I had doubts that I would be able to invest in Bryan Cranston's role as a judge because of his iconic performance in Breaking Bad. Before the end of the first episode I'd forgotten about Walter White.
Seemed to be such a realistic show until the man found the inhaler . Surely the cops would have found it at the scene, but I suppose they are getting us off to a quick start with these families knowing each other right away.
@@-ManLikeWills Haha. I dont know how many episodes you've watched...but my observation doesn't seem to matter because the inhaler has so far been forgotten.😒
I was totally yelling at the screen for all the same reasons you mentioned. So many witnesses and digital/photo trail of everything. For both dad and son. I wonder who was in that SUV following him? I do wonder if they will sell that information to the mob dad and then the Judge will be blackmailed the rest of his career. Thats really the only way I can see it going - the mom would probably want that kid killed but the dad might say they can use him to their advantage. This show kind of reminds me of the show you reviewed earlier this year - Defending Jacob.
i am really enjoying this, and i absolutely would like to have known more about Adam’s Mother. it was a (partial) second viewing that made me understand why Adam was in the ninth district because of his mother. still, he spent so very much time at the scene of the (crime, considering the fact that he left), that i found it a little difficult to believe that nobody would have seen that very loud disaster. still, i’m up for something engrossing and not silly.
I am wondering how thorough the investigation was. Could the reason Adam is being chased be because he was there that day? I think the robbery gone wrong is too convenient. I hope we have flashback scenes. My guess is she and Adam had a big fight right before she died.
Reserving judgement but it was entertaining in a very fictional way. Huge questions why the educated son of a respected judge would not report the accident. Could be his Mothers death in the area will play a part. The inhaler left at the scene but not found by police supposedly investigating a fatal hit and run ????? The judge personally involving himself in a criminal case and then questioning the police witness in court ? I thought defence lawyers did that. Very odd. Educated son old enough to shag his girlfriend yet doesn't realize blood won't come out of clothing. Sure thing. I'll stick with it as there isn't much else on TV these days. It reminds me of Apple TV's godawful Defending Jacob
As someone who watched the Israeli show and loved it, I gotta say, from first view - this is a great adaptation. I mean, I know where this show is going, I know the end, I know all the twists, but still somehow - I'm intrigued. There are quite a few significant changes to the original script that make it quite different from the original show. The conclusion will probably be the same, but the events leading there are quite different and I like it. If you liked the first two episodes - strap in, you're in for a wild ride.
The accident scene really didnt ring true and was such an eyeroller I dont think the series will make up for it. They tried too hard to give Adam excuses in order to make him sympathetic.
Don’t forget the cell phone. His print were on that as well. Prob going to see an episode someone diving to look for it. Welp starting to watch episode 2
Steve Varley, you bring up a good point about Jimmy Baxter not be able to reach his. Son Rocco. Later, Adam will not be able to reach his father. Also, Adam howls when he learns of his mother's death. Gina Baxter howls in grief and pain about Rocco's death.
There is going to be an issue with the gang near Yaya's, the mob, and who was following him. Will they work together or will it be a triangle? Also, I predict his politician friend will help him, but will get killed doing so. So many loose ends, also how did the mother die? Was she murdered at Yaya's? what is the story there and how does it connect? It was almost like the gang members knew who Adam was.
i do like the actors. when (Micheal Shulbarg) first presents his son with the moped, one gathers the fact that there is something extremely (creepy-menacing -‘off’) about him. what i was not aware of, however, is the fact that John Gotti’s real life son was killed in an automobile accident involving a neighbor. the man later disappeared, and was never found. it might’ve been an interesting introduction (or an Easter egg for the viewers), since, imo, it couldn’t be more obvious that this situation is exactly what produced the story line.
Good premiere - until the inhaler still at the scene found by the mob driver. Totally unrealistic; ridiculous the episode lost so much credibility with that one scene unfortunately. Lazy writing and treating the audience with utter contempt. Not hard to maybe have a corrupt cop whose on the mobs payroll hand the inhaler to the mob family or have the driver take a piss near a bush and he sees the inhaler in the bush or similar. To simply have it sitting in the middle of the accident scene with blood/DNA all over it and the audience is expected to believe the police just missed it. So stupid.
In order to match DNA they need a sample to compare it to and its doubtful the kid has DNA on file. The bloody rag with the blood of the deceased on it is soo much more of a problem. Of course, if they do end up suspecting the kid from some other evidence then that DNA on the inhaler could be a real problem because they can get a court order for a DNA specimen. The people following him saw everything so there is no way that doesn't come back in the future.
Late to the party here but was waiting for YellowJackets s2 before renewing Showtime subscription and jumping into this show. Now I have 2 seasons to binge. Happy to see you reviewed this, enjoyed this first episode :)
ha ha I love your pitch....send me a few bucks so I can watch TV all week, lol. No kidding, that's funny. I AM SO GLAD I FOUND YOU~! Just now, too. I'm a newbie. I loved your review (a 10/10) and you seem to love and hate the same things I did in this episode, so I'll be counting on ya. And after a few tries I'll see what I can do about those few $$ you need for popcorn and equipment and your time. Anyway, I'm here one year or so after watching only Ep 1 & 2 and like yourself, they did NOT draw me in. (So, 6.5 for me, so far ~ we differ there and I'll have to adjust when you say 7 I should be thinking my 5, etc. Anyway, the trailers looks so great and my brother told me this is a GREAT series, and I need one right now so I wanted to give it another chance. I didn't want to have to re-watch what I already did not find great, so your in depth and detailed review is extremely good for me~!! On to your review of Ep. 2 and on to watching 3 myself and then your review of that for tying the knots. Love your smiles and styles. Thanks, Steve~!!!
I think I figured out the the layout of the house. Adam and Michael's rooms are upstairs- unless Adam has a booty call. He uses the guestroom for that.
Good review I joined when you were reviewing handmaids. I like this show but a lot of people are saying it’s not very good. I love bryan Cranston but the writing could be better.
I'll come back when I have watched the episode. I found a strange TV show; Romulus which I am watching at the moment. If you know of it (subtitles available) I'd be curious as to your thoughts.
@@SteveVarleyShow It might be hard for you to find, a bit of a combination of BBC, Sky Italy etc. but here is a "safe" link. Lots of magic, fantasy, ancient tribes before the rise of Rome www3.himovies.to/tv/romulus-64644
To much evidence against your honors son in first episode. I could not imagine how anyone morally or otherwise could think they could cover it up. Good dilemma morally unacceptable form the start for me.
How did Adam pay for the gas? Going to the Jones house is going to come back and haunt Michael. I don't think judges are allowed to visit crimes scenes independently.
I'm on episode 1 now, and, I'm sad to say I've never watched a more boring first 15 minutes of any series....I REALLY hope it gets better....I only wound up here cuz I looked up "your honor most boring"
Does this thing get better? I an halfway through second episode but cranston's character and that dopey kid of his are so insipid I am having a hard time staying with it. I feel more sympathy toward the gangster and his situation. Are we supposed to care for the judge's character and the situation with his son. What's going on here?
So I upgraded my cable deal and I'm receiving free Showtime for a limited time. I click on this show (Episode 6) and I see a stream of urine entering a toliet Bowl. Really? Did the director this was edgy or artsy? Great cinematography? Perhaps that should be the review of this series.

The plot is great for conflict and suspense - the acting is topnotch. Not sure about the writing or how fleshed out the characters are.
