I tell anyone who will listen that Marty Stuart’s shows are top level in every way. I’ve seen him several times over the years and have always been bowled over by his talent.
Marty is the real deal such a great ambassador for country music! He gave us one his books when did our fundraiser for kids music program in Nashville!
I think Marty Stuart is the greatest link in the chain between what country music was to what it is today. He's seen and done it all. Plus he has incredible street cred. He's at the very top of the country music pyrimid.
I have got to travel to Mississippi and see the Congress of Country Music. Each one of us was born with a unique soul, each holds a piece to the puzzle of life ; each one of us needs to respect and uphold the person inside we were born to be, to resist the discouragement and the naysayers and the people who dont get us. Marty Stuart is one VERY solid man, with a core that radiates reassuring common sense and human values. One man like this is like a candle in the darkness....really really really makes a difference..
I saw Marty way back in the early 1990s when I was stationed in northern New York. He was performing at a small outdoor concert at a local rodeo. He was known at that time for "Hillbilly Rock" and his flashy country videos, which were so popular on CMT and TNN. He had skin-tight jeans, knee-high boots, big hair, a flashy rhinestone jacket, a killer band and a helluva good show; so basically, he was showing us then, who he truly was and was destined to be! He played the songs everyone knew from the videos and radio, he also played songs, I remember thinking at the time, that most of the fans my age wouldn't have a clue about- some amazing classic country stuff. He has ALWAYS honored those who laid the foundation for his generation and has continued to do so while also honoring and lifting others around him at the same time. He has spanned an amazing bridge from the legends he has played with and known and who's respect he rightfully earned to the role of a senior statesman of country music. He is in rare company in talent and status as a country, bluegrass, and American music STAR. Thanks for posting this interview!
Wow......Marty really nailed it when he said "Through the years, all of the different people had their own lick. I don't think the world needs any more homogeneous people". That hit home for me. I'm a lifelong guitarist/singer/performer. The following is a true story: Back in 1990 or so, I was in a dark place due to my soon-to-be ex-wife destroying my family. We had 3 young kids, and it was tearing me apart. So several of my friends insisted that I go bar hopping with them. I rode along with them. We had hit several clubs with live bands and all was well......until some of my friends were curious & wanted to check out this all-new country bar. So off we go. We noticed right away that it was a bunch of kids, all dressed in big cowboy hats, the boots, the giant belt buckles, etc. But NONE of them were true country. That would've been fine, but within 30 minutes, they all got up on that big stage & started LINE DANCING TO RAP. I KID YOU NOT. I told my friends: "You get me the hell out of this clown show right this very minute".......and I meant it. Nobody in their right mind would attempt to bake a cake using boiled onions in the center. It just doesn't work together. I love rock & roll, country, rockabilly, blues, bluegrass, and Gospel........but I keep them separated so that they each have that true individual identity. Trying to homogenize most anything is just plain wrong, and it leads to much worse. Look how they are trying to blur the lines with the genders.
I think we are very fortunate to have Marty Stuart still with us and still making great music. Ive been a fan since i first saw him perform Hillbilly Rock. Something about style fit in with everything i already loved. Funny thing is I knew his sister before i even heard of Marty. Sweet Jennifer, she actually work for us, it was only later i was at fan fair saw her, and she told me about Marty. "Last of the Honky Tonk Kings" right up your alley Marty. ua-cam.com/video/rvwcZVOgXVE/v-deo.htmlsi=H0dK0EwjHB_0sQx6 (5 second delay)
