Also this was foreshadowed when Michael said that at the end of his runs he pretends hes running for his son's life and it makes him push harder. Then he had to actually run to save his son.

So poor Kofe suffered the gas torture from the bent cops , handcuffed to a pole for hours in a room and not knowing why, spent all that time in the cells, and the terror of almost being killed when that camera shut off in the physical room, and then died a painful horrific death through no fault of his own. And the actual person that killed Rocco got to continue life and even starting sleeping with the sister. Yep. Adam had to die. After Kofe died there was no hope or anything left in me to wish to happen in this story. Moral of the story: Just do the right damn thing, because that which you fear will happen no matter what. Manipulate, exploit, abuse situations all you want but death will come when it has to. Consequences. Rest in Peace to all the real Kofe's and God give strength the ones wrongfully in jail today.

This is a recap, not an explanation.
The explanation of what happened is you lose your moral equilibrium when you don't let karma run it's natural course.
I was hoping you would go into detail about the note Judge forged, which got the audio played. Although it played on the emotions of the Jury, and was probably what secured the not guilty, the Judge seemed like he wanted ALL of the Baxter's to immediately realise it was Adam.
He had just discovered Adams relationship with the Baxter girl. It seemed like a phycological play, like "It was actually my son! So you can't exactly kill me in good faith now, but your daughter LOVES my boy, so you can't kill him either!"
Adam was the BAD/EVIL energy the entire series. He killed the Baxter kid and covered his tracks, got his HONOURABLE father to help him cover up the mess, burdened his guilt on his teacher/lover, dumped her for the sister of the boy he killed. Carlo would not have killed Kofe for any other reason, it was justified because he believed Kofe was responsible.
Kofe's brother didn't hit his target, but he hit the RIGHT ONE.

Remember that Adam actually tries to turn himself in after talking with his father but his father stopped it. He wasn’t entirely bad, he was riddled with guilt the first half of the show. His father continually talked him out of owning up to it. He just became comfortable with the lie. The judge wanted to keep his son alive. Lots of people would be willing to hurt others to protect their kids. Leaving the boy to die is evil, no doubt though but he did try to own up to it.

    • @ceoshadez9580
      @ceoshadez9580 3 роки тому +9

@@strafer8764 You're mistaken. After saving himself (from Asthma attack) he left the scene, did not answer the return call from police dispatch, went home and tried to get rid of the evidence. He was feeling fear of repercussion, he was never remorseful. He told his Dad to share the burden. Probably knowing deep down, that his HONOURABLE father would fix the situation. It was the Judges idea to hand himself initially. Had he not realised that it was a Baxter that was killed (while they were in the station), the Judge would have made Adam say it was him.
If the accident was handled accordingly, I don't think that Adam would have even gone to jail and I don't believe the Baxter's would have wanted revenge. Vehicular manslaughter with mitigating events (the asthma attack), he would have gone to drivers safety and a few years probation.

I liked the subtle commentary about black lives being disposable to uphold white privilege. Michael using Lee and getting her fired. Kofi...self explanatory. The mom and three kids and the Baxters being like oh whatever nobody cares about them anyway.
There was one scene that really drove this home. When Adam got in a fight at school, his grandma said “don’t let his life be ruined by one mistake. He’s just a kid”, and in the previous scene Kofi told Lee that a judge told him he was a thug/criminal in training when he stole a candy bar or something when he was ten years old.
This show had so much commentary that was so we done because it was so subtle and didn’t beat you over the head with it. But it worked that way because in real life it’s like we have become so accustomed to “that’s just the way it is” that we are blind to the inequities of our society.

I personally think this show is brilliant - one of the best crime dramas I’ve seen in a while: Great, but not excellent. I think people who criticize the series for dumb characters or the progression of the plot are missing the point: The idea of this series is not to show perfect choices or the most clever or logical humans - the complete opposite, in fact. Often times we don’t make logical choices and act irrationally, which is exactly why the show ends the way it does.
Aside from the plot, however, Your Honor does an astonishingly good job at building tension with the writing, camera angles and the tension created with conversation, music and pacing. Whenever you think what’s going to happen next, the show throws you in the opposite direction. In a way, this is what makes it so good. It goes along with the aforentioned theme of bad choices, which makes it thrilling and different.
I hope there is not going to be a second season - you can tell the ending was intentionally written to leave loose ends. It is up to the imagination of each viewer to figure out what comes afterwards. Regardless, the series is ultimately on point at showing though faced with difficult decisions, different actions always have consequences.

