I like that they made Bumi somewhat bitter from the war, it made sense, but he’s still silly and likes to teach lessons through games
I don't mind it either, but in execution I think they messed up. They shouldn't have had Aang recognize it as Bumi so quickly, as it did lower the stakes of the situation Aang was in for the audience (especially since Katara and Sokka as hostages are missing) as though he's in any danger after the guard saying as though he wasn't the lucky one after Iroh was being taken. What they should have done is keep the additional tests (essentially they would be the ones for Bumi to make sure that it's Aang and not just any other air nomad that somehow managed to miraculously survived) and upon the initial set of tests Bumi should have had a smile that it was old friend in realization that he is alive and wasn't killed along with the rest of the air nomads, however after some time to process it his mind could have had for his expression turn to that of anger (a display of ranging emotions in few seconds happiness -> grief-> disappointment-> anger) that after all this time his "friend" has the gall NOW to finally shows himself and that is when he conducts the final test for their fight especially for when Aang has make the choice to save the earth king as he doesn't yet know it's Bumi and he would still want to save him as this would also demonstrate to the audience that Aang cares even about those he doesn't know and going into how his culture views all life as sacred even to those that would commit suicide without any care for their own well-being to get the audience to like his positive attributes. The other reason for why the animated show did the identity timing right was that it was to lessen Bumi's brutal lesson on Aang upon realizing it was his friend.
@@SonicLegends I agree that they probably could’ve waited to reveal the king was Bumi
Iroh is different yes, but i believe this is a better version, more realistic, will always love Iroh he my fav character, but yeah
18:11 Leaves from the vine…
29:21 in Aang's case, I think it's the dialogue. It's hard to make the line, "That's how I'm going to save the world: with my friends,," sound good. A lot of his lines are fairly cheesy and because of that it sometimes makes the lines come out forced or just cringe. I don't blame Gordon Cormier. He watched the show 26 times in preparation for the role.
This episode had some great Iroh momments
Blindwave, did you dirty dawg. Old fans still miss you, Shane. The new stuff is too one-sided with opinions.
i AM 100% SOLD on bumi the moment he said "hello aang" just amazing
😂 "Secret Tunnel" Hot damn Tom is in it now! Gowd I love this show🌊🌎💨🔥🍵☯️🤘
Leaveeeesss frommmm the vineeeee
Secret tunneeeel🎶🎶
Paul is not Mako, so I think their takes on Iroh are very different. And really, though I know it doesn't sit well some fans, I think it would be disrespectful to try and just emulate Mako and instead just come off as a caricature. Paul's performance took a few episodes to grow on me, but this episode in particular is really what sold me on it. I get what he's doing, what the angle is, how sincere he is when he drops the "act." It's not everyone's cup of tea (eh? eh?), but I certainly can't fault the man when I was sobbing my eyes out through those flashbacks and seriously needed a minute to recover after. And good lord, the music. Did not help.
Iroh and Zuko's relationship alone sold me on giving the live action a mostly positive rating. Yes, there are plenty of flaws, clunky writing, pacing issues. I'm going to give the younger actors a pass because they are in fact just kids and really I think the fault is mostly in the writing room. They do great with what they have, and now that we have 2 more seasons confirmed, I think they are set up beautifully to build on their chemistry and hopefully iron out some of the not-so-great things. I remain in good faith that is what will happen. ❤
Season 2 & 3 announced today on Netflix official site so It would seem they will probably do the entire series. Hoepfully we get to watch more of your commentary as the series progresses.
Oh damn, that’s great! We really enjoyed the first season. Looking forward to seeing some of those epic events and meeting epic characters from the later seasons
I thought this was blind wave
