I would love to have watched this all the way through, but your opening citation of Operation Eagleclaw, commanded by Col. Charlie Beckwith, came too close to home for me. No, I wasn't there, nor involved. One of my key senior year research papers for my B.A. in history was on Operation Eagleclaw, from the inception of the plan to the catastrophic events of Desert One. I studied the declassified documents thereto associated, the key civilian personnel in charge of it, and the horrific limitations they put upon the military personnel charged with carrying out the operation.
Carter's severe hampering of the operation, the micro-management of core aspects to the hardware involved, the training protocols, the time periods given for training, the handicapping of communication requirements, and the abjectly criminal decision by Carter to reject 'in place existing paradigms' for just such operations, in favor of an 'ad hoc' compilation of 'thrown together' groups, is why Operation Eagleclaw failed so horrifically.
The operation failed as a direct result of criminal incompetence by Carter and his Cabinet personnel stripping the military of the established paradigms and groups, which existed for just such operations. The decision by Carter, a former Naval officer who KNEW better than to circumvent existing operational groups and systems, in favor of the ad hoc consortium put together, and not giving them enough training time, proper equipment, proper comm protocols, and number of required aircraft, crew, and backups, is what got all those men dead for no good reason.
Carter and his Cabinet criminals made it worse, by placing the blame on Col. Charlie Beckwith, rather than standing up like men on their hind legs and assuming the responsibility for the failure of both the operation and the loss of lives of those involved in Operation Eagleclaw.
This is the reason why, on the day that Carter dies, I'll pour myself a crystal tumbler of quality bourbon and raise a glass to Colonel Charles Beckwith; saying simply "Finally Charlie, some payback for you and your men."

Eagleclaw was a real shit show. But lessons came out of this. The creation of the 160th SOAR (SPECIAL OPERATIONS AVIATION REGIMENT). the only helicopter unit in the world solely dedicated to ferry and extract special ops operators out the danger zone. The creation of SFOD-D (SPECIAL FORCES OPERATIONAL DETACTHMENT-DELTA) AKA DELTA FORCE. A unit modeled from the British SAS.
"Peanuts" was a well known micro manager who was trained by Hyman Rickover's Nuclear Navy and carried this trait into the White House.
As a long time resident of Carter's home state of Georgia and was here when Carter was Governor it has become apparent that his greatest accomplishment as President was ensuring the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980...
@@black10872 The Goldwater-Nichols reforms which created Special Operations Command was a direct result of the fiasco at Desert One.
About 20 years ago I had the privilege of meeting the Lockheed test co pilot who flew on the failed attempted landing. He had a full version of the crash video which showed him exiting the right front window of the plane after it came to rest.
One of the other aircraft was put on display at the Robins AFB museum, as was shown in your video. I do not know whether it is still there....

@@AlanToon-fy4hg Ahh! My bad. Should have figured that out, as I once did a deep dive on the MH-53E variant with 3 engines to help a friend promote their use for clearing land mines instead of water mines. Doh!