I watched each episode twice. Adam was so naive, his killing at the end was the only way out really. The whole story focused on how much a father could love his son and what he would do for his children. Jimmy seemed to love his daughter unconditionally as well. You could just feel their pain because of their brilliant acting. They have a season 2 with the judge going after the bad guys and redeeming himself this way. Eventually locking Carlos up for life.

The Baxters were the ones who needed the karma to come and get them. Adam would be in jail for hit and run manslaughter if it wasn't for them going to kill him, and his whole family (if you take into account what happened to Kofis family.) Despite their murder of children, they get a happy ending, with their bigoted murderer son getting off with no consequences. I would have been okay with it if everyone in that room died, but this just isn't enough for me. I feel like the message they were trying to convey was inconsistent, with good people doing bad things getting punished, and bad people doing terrible things getting away with no consequences.

    • @EscargoTouChaud

Agreed! But in the real world it's also unfair like this. Just think about it: The poor (in double sense) Jones family versus the powerful, rich Baxters. The "sophisticated" criminals get away and are even affiliated with dirty cops, while the street thugs die or end up in jail.

  • @MichelMawon4982

I just binged this show and had to come on to see what the "internets" were saying, I'm very surprised that so many people found Adam unsympathetic, SO SURPRISED. I sympathized with him moment one and hated the narrative that he just left Rocco to die. Even when the Baxters realized it was him, there's no accounting for the fact that he called 911, but couldn't speak for help. I really felt sorry that the writers decided he'd die gurgling and gasping for breath like it was divine retribution...maybe it was...for Michael. Adam was just another casualty in Michael's bad decision making. Adam feared for his life, justified or not, he couldn't breathe and instead of securing his air by finding his inhaler, he abandoned his fear and his own life to administer CPR and call 911. The story that didn't pay off was that ominous black SUV that kept showing up. They obviously had time to take pictures of the accident, take note of the license plate number to try and extort Michael after hearing the news story. That would have made more sense than an irate asshole waiting to pump gas who was suspicious enough to record the car ahead of him (before seeing blood on the shirt). Adam ALWAYS felt wrong about not being held accountable. He wasn't just having some good time in life. He even entered into this very dangerous arrangement with the sister all because he wanted to personalize who he killed. He was very sorry and it was a clear mistake. He was obviously a child and not a sophisticated criminal. While I understand Michael fearing for his son's life when seeing the Baxters at the police station, he's the judge and he should have been able to think through the scenarios better to know it was better to tell the truth, if not in the beginning, certainly when Kofi was murdered but unquestionably, when Kofi's family was murdered. He should have also let Carlo go to jail with that last interaction with Jimmy understanding that, for him, it wouldn't ever be over.

  • @glenn212now

I hated the ending and found it unbelievable. That kind of Shakespearean twisty ending just doesn't work for most modern stories. It plays as manufactured. The show was already treading on thin ice with the premise. There is no organized crime mob in New Orleans anymore. The city's crime is more the Lower Ninth ward gang stuff. There's no Tony Soprano guys walking around. And in what universe would Adam EVER start dating the sister of the kid he killed? It was just one unbelievable plot line after another. When a show relies on all these unrealistic stories, it signals bad writers. They don't have enough faith in the ability to make a modern story interesting, so they start going for the crappy, soap opera, wild coincidence stuff. Awful writing. Great acting, though. i really thought Bryan Cranston did a wonderful job.

Eugene Jones pre plan to kill Carlo, that was PREMEDITATED. Yes, he lost his family, but he was a gang member and murdered Carlo...he got "justice" by getting out free? No, he deserved to do time. As for Adam, he was remorseful, felt guilty that's why he hung around Fia. Fia what gave up baby, because Adam accidentally killed her brother? So even the baby paid?...Don't like ending made no sense...

Im hoping for second season with more of the Baxters. I love gangster movies. Adam got what he deserved for not listening to his dad and thinking he could have a lasting relationship with the sister of the boy he killed.

