10th
Amazing that she figured out the dates but couldnt catch a clue when the judge had a rag with blood all over it and changed the topic! hahaha
Carlo should have been found guilty.
I know, right? How the fuck was he not?
I thank they had too many characters for this show, if some were deleted they might have been able to build the main characters more. You’re right we didn’t like Adam at the end but I did like many of the secondary characters more and that’s bad writing. I agree the acting was great. The last episode was tense though and wrapped everything up and moved really fast, so I did like the finale.
Agreed!
agreed!!
It kept you wanting more b it never gave it to you that’s the problem.
My take is Jimmy planned to take Adam away from Michael emotionally and throw it in Michael's face.
A woman as attractive and personable as the teacher, certainly wouldn't need to troll high school students to hook up with men.

The acting overall was good (7.0) but the plot development was just baaaad (4.0). I’m speechless with this show. So much wasted potential😔
What did Michael write on the note?
I wonder how much the pandemic siderailed the production of this show? It had so much promise, but ultimately feels like they had to scrap about 2 or 3 episodes and just used bits and pieces to tell the story. I'm not mad at this ending, I actually liked this arc for Adam. It just could've been way better!
Pandemic shouldn’t have affected the story in meaningful ways. They could have easily delayed if they wanted more scenes but the need to social distance didn’t affect the story in any way
Well Considering Bryan Cranston HAD covid, I'd imagine it took a big toll on the shows potential.
Like you, Gina so reminded me of Lady MacBeth.
No, Jimmy bought the dirt bike.

It was Jimmy and his family who did the killing! And it was about live and death. Baxter Family is the killer.

Does anyone remember the black Turck that was following Adam at the beggining, the same truck that was witness of everything and the same one that almost ran over him when he was taking photos at night?

It is quite clear really - Adam was about to go to Jimmy's to meet him, but Elizabeth called him, probably texted him that it is very important and it is about his mom. So it makes sense that he would cancel his meeting with Phia and would go to Elizabeth.
Adam answered Grandma's calls, but perilously ignored Daddy's.
It's plausible, but that's not enough to fill that gaping wound of a plot hole.
Unanswered questions:
1) What made Costello go to the cemetery?
2)How did Michael mess with the juror's phone?
3) What changes (in the Baxters perspective) if Adam was the killer instead of the judge?
4) Why is Lee still working in this case? Wouldn't her pro bono work help more to someone who was actually alive?
5)What about the scene where the dog vomits? They made it seem like it was going to trigger something and then nothing.
And a lot lot more...

This show had a good start but fizzled by the end. I was so let down by the end of this series. Great acting, but the storyline was a let down. Thanks for reviewing each week.
Wait what happened to the thing with the black SUV that followed Adam around? Did they do something with that, I may have forgot?
nope. nada
"You don't want to make your characters to serve the plot, you want the plot serving your characters."
Well said.
Don't forget THE NIGHT OF, an excellent series!
So right about Jimmy. Michael Stuhlbarg is a great actor, but this was wrong casting imo.
I still have to many unanswered questions!
Yeah." and then asked why he changed it
Because it became a bigger show.
The conversation between Michael and Lee was ridiculous because Lee's accent kept slipping.
Lol when she gets mad she turns British
Wow I couldn't tell, her anger overrode it a bit where I didn't notice lmao. Her acting was peak perfection, every inflection and mannerism - the disgust at knowing everything he justified to protect Adam...
It wasn’t until this scene that I googled the actress because I heard her accent and sure enough discovered she’s a Brit.
@@CT-yz9nx I already knew who she was from true detective. She''s been in movies for yrs.She fine too.Love her sexy ass.
Lee is from the Garden District of New Orleans, but one or both of her parents may be from England. I have known other people whose parents are immigrants, who "inherit" parts of an accent. Jimmy's accent comes and goes, too.
The finale was actually good I did not expect it to simply end on a huge downer.
it was def better than some previous episodes!
I too was relieved when Adam got shot. Now had he accidentally shot Phia that would've been a true tear jerker.
It started so good , it kind of reminded me of breaking bad but every episode got weaker and weaker.
Thank you. I did enjoy this show
I was confused.
I think the very ending made up for the weird/drawn out parts of the series. Cranston needs to direct EVERY episode.
I live on the street that this show was shot on, 7th street in the garden district in NOLA. One night they shot a scene where adam was talking to his grandmother ( i am guessing to tell him that his mother had an affair) but for some reason they cut that out of the series.
very interesting!
Acting was great!!! Writing was bad i give it a c-.
Just finished the show On Demand. Agree 100% with your review. Also wonder how in the hell was Carlo found not guilty. Maybe need to watch it again.
Kind of mad that the episode literally end of with Adam just dying, that’s it
Same wanted to see the aftermath
I really hated this series. I wanted to like it but it had so many inconsistencies that just made no sense!
Why is that?
Wow I agree 100 percent about the Nancy thing..I haven't herd u say it yet but it makes no sense that the jury would let Carlo off
Agreed. The video of the jail scene, with the open cell door, alone was enough for a conviction.
What about the black car that witnessed Adam killing Roco?
Did Adam have PTSd? I certainly am no expert on the subject. However,I read in an article that Hunter Doohan talked to a psychologist about PTSD prior to playing Adam.
Did Kofi's little brother shot Adam by mistake or did he know it was Adam that drove the car? i was so confused by the cutting scenes, cause Carlo and Adam were very far away from each other, so there was no way he just 'missed' his shot. But then again, it wouldn't make sense for him to kill Adam instead of the guy who murdered his brother. That whole scene was confusing as hell to me
i think it was by mistake
@@leviathan2515 I think so, at least thats what they intended us to see, but wow the scene was terribly edited.
Also, can we talk about how far fetched the war vet scene was 😂 ... I actually laughed
If you stop to think about it for more than thirty seconds most of the show is incredibly far fetched so the war vet scene fits right in.
Steve, I agree wholeheartedly with this commentary. So many unnecessary characters, plotlines. Series would have been perfect with 6 episodes. Do you think they were hoping to get another season like Big Little Lies?
showtime is def going to try, cause it had big viewership for them
I always look forward to your reviews.
Can’t wait to watch this video! I haven’t seen the finale it yet but I will in the morning.
