I've never found a song before that encapsulates the feeling of missing someone you've never met. I live alone and have never had a serious friendship, let alone relationship. I daydream all the time about my partner. Sometimes, I comment on social media as if he is a real person, recalling events in our lives that never happened. Listening to this song never fails to make my cry when I realize those lyrics are true... It's not real, he doesn't exist, and probably never will. I still need to work on accepting the fact I'm dying alone, with maybe the exception of my cats. ❤

Weird how to everyone out there, this song means dreaming about a love that doesnt exist.
But to me, someone whos been there done that, this song is about a failed relationship. She even says at the end "the ending of a movie ive seen before."
How relationships feel so magical in the beginning, and yet, in a few short days, weeks, months or even years, it can all be over, but the memory of that magical feeling never goes away. I still miss the memories of relationships of my younger days. And perhaps i am lucky to have those memories, the laying in bed with no clothes on, knowing both of us are skipping work today, and no cares in the world. The meeting up at a party, not knowing how the night will end, just that we both want to end it together. The going out to the lake on a Tuesday, with cases of beer and a train of friends 6 cars long, with her in my passenger seat, staring at me with the windows down, air through her hair.
I've unfortunately never been able to hold onto a relationship, they've all come and gone and I've been single for years now at this point. Dating isn't what it used to be, especially for adults. If you're young, don't hold a feeling in your chest. Make a move. If you've got someone even half good, and they love you, then hold onto them. Try to make it work. I understand the whole "dont settle" thing. But, if you never settle, you're going to end up alone. Nobody is perfect.

the part in the song where she sings, “bedsheets, no clothes. touch me like nobody else does.” entirely encompasses the feelings of total intimacy and the harsh instrumentals make me think she’s trying so hard to make these “memories” feel real. like she has to force them into existence and the she realizes that she can’t, that person doesn’t have that relationship with her and she’s accepting that it’s hurting her. her confrontation of her delusion at the end of the song is a gorgeous demonstration of the complex thoughts/headspace people can get into during their “daydreams.” it asks the question of what happens when that goes to far, and i think it shows that beautifully. lizzy is far and away my favorite artist ever and this song is a huge part of why.

When i was 19 i had a huge crush on my best friend’s friend. One day he added me on facebook and i was so happy i could fly. We chatted for hours that day and i felt like this was the beginning of something beautiful. The next day i didn’t hear from him and found out later that he passed away. Turns out that the day after we talked he went to the sea with his buddies and drowned. It broke my heart and made me depressed for a long time. This song perfectly describes my feeling for that relationship that never happened. Thank you for this. It helps.

I relate to this I'm soon turning 23 nd same, but I had a crush on this one guy, i felt in love with him and he didn´t knew, we were close friends or that's what i thought but i ended up finding things bout him by other people, and that he wasn´t who he said he was, i decided to ignore it but then one day he deleted all his socials and disappearing without saying goodbye, so idk anything bout him, he was an online friend, but he made me feel special and different at some point.
At 32, and now married to my soulmate, this song makes me remember exactly how that feels: yearning for someone to love you and make you feel like like you deserve to be loved, and the fear that no one ever will, because you aren’t worth it.