Personally, the way season 2 ended..
I think there definetely should be a season 3,
but unsure if there should be a season 4.
A season 3 to wrap everything up would be very welcomed in my humble opinion.
Great series, very underrated, beautiful cinematics, should get way more praise

I absolutely loved this show, especially the ending. It was a magnificent portrayal of a Shakespearean tragedy with Michael as our tragic hero. Combine that with some poetic justice and you have an epic season finalee. I felt nothing but catharsis when Adam was accidentally shot. His death made sense to me. no one annoyed me more as a main protagonist than him, and perhaps the development of his character was meant to be this way, so that the viewing audience feels an extreme aversion to the kid and his endless stupidity when it comes to decision making.
I tried to sympathize with him in the beginning, though with each episode, you can't help but pray someone discovers the truth and holds Adam accountable.
Justice was served. You can't outrun Karma. It always catches up.

*** KINDA SPOILER ALERT but not really because you already know the plot ***
I absolutely HATE Adam with a passion.
    (1) Adam doesn't think to just pull the heck over for 2 seconds to grab inhaler. After he messes up he runs brining has father into this mess.
    (2) after the deed is done AND BOTH (Adam and pops) are in the shit together, Adam LITERALLY does everything to ensure they both get caught. Dude is trying to ruin both their lives. His dad tries to bury things and Adam runs around like a moron digging shit up.

What if season two (if there is one) revolves around a second trial of Carlo...
    Now hear me out...
Seeing as how Michael never knew that Adam was dating Fia, with that new piece of knowledge, an anonymous source could inform the prosecution of this, requesting a new trial based on the previous trial potentially being biased due to the relationship. This would put Michael on the offensive front this season, and the Baxtor family on the defense. Also, with Charlie being mayor, cleaning out NOLAPD with Nancy, the Baxtor family would have significantly less resources in their favor.

A judge and a criminal are one of the same, they both bend the rules to best suit themselves and will do anything to manipulate those around them into their tangled web. The judge knew right from wrong and should have sentenced his son the same way he sentences criminals that commit a crime. Being the son of a judge doesn't excuse you from the prison bars, I was annoyed that his son knowing what he'd just done didn't try to turn himself in against his father's wishes. The show dwells on the systematic injustice, societal classes and racism that is continuously carried out in the legal system, and those who will exploit the loopholes within it. Your honour is brilliant at shedding light on what one will be willing to do to protect his own, even if it means becoming a criminal to do it.The cast were exceptional 👏👏👏👏👏👏

What's the difference between a criminal that wears a suit and is supposed to be an upholding man or woman in society and the one you see on the street corner, when they both commit the same crime but are viewed in society differently due to their classes, demographics, ethnicity, social and economic status. 🤔

A show with great potential - but quickly veered into "Jumped The Shark" territory, and just kept going there week after week with ridiculous, extremely unrealistic "coincidences". I thought though that the dude who played Jimmy Baxter was awesome. Something very scary about him - his dead eyes maybe? ...And has there ever been a bigger feck up than Adam?

Brian Cranston is the master at playing actors trying to fix a situation, but the more he tries to fix it, the worse the situation gets due to all the characters surrounding him, also living their lives their way. You can fix something your way, but you can't predict every single nuance in everyone else's lives that cause their reactions. So, in the end Cranston's characters creates so much chaos for everyone. From the bumbling Dad in Malcom in The Middle, to Breaking Bad, and now this show.

Just watched the whole show am not gonie lie I just set off fireworks when Adam got killed right at the end he had no concious or remorse for what he did to that baxter kid. and it set a chain of events and consequences for everyone else including his father who moved heaven and earth to cover up for him it was poetic justice 👍

I'll have to watch it again, but I got the impression that Eugene was able to figure it out.
Think back to the judges chamber, when he realized that the judge wasn't driving the car, and he said "then who?".

I love this critique and loved the series. Interestingly I haven’t heard any commentary on Gina Baxter, Rocco’s grieving mother and the family provocateur. She is relentless and as heartless as her son Carlo. ..the ultimate irony of her character being her devout religious belief system and attempts to convert Fia. I would like a second season just to see the consequences of her actions with Carlo.
